Natural seaweed beds and habitat environments were investigated using quantitative and qualitative methods from May to December 2015 at 3 sites in Gangneung, Uljin, and Busan along the eastern coast of Korea. In total, 9 green, 23 brown, and 64 red algal taxa were identified. The biomass of the seaweed at Gangneung was 173.2 to $613.8wet\;wt.g/m^2$ of Dictyota divaricata, 360.8 to $520.4wet\;wt.g/m^2$ of Symphyocladia linearis, and 25.9 to $470.8wet\;wt.g/m^2$ of Undaria pinnatifida. At Uljin, these numbers were 5.5 to $256.2wet\;wt.g/m^2$ of Plocamium telfarirae and 46.8 to $241.5wet\;wt.g/m^2$ of Agarum clathratum. The biomass of Sargassum coreanum and Ecklonia cava were 388.1 to $6,972.4wet\;wt.g/m^2$ and 194.9 to $958.5wet\;wt.g/m^2$, respectively, at Busan. S. coreanum and E. cava showed higher biomass compared to other seaweed at Busan. The biomass rate represented an average of 19.2 percent of the total population, ranging from 0.0 to 55.5 percent in Gangneung. In Uljin, the average was calculated as 63.8 percent, and this figure was 48.5 percent in Busan. The percentage of barren ground averaged 46.7 percent in Gangneung and 91.1 percent in Uljin. Uljin showed the highest percentage of barren ground compared to other regions. Sea urchin density appeared to be $6.0ind./m^2$ in Gangneung, $7.0ind./m^2$ in Uljin, and $2.0ind./m^2$ in Busan, with the lowest sea urchin density being that of Busan. In conclusion, the composition of species, appearance ratio, and abundance of vegetation found were similar to previous studies, but it is thought that continuous monitoring is needed due to concerns about physical and chemical pollution caused by global warming, climate change, and coastal development.
A population-based study of people aged above 20 years showed that 32% had emmetropia and 68% had ammetropia(myopia 56.6%. hyperopia 11.4%) city in Korea. The percentage of ammetropia in population based study is higher than that of clinic(O.P.D.) based. A 83.3% of the ammetropia had myopia. which is higher than 76.3% of 1968 and 76.9% of 1975 years. A 16.7% of the ammetropia had hyperopia. which is lower than 19.4% of 1968 and 17.3% of 1975 years. In the kind of refractive error. 32.1% of 985 eyes examined had compound myopic astigmatism. 18.2% had simple myopic astigmatism. 14.2% had simple myopia. 6.8% had simple hyperopic astigmatism, 5.0% had mixed astigmatism, 4.7% had compound hyperopic astigmatism and 3.6% had simple hyperopia. In the difference of binocular refractive error, 29% had 0.50~2.00 Dptr difference and 3.6% had difference above 2.00 Dptr. In age related myopic refractive error, 76.7% of people aged 20~29 years and 74.0% of 30~39 years had myopia. It is due to overstudy for entrance into a university that the percentage of myopia is higher than that of abroad. In age related hyperopic refractive error, 2.9% of people aged 20~29 years, 0.6% of 30~39 years. 6.3% of 40~49 years, 16.0% of 50~59 years and 63.9% of 60~69 years had hyperopia. It shows that the age related hyperopic refractive error was significantly increased at aged 40~49 years. The right eye had more myopic refractive error than left eye.

Purpose : We have performed this study to obtain reference data for the distribution of chromosomal aberrations in Korea. Methods : We analyzed 1,180 chromosomal study cases from Kwang ju Christian Hospital during the past 25 years. 756 cases suspected of characteristic chromosomal aberration syndromes and 424 cases with hermaphroditism, mild sexual abnormalities, multiple anomalies, or mental & growth retardation were included. Results : The male to female ratio of autosomal aberration syndromes was 1.2 : 1. 78.6% of autosomal aberrations were diagnosed under 1 year of age, whereas 89.8% of sex chromosomal aberrations were diagnosed over 12 years of age. Among 1,180 cases, 612 ones had chromosomal aberrations(51.9%) : 590 of 756 cases suspected of chromosomal aberration syndromes had aberrations( 78.0%), whereas 22 of 424 showing the above other features had aberrations(5.2%). Autosomal aberrations appeared in 514 cases(83.8%) and sex chromosomal aberrations appeared in 98 cases(16.2%). The most frequently observed abberation in autosomal aberrations was Down syndrome, followed by E, D, B, A and C group aberrations. The most common abberation in sex chromosomal aberrations was Turner syndrome, followed by Klinefelter syndrome and Fragile X syndrome. Conclusion : It is of vital importance that patients suspected of chromosomal aberrations undergo chromosomal analysis. Further advanced chromosomal staining and molecular genetic methods will raise the detection rate of chromosomal aberrations.
