산성(酸性)비가 식생(植生)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effect of Acid Rain on Vegetation)

  • In this paper, the current knowledge on the formation of acid rain and its effect on vegetation are reviewed. The pollutants which were emitted into the air are oxidized by photochemical reaction and affect the vegetation by dry and wet deposition. Acid rain at pH 4.0 affected sensitive plants and when it was below pH 3.0, visible symptoms developed in most of the crops. The acid rain treatment at pH 2.0 decreased dry weight, leaf area and chlorophyll contents in soybean but it increased rate of photosynthesis and respiration rate. Rain treatment at pH 2.8 increased ethylene production, but it’s not a suitable indicator of sensitivity to acid rain. At pH 2.0 treatment, the contents of soluble Mn and Al were increased but the cultivated soil pH at upper layer(0-5cm) was significantly decreased. The pertubation of glandular trichome which is existed along the vein was developed at all treatment except the control(pH 6.0) and non-treatment. Histological pertubation of spiked trichome and disintegration of chloroplast were developed only on the leaves of sesame treated with SAR(simulated acid rain) of pH 2.0.

마그네슘합금의 산화저항성에 미치는 산화칼슘 첨가의 영향 (The Effect of Calcium Oxide on Oxidation Resistance of Magnesium alloy)

  • Due to excellent properties such as high specific strength and low density, application of magnesium alloys have been rapidly increased. However, magnesium alloy has a serious problem that is easily oxidized when exposed to high-temperature. For this reason, magnesium alloys have been generally used for SF6 gas such as protective cover gas in casting and melting, but it has been reported that this gas has a serious influence on global warming. Therefore, many researchers have been studied to improve the oxidation resistance of magnesium alloy. It was reported that addition of Be, Ca and CaO in magnesium alloy can improve the oxidation properties. In this study, the possibility of improving the oxidation resistance by adding CaO extracted from oyster shells was investigated. Oyster shells were completely decomposed into CaO and CO2 by annealing. With the addition of CaO, a coexistence region of MgO + CaO was formed in the oxide layer and its thickness was also reduced.

고속 충돌 시 발생하는 평면 충격파를 이용한 산화 나노 분말의 치밀화 및 기계적 특성 평가 (Planar Shock Wave Compaction of Oxidized Copper Nano Powders using High Speed Collision and Its Mechanical Properties)

  • Bulk nanostructured copper was fabricated by a shock compaction method using the planar shock wave generated by a single gas gun system. Nano sized powders, average diameter of 100 nm, were compacted into the capsule and target die, which were designed to eliminate the effect of undesired shock wave, and then impacted with an aluminum alloy target at 400 m/s. Microstructure and mechanical properties of the shock compact specimen were analyzed using an optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and micro indentation. Hardness results showed low values (approximately 45~80 Hv) similar or slightly higher than those of conventional coarse grained commercial purity copper. This result indicates the poor quality of bonding between particles. Images from OM and SEM also confirmed that no strong bonding was achieved between them due to the insufficient energy and surface oxygen layer of the powders.

다공성 실리콘의 산화로부터 얻은 다공성 실리카의 산화에 대한 분석 (Analysis on Oxidation of Porous Silica Obtained from Thermal Oxidation of Porous Silicon)

  • Oxidation behaviors of porous silicon were investigated by the measurement of area of $SiO_2$ vibrational peaks in FT-IR spectra during thermal oxidation of porous silicon at corresponding temperatures. Visible photoluminescent porous silicon samples were obtained from an electrochemical etch of n-type silicon of resistivity between 1-10 ${\Omega}/cm$. The etching solution was prepared by adding an equal volume of pure ethanol to an aqueous solution of HF. The porous silicon was illuminated with a 300 W tungsten lamp for the duration of etch. Etching was carried out as a two-electrode galvanostatic procedure at applied current density of 200 $mA/cm^2$ for 5 min. The porosity of samples prepared was about 80%. After formation of porous silicon, the samples were thermally oxidized at $100^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$, $300^{\circ}C$, and $400^{\circ}C$, respectively. The growth rate of $SiO_2$ layer of porous silicon was investigated by using FT-IR spectroscopy. The effect of oxidation of porous silicon was presented.

  • 본 연구에서는 폴리피를 (PPy)/gold/mylar 형태의 두 겹의 전기활성 구동기를 제작하였으며, 도판트의 종류에 따른 굽힘 구동 특성에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 전도성 고분자는 전기적으로 산화/환원이 될 때에는 도판트의 이동에 의하여 부피 변화를 수반하게 된다. 도판트의 크기에 따라, 서로 다른 구동 특성을 나타내었는데, toluene sulfonate와 같은 작은 크기의 도판트는 산화/환원에 따라 PPy 필름의 내외로 자체 이동이 가능하며, 산화시에 PPy의 팽창이 관찰되었다. 그러나, dodecylbenzenesulfonate와 같은 커다란 도판트가 함유된 PPy는 산화/환원시에는 이들의 이온들은 움직임이 없는 것으로 나타났으며 환원시에 작은 양이온($Na^+$)이 필름내부로 유입되며 부피가 증가하는 현상이 관찰되었다.

