Ozone Production Characteristics of the DBD Discharge the Electrode Shape at the Same Electrode surface area (동일한 전극 표면적에서 DBD방전형 내부전극 형상에 따른 오존생성특성 연구)

  • The dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) has low efficiency due to about 70% input power is consumed as thermal energy in the discharge space. However, because of the usage of DBD ozone generator is easier than other methods. The DBD ozone generator has been widely applied for high concentration ozone generation in the industrial application. But, the low-capacity compact DBD ozone generator is not applied so far. Therefore, the DBD ozone generator is necessary to improve ozone production efficiency and reduce the capacity. In this paper, the stainless steel pipe inner electrode was designed with hall type and screw type to improve the ozone production yield. The manufactured two inner electrodes were experimented with normal type for comparison of the discharge characteristics and the ozone generating characteristics. As the experimental results, the discharge current effective value of designed inner electrodes with hall type and screw type are higher than the normal type, due to unequal electric field is formed at the boundary. However, the difference of designed and original electrodes is less than 0.1mA that has no effect on the discharge characteristic. On the other hand, the screw type inner electrode increased higher than original model about 7 times when the flow rate of the oxygen source gas was increased from $0.6{\ell}/min$ to $1.0{\ell}/min$ The reason was assumed by the flow rate of the raw gas through the inner electrode was became fast that has a cooling effect. The designed hall type and screw type inner electrodes have shown good performances in ozone generation and ozone production that better than normal type in the same electrode surface area.

  • This paper describes ozone concenteration($O_{3con}$), ozone generation($O_{3g}$) and ozone yield($O_{3Y}$) of lamp type ozonizer which be performed a role of lighting source and ozonizer. OLamp is consist of two of low pressure mercury lamps. The important conclusions obtained from this paper are as follows, The more quality of supplied gas(Q) decrease, the higher $O_{3con}$ rise. The more quality of supplied gas(Q) increase, the higher $O_{3g}$ some rise. When supplied oxygen 10[l/min] obtained 4,010[mg/kwh] $O_{3Y}$. The Echerichia coli which is reacted on ozone can be sterilized about 95[%].

  • In this paper, complex discharge type ozonizer with a screw type electrode has been designed and manufactured for environmental improvement using low power and high efficency ozoniazer. The complex discharge type ozonizer is equipped with three electrodes{central electrode(CE), internal electrode(IE) and external electrode(EE)}. Ozone of the complex discharge type ozonizer is generated by superposition of silent discharge and surface discharge in discharge space as a screw type CE and IE are respectively applied to AC high voltage of inverse-polarity has $180[^{\circ}]$ phase difference, EE is common electrode. In this time, when oxygen has been used as supplied gas, the maximum values of ozone concentration, ozone generation and ozone yield were obtained as 8,334[ppm], 3,249[mg/h] and 65.3[g/kwh].

  • Recently the ozone generation system is well used for cleaning the contaminated water by using the strong oxidization effects. Accordingly, with the purpose of improving ozone yield at the peak of ozone concentration, this paper describes the stracture and characteristics of ozonizer, and focused on the development of a 3E-3G discharge tube.

  • Ozone is one of the most significant atmospheric constituents controlling the intensity of solar UV-B irradiance (280 to 320nm), and the decrease of the total ozone amount supported by ozonesondes and spectrometers will result in the increase of UV-B irradiance at the earth's surface. For example, 1% decrease in stratospheric ozone is expected to yield a 2-3% increase in UV-B irradiance and in the incidence of skin cancer. (omitted)

  • The ozone generation characteristics are reported for a sawtooth disk to cylinger geometry using positive and negative pulse corona. A series of parametric studies was carried out to obtain optimum values for the pulse repetition frequency as well as the shape and dimensions of the discharge disk and the discharge spacing. Two types of ozonizers were studied: the single disk and the multi-disk. The results of the single disk ozonizer showed that positive corona produced a singificantly higher ozone yield than negative(7ppm/peak watt or 3.5 times larger). However the negative corona produced a much more controllable output which enabled the ozone generation to be directly controlled by adjusting the value of the peak pulse voltage. This results showed that the single disk ozonizer is ideally suited for applications requiring very small controlled quantities of ozone whereas the multi-disk unit can be designed to provide varying outputs depending upon the number of disk electrodes used.