SJ-200 is an oral liquid preparation of acetaminophen, ibuprofen, Dl-methyleph edrine HCl, caffeine, chlorpheniramine maleate, guaifenesin and dextromethorphan HBr, which is indicated when there is a need to improve various cold symptoms such as headache, sore throat, fever, or cough etc. Thirty patients was enroled for this study fro June to July, 1991. They were given one bottle (30 ml) of SJ-200 t.i.d dy P.O for an average of one to seven days. 1) Twenty-eight patients (84.8%) were relieved from the symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection. 2) Side effects with this preparation occured in 8 patients924.2%) but in four patients, they were mild, which wee transienty by the discontinuation f the medication.
It was undertake to investigate the factors involved in the micro thrombus formation in the plasma from the patients with cerebrovascular disease(CVD) and the in vitro actions of sodium nitroprusside on the platelet aggregate formation. 1) The microthrombus formation in the plasma from CVD was significantly enhanced, in comparison with that from the healthy volunteers. 2) Both lipid peroxide and cathepsin D in the plasma from CVD were higher than those levels from the healthy volunteers. 3) Whereas the platelets from healthy individuals showed less aggregation activity in response to ADP in the second phase those from CVD revealed the enhanced aggregating response to ADP. 4) When the bovine basilar artery, rabbit aorta and human umbilical artery were pretreated with $K^+-free$ PSS, ouabain, 13-hydroperoxylinoleic acid(13-HPLA) and cadmium they markedly enhanced the platelet aggregability respectively. 5) Platelet aggregation induced by $K^+-free$ PSS-treated bovine basilar artery was decreased by sodium nitroprusside in a dose-dependent manner, but not by either hydralazine. 6) Both dibutyryl cyclic AMP and 8-bromo cyclic GMP had the inhibitory action on the platelet aggregation. However, the latter had more prominent action than former. The antiaggregating effect by sodium nitroprusside was antagonized by pretreatment with methylene blue, but not by hemoglobin. These results provide the evidences for the therapeutic use of sodium nitroprusside in the emergency of cerebrovascular disease and in remains the further study of the clinical therapy with it.
This study estimated the re!ation between psychological stress and stress hormones, nut tritional status of patients with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus(NIDDM). Psychol logical stress such as depr'ession and anxiety in 34 diabetics was analyzedin relation to nutrient intake, blood components such as fasting blood sugar(FBS), hemoglobin AIC, stress hormones a and amino acids. The IeveIs of depression and anxiety were measured by The center for epi idemiological studies-depc$pm$111.49pg/ml for total catecholamine ( (norepmephrine and epinephrine) and 233.95 $pm$73.99pg/ml for norepinephrine, 94.03$pm$75. 9 97pg/ml for epinephrine, 13.lS$pm$5.55pl/dl for cortisol and 171.50$pm$62.50pg/ml for gul c cagon respectlveIy. The leveIs of stress hormones in diabetics such as total catecholamine, norepi mephrine cortisol and glucagon were significantly higher than those in normal control. The level of epmephrine was higher in diabetics but the diffierenee was not significant. The calorie m t take in diabetics was 1762$pm$292keal which is S1.4% lower than Korean recommended dietary a allowances(RDA). Calcium intake was slightly low but other nutrients intakeswere higher than R RDA. The value of fasting blood sugar(FBS), usual fasting blood sugar(usual FBS) which refteet a average FBS during 3 months and hemoglobin Al C in diabetics was 1S4.1S$pm$74.22mg/dl, 177.76$pm$42.77mg/dl and S.S4$pm$2.S2% respec디VeIy. The distribution of plasma amino acids in d diabetics was generally in the normal range. The leveI of anxiety in diabetics was positively correlated with norepinephrine, concentration and usual FBS. The levels of glucagon, usual FBS a and hemoglobin Aj C were pOSI디veIy correlated with the branched chaimamino acid(BCM : leucme, isoleucme and valine)
Research situation and recent research activities of the RDA of Korea were reviewed and summarized for rice nurserybed. Sixty five percent of total 784 weed research items were carried out as rice research while only 6 percent was belonged to nurserybed within rice research. The floristic composition based on the degree of dominance significantly affected by herbicide properties, type of nurserybed and seeding itself. Herbicidal phytotoxicity of currently used several herbicides was greatly dependent upon the covering, absorption, germination, and irrigation regimes. The new safening agent "CGA 123 407" (4,6-dichloro-2-phenyl-pyrimidine) permited the safe application of pretilachlor (2-chloro-2',6-diethyl-N-(2-propoxyethyl) acetanilide) as a pre-emergence herbicide without reducing herbicidal efficacy. Several new herbicides, pyrazolate (4-(2,4-dichlorobenzoyl)-1,3-dimethylpyrazol-5-yl-p-toluenesulphonate), SL-49 (1,3-dimethyl-4-(2,4-dichlorobenzoyl)-5-phenacyloxy-pyrazole) MY-93 (S(1-methyl-1-phenethyl)-piperidine-1-carbathioate) and DPX-84 ((methyl 2- ((4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl) amino-carbonyl) aminosulfonylmethyl)) benzolate)) performed satisfactorily in terms of safety and herbicidal efficacy for both surface covered and surface pressed nurserybed after herbicide application and thus expected very significant contributions not only for all kind of nurserybeds but also for direct seeding.

