  • Maximum power point tracking(MPPT) techniques are used in photovoltaic systems to maximize the PV array output power by tracking continuously the maximum power point which depends on panels temperature and on irradiance conditions. This paper proposes a variable step size MPPT algorithm which can improve the MPPT speed and accuracy. Depending on insolation and temperature, the MPPT controller gives optimized step size. The effectiveness of the proposed system is verified thorough PSIM simulation and experiments on a 50[W] prototype. The experimental results confirm that the PV power of the improved P&O method is higher than that of the traditional P&O method.

  • As the maximum power operating point(MPOP) of photovoltaic(PV) power generation systems changes with changing atmospheric conditions such as solar radiation and temperature, an important consideration in the design of efficient PV system is to track the MPOP correctly. Many maximum power point tracking(MPPT) techniques have been considered in the past, however, techniques using microprocessors with appropriate MPPT algorithms are favored because of their flexibility and compatibility with different PV arrays. Although the efficiency of these MPPT algorithms is usually high, it drops noticeably in case of rapidly changing atmospheric conditions. This paper proposed a new MPPT algorithm based on perturb & observe(P&O) algorithm with experiment. The results shows that the new P&O algorithm has successfully tracked the MPOP, even in case of rapidly changing atmospheric conditions, and has higher efficiency than ordinary algorithms.

  • Renewable energy is promoted massively to overcome problems that fossil fuel power plants generate. One popular renewable energy type that offers easy installation is a photovoltaic (PV) system. However, the energy harvested through a PV system is not optimal because influenced by exposure to solar irradiance in the PV module, which is constantly changing caused by weather. The maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique was developed to maximize the energy potential harvested from the PV system. This paper presents the MPPT technique, which is operated on a new high-gain voltage DC/DC converter that has never been tested before for the MPPT technique in PV systems. Fuzzy logic (FL) was used to operate the MPPT technique on the converter. Conventional and adaptive perturb and observe (P&O) techniques based on variables step size were also used to operate the MPPT. The performance generated by the FL algorithm outperformed conventional and variable step-size P&O. It is evident that the oscillation caused by the FL algorithm is more petite than variables step-size and conventional P&O. Furthermore, FL's tracking speed algorithm for tracking MPP is twice as fast as conventional P&O.

  • Maximum power point tracking(MPPT) is usually used for a solar power system. Many maximum power tracking techniques have been considered in the past. The microprocessors with appropriate MPPT algorithms are favored because of their flexibility and compatibility with different solar arrays. In this paper, four MPPT algorithms are analyzed and studied. Perturbation and Observation(P&O), Incremental Conductance(IncCond), which are used from the past. Improved P&O and Two-mode , which are developed P&O and IncCond algorithms. Also, the author introduces grid-connected fransformerless PV PCS to apply MPPT control. MPPT efficiency is measured by changing irradiance from $0.1kW/m^2\;to\;1kW/m^2$ and simulation was performed for each MPPT algorithm.

  • Solar photovoltaic (PV) system shows a non-linear current (I) -voltage (V) characteristics, which depends on the surrounding environment factors, such as irradiance, temperature, and the wind. Solar PV system, with current (I) - voltage (V) and power (P) - Voltage (V) characteristics, specifies a unique operating point at where the possible maximum power point (MPP) is delivered. At the MPP, the PV array operates at maximum power efficiency. In order to continuously harvest maximum power at any point of time from solar PV modules, a good MPPT algorithms need to be employed. Currently, due to its simplicity and easy implementation, Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithms are the most commonly used MPPT control method in the PV systems but it has a drawback at suddenly varying environment situations, due to constant step size. In this paper, to overcome the difficulties of the fast changing environment and suddenly changing the power of PV array due to constant step size in the P&O algorithm, least mean Square (LMS) methods is proposed together with P&O MPPT algorithm which is superior to traditional P&O MPPT. PV output power is predicted using LMS method to improve the tracking speed and deduce the possibility of misjudgment of increasing and decreasing the PV output. Simulation results shows that the proposed MPPT technique can track the MPP accurately as well as its dynamic response is very fast in response to the change of environmental parameters in comparison with the conventional P&O MPPT algorithm, and improves system performance.

In this paper, the controller of the stand-alone PV system applicable to various fields are designed. The improved P&O MPPT and traditional P&O MPPT method was applied. This improved algorithm consists of a constant perturbation with an step control which will make easier the controller PV power data acquisition process. This strategy of control has, in first time, been validated by PSIM simulations. After, been field test. The experimental results show that the improved P&O method increased the PV output power compare to traditional P&O method.

  • This study compares the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control methods of a thermoelectric generator on vehicles. The researchers conduct comparisons on five different MPPT methods, including a fractional open circuit voltage method, a perturbation and observation (P&O) method, an incremental conductance method, a linear extrapolation-based MPPT (LEMPPT) method, and a LEMPPT/P&O hybrid method. These five MPPT methods are theoretically analyzed in detail, and the comparisons are conducted through MATLAB/Simulink simulation results. The comparison outcomes reveal that linear MPPT methods, including LEMPPT and LEMPPT/P&O hybrid methods, are more suitable for a thermoelectric generator on vehicles than the other MPPT methods examined in this work.

  • Solar power generation systems require maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control to acquire maximum power using inefficient and high-cost PV modules. Most conventional MPPT algorithms are based on the slope-tracking concept. The perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm is a typical slope-tracking method. The two factors that determine the MPPT performance of P&O algorithm are the MPPT control period and the magnitude of the perturbation voltage. The MPPT controller quickly moves to the new maximum power point at insolation change when the perturbation voltage is set to large, and the error of output power will be huge in the steady state even when insolation is not changing. The dynamics of the MPPT controller can be accelerated even though the perturbation voltage is set to small when the MPPT control period is set to short. However, too short MPPT control period does not improve MPPT performance but consumes the MPPT controller resources. Therefore, analyzing the performance of the MPPT controller is necessary for actual insolation conditions in real weather environment to determine the optimum MPPT control period and the magnitude of the perturbation voltage. This study proposes an optimum MPPT control period that maximizes MPPT efficiency by measuring and analyzing actual insolation profiles in typical clear and cloudy weather in central Korea.

  • The power generation of a PV system changes according to the weather variables, such as solar radiation and temperature. In particular, the output characteristics of photovoltaic systems, which are sensitive to changes in solar radiation, can be produced effectively and reliably in various weather conditions through MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) control. This paper proposes a fuzzy-based MPPT control method to improve the efficiency and stability of the power production from a solar system. To verify the performance of the proposed method, under the same weather environment, the efficiency and stability of the newly proposed fuzzy logic were compared and evaluated empirically with P&O (Perturb and Observe), a representative algorithm of MPPT control. Furthermore, the circuits designed to improve the reliability and reliability of the hardware were manufactured from Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) to conduct experiments. Based on the results of the experiment during a certain period, the fuzzy-based MPPT proposed in this paper improved the efficiency by more than 4.4% compared to the MPPT based on the existing P&O algorithm and decreased the fluctuation width by more than 39.7% at the maximum power point.