PROPERTIES OF ZR ALLOY CLADDING AFTER SIMULATED LOCA OXIDATION AND WATER QUENCHING

  • In order to study the cladding properties of zirconium after a loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA)-simulation oxidation and water quenching test, commercial Zircaloy-4 and two kinds of HANA claddings were oxidized at temperatures ranging from $900^{\circ}C$ to $1250^{\circ}C$ and exposed for 300 s, and then cooled to $700^{\circ}C$ before quenching. Microstructural observations were made to evaluate the matrix characteristics with the chemical compositions after the LOCA-simulation test. Ring compression testing was then performed to compare the ductile behaviour of the HANA and Zircaloy-4 claddings. An X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was carried out for temperatures ranging from room temperature to $1250^{\circ}C$ for the oxide layer to verify the oxide crystal structure at each oxidation temperature.

황동이 피복된 코드의 표면 상태가 배합고무와 코드의 접착에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Surface State of Brass Coated Steel Cord on the Adhesion between Cord and Rubber Compound)

  • $80^{\circ}C$에서 열처리하거나, $80^{\circ}C$와 상대습도 85%인 습도 조건에서 처리한 황동이 피복된 강선 코드의 표면 상태와 고무와 접착 성질을 조사하였다. 열처리로 황동의 산화가 진행되었으며, 습윤처리 후에는 더 심하게 산화되었다. 처리기간이 길어질수록 전처리한 코드의 접착 성질이 나빠졌으며, 고무부착 정도가 심하게 저하되었다. 황동 피복층의 산화로 인한 코드의 접착 성질 저하를 산화아연층의 과도한 성장과 연계지어 설명하였다.

결정 배향에 따른 Si의 열산화 거동 및 전기적 특성 (Thermal Oxidation Behavior and Electrical Characteristics of Silicon depending on the Crystal Orientation)

  • (100) Si and 4$^{\circ}$off (100) Si were oxidized in dry oxygen, and the differences in thermal oxidation behavior and electrical characteristics between two specimens were investigated. Ellipsometer measurements of the oxide thickness produced by oxidation in dry oxygen from 1000 to 120$0^{\circ}C$ showed that the oxidation rates of the 5$^{\circ}$ off (100) Si were more rapid than those of the (100) Si and the differences between them decreased as the oxidation temperature increased. The activation energies based on the parabolic rate constant, B for (100) and 4$^{\circ}$off (100) Si were 25.8, 28.6 kcal/mol and those on the linear rate constant, B/A were 56.8, 54.9 kcal/mol, respectively. Variation of C-V characteristics with the oxidation temperature showed that the flat band voltages were shifted positively and surface state charge densities decreased as the oxidation temperature increased, and the surface state charge density of the 4$^{\circ}$off (100) Si was lower than that of the (100) Si. Also considerable decrease in the density of oxidation induced stacking faults (OSF) for the 4$^{\circ}$off (100) Si was observed through optical microscopy after preferentially etching off the oxide layer.

Study on High-Temperature Oxidation Behaviors of Plasma-Sprayed TiB2-Co Composite Coatings

  • In the present study, $TiB_2-Co$ composite coatings were thermally sprayed onto the surface of a 304 stainless steel substrate using an atmospheric plasma spray (APS). The phase analysis of the powders and plasma-sprayed coatings was performed using X-ray diffractometry analysis. The microstructures of the coatings were studied by a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The average particle size and flowability of the feedstocks were also measured. Both $TiB_2-32Co$ and $TiB_2-45Co$ (wt.%) coatings possessed typical dense lamellar structures and high-quality adhesion to the substrate. The oxidation behaviors of the coatings were studied at $900^{\circ}C$ in an atmospheric environment. In addition, the cross-sectional images of the oxidized coatings were analyzed by SEM. A thin and well-adhered layer was formed on the surface of both $TiB_2-Co$ coatings, confirming satisfactory high-temperature oxidation resistance. The kinetic curves corresponding to the isothermal oxidation of the coatings illustrated a short transient stage from rapid to slow oxidation during the early portion of the oxidation experiment.

Al-합금의 단열섬유판 반응침투에 의한 $Al_2O_3$-세라믹스의 형성 (Formation of $Al_2O_3$-Ceramics by Reactive Infiltration of Al-alloy into Insulation Fiber Board)

  • Al2O3/metal composites were fabricated by oxidation and reaction of molten Al-alloy into two types of commercial Al2O3-SiO2 fibrous insulation board. The growth rate, composition and microstructure of these materials were described. An AlZnMg(7075) alloy was selected as a parent alloy. Mixed polycrystalline fiber and glass phase fiber were used as a filler. The growth surface of an alloy was covered with and without SiO2. SiO2 powder was employed as a surface dopant to aid initial oxidation of Al-alloy. Al-alloy, SiO2, fiber block and growth inhibitor CaSiO3 were packed sequentially in a alumina crucible and oxidized in air at temperature range 90$0^{\circ}C$ to 120$0^{\circ}C$. The growth rate of composite layer was calculated by measuring the mass increasement(g) per unit surface($\textrm{cm}^2$). XRD and optical microscope were used to investigate the composition and phase of composites. The composite grown at 120$0^{\circ}C$ and with SiO2 dopant showed rapid growth rate. The growth behavior differed a little depending on the types of fiber used. The composites consist of $\alpha$-Al2O3, Al, Si and pore. The composite grown at 100$0^{\circ}C$ exhibited better microstructure compared to that grown at 120$0^{\circ}C$.
