Characteristics of Abrasive Water Jet Milled Surface by Overlap Cutting (중첩가공에 의한 워터젯 밀링의 가공면 특성)

  • Overlap cutting is a fundamental method of applying abrasive water jet (AWJ) machining to milling to produce a wider surface because the nozzle outlet is approximately 1.0 mm wide. In this study, the effects of overlap cutting on the depth profile and surface roughness are investigated. The overlapping area depends on the amount of step over, which is controlled in the pick-feed direction. If the step over is equal to or larger than the diameter of the nozzle, no overlap cut occurs but large cusps remain between the cut paths. A step over as small as one-thirds of the nozzle diameter may lead to triple-overlap cutting resulting in an extraordinary depth. By using pocket milling experiments with a step over of 0.46 (or 0.47), it is verified that AWJ can produce a milled surface of titanium, one of the hard-to-cut materials, with $76{\mu}m$ Ra.

Experimental Investigation for Ablation Characteristics of Polyimide Layer and Cu-metal Layer using High Power Nd:YAG UV Laser (고출력 Nd:YAG UV레이저를 이용한 polyimide층과 Cu-metal층의 가공상태에 대한 실험적 고찰)

  • In this paper, the laser cutting characteristics of the flexible PCB using high power Nd:YAG UV laser were investigated. A specific FPCB model was selected for the experiment. Test sheets were made, which had equal materials and layer structure to those of the outline (OL) region and the contact pad (CP) region in the FPCB. The experiment is made up of two stages. In the first stage of the experiment, the laser cutting fluence was found, which is the threshold fluence to cut the test sheets completely. The laser cutting fluence of the OL sheet is $1781.26{\sim}1970.16\;J/cm^2$ and that of the CP sheet is $2109.34{\sim}2134.34\;J/cm^2$. In the second stage, cutting performance and its qualities were analyzed by the experiment. The laser cutting performance remained almost unchanged for all laser and process parameter sets. The average cutting width (top side/bottom side) of the OL sheet was $40.45\;{\mu}m/11.52\;{\mu}m$ and that of the CP sheet was $22.14\;{\mu}m/10.93\;{\mu}m$. However, the laser cutting qualities were different according to the parameters. The adjacent region of the cutting line on the OL sheet was carbonized as the beam speed was low and the overlap coefficient was high. The surface quality around the cutting line of the CP sheet was about the same. Carbonization and debris occurred on the surface of the cutting line. As a result of the experiment, the cutting qualities were better as the overlap coefficient was made low and beam speed high. Therefore, the overlap coefficient 2 or 3 is proper for the FPCB laser cutting.

  • High speed and heavy cutting performed for improving the surface quality and productivity, are often prevented due to chatter phenomena. Chatter is a violent relative vibration between workpiece and tool in machining of metals, and is an important limiting factor of production rate and surface quality, and reduces the tool life and the dynamic performance of machine tool itself. In this study, in order to suppress the chatter, a modified tool-post combined with the spring and damper was designed and used in the actual cutting test. The results of this study are summerized as follows; The spring and damper adopted in the modified tool-post have the suppressing effects of chatter, and there exists an optimum combination between spring constant and damping ratio.

  • A heat and room temperature construction method of asphalt have been mainly applying to rooftop waterproofing in concrete structure, and the rest construction method are sheet, membrane and mortar waterproofing construction method. In particular, joint method in sheet waterproof method is as overlap joint which on being reinforced with fiber and tape, have been applying for job site to mechanical fix using protection disk and anchorage and metal ironwork on the end of sheet. These construction method cause cutting off joint of sheet as behavior of structure according to repairs of sheet itself and thermal conduct, outdoor air environment. In conclusion, we analyzed and examined the application of various sheets and piece ashes about superior 'I' joint which divide from one and the other sheet and progressed about joint construction method of fixing method for overlap.

  • In the case of a boring bar, the vibration amplitude is generallylarge due to its high slenderness. The boring bat is then modelled as a cantilever with dynamic force acting at the free end and a generalized model of nonlinear continous system is obtained. The Analysis of model is conducted for the specific case with a zero side cutting edge angle. The dynamic behaviour is investigated for machining processes in which the the overlap factor of regenerative effect is considered. The vibration characteristics of boring bar depth of cut rather than feed rate in given slenderness.