Every plant in $990m^2$ onion field was inspected for damages by the onion maggot. Maps were constructed every ten days to show which plants were infested and which were not from April 11 to May 21, 1984. The maps were sectioned into squares one of which contains 80 onion plants and the counts of damaged onions in each square were fitted to poisson and negative binomial distribution and tested by chi-square. We argue that the satisfactory fitness of the expected negative binomial $[P(x^2)>0.05]$ provided a useful description of the spatial distribution patterns of the damaged onions. Edge effect was tested by the differences of damage ratio and variance/mean ratio (${\sigma}^2/m$) between edge and center part. The result showed that the damage ratioes and variances of all the periods, ${\sigma}^2/m$ values after May 1 were greater in edge part than in center part. Again, the maps were sectioned into four blocks and the squares (sample units) were sectioned into quadrants. By application of the variance component technique, it was suggested that $2{\sim}8$ sample units for 5% sampling error and $1{\sim}2$ sample units for 10% error should be sampled randomly to estimate the damage ratio when $2{\sim}3$ quadrants were inspected.
Characteristics of particle holdup and heat transfer were investigated in a liquid-particle swirling fluidized bed whose diameter was 0.102 m and 2.5 m in height. Effects of liquid velocity, particle size and swirling liquid ratio($R_s$) on the particle holdup and immersed heater-to-bed overall heat transfer coefficient were examined. The particle holdup increased with increasing particle size and swirling liquid ratio but decreased with increasing liquid velocity. The local particle holdup was relatively high in the region near the heater when the $R_s$ value was 0.1~0.3, but the radial particle holdup was almost uniform when the $R_s$ value was 0.5, whereas, when the $R_s$ value was 0.7, the local particle holdup was relatively low in the region near the heater. The heat transfer characteristics between the immersed heater and the bed was well analyzed by means of phase space portraits and Kolmogorov entropy(K) of the time series of temperature difference fluctuations. The phase space portraits of temperature difference fluctuations became stable and periodic and the value of Kolmogorov entropy tended to decrease with increasing the value of $R_s$ from 0.1 to 0.5. The Kolmogorov entropy exhibited its maximum value with increasing liquid velocity. The value of overall heat transfer coefficient(h) showed its maximum value with the variation of liquid velocity, bed porosity or swirling liquid ratio, but it increased with increasing particle size. The value of K exhibited its maximum at the liquid velocity at which the h value attained its maximum. The particle holdup and overall heat transfer coefficient were well correlated in terms of dimensionless groups of operating variables.
Background : The antigen-specific receptor on the surface of most peripheral T lymphocytes is a disulfide-linked heterodimer composed of $\alpha$ and $\gamma$ subunits, noncovalently associated with CD3 polypeptides. Recently, a novel type of CD3-associated heterodimer was described on a T cell subset that does not express CD4 or CD8 molecules. This second type of TCR dimer is composed of chains encoded for by the $\gamma$- and $\delta$-TCR genes. These cells may exert both cytotoxic and lymphokine producing functions. Although it was reported that some ${\gamma}{\delta}$-TCR might recognize an MHC-linked determinant, the funεtion or physiologic ligand for this new receptor is not yet clear. It was found that ${\gamma}{\delta}$-TCR can react with 65 kD heat shock protein of M. tuberculosis, which suggests the possible protective role of ${\gamma}{\delta}$ T lymphocytes against tuberculosis. In our previous study, there was neither the increase in number nor the functional activation of ${\gamma}{\delta}$ T cells in the peripheral blood from patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Now we report the distribution of ${\gamma}{\delta}$ T cells in the regional sites of M. tuberculosis infection, especial1y tuberculous lymphadenitis. Methods : Lymph nodes from patients with pathologically-proven tuberculous lymphadenopathy (n=5) and reactive hyperplasia (n=3) were used. Tissues were frozen in liquid nitrogen immediately after removal and stored below $-70^{\circ}C$. The cryostat sections of these frozen specimens were stained with anti-Leu-4 Ab, Identi-T TCR ${\delta}1$, and Identi-T ${\beta}F1$. The number of positively stained cells were counted at high power field. Results : The infiltration of ${\gamma}{\delta}$ T cells was significantly higher in the lymph nodes from patients with tuberculous lymphadenopathy than that with reactive hyperplasia ($16.3{\pm}10.3%$ vs. $1.7{\pm}1.5%$). Conclusion : These results suggest that ${\gamma}{\delta}$) T cells may play a role in the defense against M. tuberculosis infection, especially in the regional sites of infection.