  • In this Paper, the ozonizer is fabricated by piling plate-type electrodes up to minimize and reduce install space. Hereby ozone generation characteristics of piled plate-type ozonizer were investigated. Inverse-polarity voltage was generated by H.V neon transformer. And 2 H.V neon transformers were used to supply high voltage each 9 electrodes of plate-type ozonizer. According to the experiments, ozone concentration, generation and yield were proportionally increased tilth increasing the number of electrode. And the maximum increase effects of 246%, 245%, and 33% were obtained when the number of electrode were increased from 3 up to 9.

  • In this paper, an ozonizer, which can generate individual and superposed silent discharge, using three-phase voltage has been designed and manufactured. The ozonizer consists of 3 electrodes(Central Electrode, Internal Electrode and External Electrode) and 2 gaps(gap between Central Electrode and Internal Electrode, gap between Internal Electrode and External Electrode). Ozone is generated according to voltage supplying method to each electrode by individual silent discharge and three-phase superposed discharge. The characteristics of ozone generation were investigated with variation of discharge power and the quantity of supplied gas($O_2$). In case of individual silent discharge, the maximum values of ozone concentration, ozone generation and ozone yield were obtained between internal electrode and external electrode, and its values were 2300[ppm], 570[mg/h] and 745[g/kWh] respectively. Each maximum values was 5039[ppm], 1773[mg/h] and 851[g/kWh] respectively, when three-phase superposed silent discharge was employed. Therefore, characteristics of ozone generation with three-phase voltage are improved compared with single-phase voltage because silent discharge is generated continuously.

  • In this paper, fluorescent discharge type ozonizer has been designed and manufactured. Ozone discharge and generation characteristics have been investigated in accordance with a sort of internal electrodes, output voltage of power supply, air flow rate and discharge power. Air has been used as the supplied gas of the ozonizer In this paper, when disuse fluorescent lamp was used as an internal electrode. Air flow rate was varied from 2[1/min] to 10[1/min]. The maximum ozone concentration and yield were 3495[ppm] and 23.4[g/kWh] respectively at 2[1/min] air flow rate and 35.2[W] input power. Illumination was appeared as 5[lx] within 15[cm] from external electrode. Whorl fluorescent discharge type ozonizer was used, air flow rate was also varied from 2[1/min] to 10[1/min]. At this moment, the maximum ozone concentration and yield were 2824[ppm] and 21.7[g/kWh] respectively at 2[1/min] air flow rate and 30.5[W] input power. Illumination was also appeared as 5[lx] within 15[cm] from external electrode like used fluorescent lamp.

Suitability of Physiological Indicators of Ozone Tolerance among 8 families of Sophora japonica (회화나무 8 가계간 오존 내성 차이에 대한 생리적 지표의 적합성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate ozone sensitivity of physiological indicators and the difference in ozone tolerance of 8 families of Sophora japonica seedlings on the basis of the standardized physiological indicators. After ozone treatment, photosynthetic parameters, photosynthetic pigments and malondialdehyde (MDA) content, and antioxidative enzyme activities were analyzed from the leaves of S. japonica seedlings. Ozone tolerance indices among 8 families were calculated with the standardized physiological parameters. In addition, the reduction of carboxylation efficiency and apparent quantum yield were observed in the leaves of seven families, except for family No. 6 and 7, respectively. The apparent quantum yield varied from -27% to -61% of the control seedlings. Photosynthetic pigment content differed significantly among 8 families, but was not affected significantly by ozone treatment. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity increased from 7% to 64% after ozone exposure, and significant difference existed among 8 families. Ascorbate-peroxidase (APX) activity of 8 families increased by ozone treatment, and the activity of family No. 7 showed the highest increase (218%) in comparison to their respective control plants. On the basis of the standardized indices, family No. 6 showed the lowest tolerance by indicating higher reduction of both photosynthetic parameters and pigment content and lower increase of antioxidative enzyme activities. On the contrary, family No. 7 showed the highest tolerance as indicated by lower reduction of photosynthetic parameters, higher amounts of photosynthetic pigments, and higher enzyme activity.