  • A cosmetic manufacturing process requires a mold that is inevitable for mass production. Cosmetic containers are one of major factors affecting the customer's purchase decision. In addition, the manufacturing cost in cosmetic container comprises a large portion of the entire product cost. Therefore, a mold satisfying the economical feasibility, aesthetics and functionality is necessary. Among the cosmetic containers, square shape containers have a tendency of having a short shot defect product. The square shaped cosmetic containers are mostly produced as a side gate shape on the two-plate molds. On the other hand, there are two disadvantages, such as gate trace and post processing requirement. The overlap-gateproposed in this study has the characteristics of intaglio gate cutting and no need for post processing. The delivery system of the overlap gate was simulated and compared with the side gate via Moldflow. The improvement in flow, frozen rate, density, and Air trap was confirmed. Based on the simulation results, the mold and performed injection molding was fabricated. In this study, the possibility of the mass production of high aesthetic and functionality cosmetic containers was verified.

Applying a Tabu Search Approach for Solving the Two-Dimensional Bin Packing Problem (타부서치를 이용한 2차원 직사각 적재문제에 관한 연구)

  • The 2DBPP(Two-Dimensional Bin Packing Problem) is a problem of packing each item into a bin so that no two items overlap and the number of required bins is minimized under the set of rectangular items which may not be rotated and an unlimited number of identical .rectangular bins. The 2DBPP is strongly NP-hard and finds many practical applications in industry. In this paper we discuss a tabu search approach which includes tabu list, intensifying and diversification Strategies. The HNFDH(Hybrid Next Fit Decreasing Height) algorithm is used as an internal algorithm. We find that use of the proper parameter and function such as maximum number of tabu list and space utilization function yields a good solution in a reduced time. We present a tabu search algorithm and its performance through extensive computational experiments.

  • An experimental study of the femtosecond laser machining of Si materials was carried out. Direct laser machining of the materials for the feature size of a few micron scale has the advantage of low cost and simple process comparing to the semiconductor process, E-beam lithography, ECM and other machining process. Further, the femtosecond laser is the better tool to machine the micro parts due to its characteristics of minimizing the heat affected zone(HAZ). As a result of line cutting of Si, the optimal condition had the region of the effective energy of 2mJ/mm-2.5mJ/mm with the power of 0.5mW-1.5mW. The polarization effects of the incident beam existed in the machining qualities, therefore the sample motion should be perpendicular to the projection of the electric vector. We also observed the periodic ripple patterns which come out in condition of the pulse overlap with the threshold energy. Finally, we could machined the groove with the linewidth of below $2{\mu}m$ for the application of MEMS device repairing, scribing and arbitrary patterning.

  • Overlap, excessive wide gaps, and errors between blocks during erection process increases cost and man-hour. In this paper, a system to simulate the assembly process is suggested and a plane block assembly of welding deformation with gravity is simulated in consideration of assembly order, deformations and errors occurring in the cutting and forming processes are not considered and welding deformations are acquired by equivalent stiffness and load method from experiments and hull double bottom plane block is assembled on a assembly order by panel method. It is certified that according to the order of assembly, intermediate product shape affects rigidity which affects welding deformations. Assembly order must be considered in the assembly process. It is certified that the gravity has important role in the assembly process.

  • The purpose of this study is to the processes and quality of local women's apparel production using the stretch fabric and to address the problems related to production in order to provide useful data for producing competitive apparels. The result of the survey can be summarized as follows; 1. Results of surveying the process for raw materials and notions indicated that most of the workers were ignorant of the properties of stretch fabrics. And most factories were stacking the stretch fabrics across improperly, while being aware of the properties of the fabrics through their experiences or in-company test. 2. The major problem involving spreading fabrics was the uneven tension, followed by static electricity, overlap and warp twist. The problems involving the cutting work were melting of the fabric by cutter and difference of size between upper and lower parts. 3. Most of the businesses were not tempering the fabric before and after its linking works due to lack of working space, short delivery time, ignorance and etc. The majority of the sample businesses were operating their cutters at the speed of 3,000 rpm or higher, which suggests a poor technological guidance.
