For the evaluation of acoustic noise of a DLP projector, vibration and sound characteristics of a DLP projector were studied. The acoustic noise of DLP projector could be classified into three categories, that is, the direct noise from a body of rotation, the air-bone noise generated from turbulence or vortex occurred during cooling process and the structural born noise produced by vibrating elements. Cooling fans and color filter wheel which rotates at 9000 rpm are main causes of acoustic noise induced in DLP projector. Since the structure of an optical module in a DLP projector can be excited by the excessive vibration of a color filter wheel, the structural design for anti-vibration should be considered. To make a reduction of overall acoustic noise, the anti-vibration design and the enclosing structure have been studied and applied to a color filter wheel.

Vibration in Engine module could be reduced by introducing a balance shaft module which has one or more unbalanced rotors. Since the unbalanced rotor is installed in an opposite direction of the free force or unbalance moment by engine component, the unexpected vibration could be decreased kinematically. The essential equation of the unbalanced rotor was Presented for two cases, 3 in-line and 4 in-line cylinder engine type, And the efficiency of the balance shaft is investigated by the vehicle testing that is focused on measuring the reduced vibration level when adapting a balancing module. With the signal processing of measured signals, some important issues on design the balancing shaft could be derived and the overall design process is explained in the final part including the peripheral component, i.e. housing and bush.
The noise level of refrigerating units is becoming more important to the manufacturer and the user of the product. Invariably, the compressor is a significant contributor to the overall noise level. Especially a major portion of the noise radiated by the vibration of the compressor shell. This paper presents an approach to relate the dynamic characteristics of the compressor shell with the noise radiation properties and the methods of redesigning the compressor shell to reduce the noise radiation. To relate the dynamic characteristics of the compressor shell with the noise radiation properties, the vibration and radiated sound were measured with the running compressor. Based on the results of these tests correlations between the shell vibration characteristics and the noise radiation properties are identified It was found that the vibration on the compressor shell and the noise radiated from the compressor were stronglycorrelatedincertainfrequencybands.
The modeling of an active vibration isolation system is accomplished by using the equivalent spring constant, mass and rotational Inertia of each component. The detailed model of the actuation module is successful for describing its frequency-domain performance but also too complicated to implement it to actual system for control so that the order of the model is reduced up to the degree that preserves its characteristic in the low frequency range. The reduced model is suitable for identifying the unknown system parameters such as damping constants of components. The overall isolation system is described by using the reduced model of the actuation module. The accurate model ing and system parameter identification that is essential for the control of the active vibration isolation system is attained successfully.
Since slender structures such as utility poles, radio masts, and chimneys, are essentially statically determinate structures, they often collapse during earthquakes. Although vibration control is the most logical method for improving the earthquake resistance of such structures, there are many practical problems with its implementation due to their very long natural vibration period. This paper proposes a new vibration control device to effectively prevent the collapse of slender structures subjected to strong earthquakes. The device consists of a pendulum, an elastic restraint and a lever, and is designed such that when it is attached to a slender structure, the second vibration mode of the structure corresponds to the first vibration mode of the same structure without the device attached. This is highly effective in causing the transverse motions of the device and the structure to oppose each other and so reduce the overall transverse vibration during an earthquake. In the present paper, the effectiveness of the vibration control device is first evaluated based on laboratory experiments and numerical studies. An example of applying the device to a tall chimney is then simulated. A new dynamic analytical method for slender structures with abrupt rigidity variations is then proposed.
Multiple-step beams carrying intermediate lumped masses with/without rotary inertias are widely used in engineering applications, but in the literature for free vibration analysis of such structural systems; Bernoulli-Euler Beam Theory (BEBT) without axial force effect is used. The literature regarding the free vibration analysis of Bernoulli-Euler single-span beams carrying a number of spring-mass systems, Bernoulli-Euler multiple-step and multi-span beams carrying multiple spring-mass systems and multiple point masses are plenty, but that of Timoshenko multiple-step beams carrying intermediate lumped masses and/or rotary inertias with axial force effect is fewer. The purpose of this paper is to utilize Numerical Assembly Technique (NAT) and Differential Transform Method (DTM) to determine the exact natural frequencies and mode shapes of the axial-loaded Timoshenko multiple-step beam carrying a number of intermediate lumped masses and/or rotary inertias. The model allows analyzing the influence of the shear and axial force effects, intermediate lumped masses and rotary inertias on the free vibration analysis of the multiple-step beams by using Timoshenko Beam Theory (TBT). At first, the coefficient matrices for the intermediate lumped mass with rotary inertia, the step change in cross-section, left-end support and right-end support of the multiple-step Timoshenko beam are derived from the analytical solution. After the derivation of the coefficient matrices, NAT is used to establish the overall coefficient matrix for the whole vibrating system. Finally, equating the overall coefficient matrix to zero one determines the natural frequencies of the vibrating system and substituting the corresponding values of integration constants into the related eigenfunctions one determines the associated mode shapes. After the analytical solution, an efficient and easy mathematical technique called DTM is used to solve the differential equations of the motion. The calculated natural frequencies of Timoshenko multiple-step beam carrying intermediate lumped masses and/or rotary inertias for the different values of axial force are given in tables. The first five mode shapes are presented in graphs. The effects of axial force, intermediate lumped masses and rotary inertias on the free vibration analysis of Timoshenko multiple-step beam are investigated.
Vibration is a source of performance degradation in all optical imaging systems. Performance of high resolution remote sensing payloads is often limited due to satellite platform vibrations. Effects of Linear and high frequency sinusoidal vibrations on the system MTF are known exactly in closed form but the low frequency vibration effects is a random process and must be considered statistically. Usually the vibration MTF budget is defined based on the mission requirements and the overall MTF limitations. For analyzing low frequency effects, designer must know all the systems specifications and parameters. With a good understanding of harmful vibration frequencies and amplitudes in the system preliminary design phase, their effects could be removed totally or partially. This procedure is cost effective and let the designer to eliminate just harmful vibrations and avoids over-designing. In this paper we have analyzed the effects of low-frequency platform vibrations on the payload's modulation transfer function. We have used a statistical analysis to find the probability of imaging with a MTF equal or greater than a pre-defined budget for different missions. The worst and average cases have been discussed and finally we have proposed "look-up figures". Using these look-up figures, designer can choose the electro-optical parameters in such a way that vibration effects be less than its pre-defined budget. Furthermore, using the results, we can propose a damping profile based on which vibration frequencies and amplitudes must be eliminated to stabilize the payload system.
Tooth errors inevitable in the manufacturing process have large effect on the strength/durability and vibration performances of gear drives. We show that the manufacturing errors affect the overall gear performances, especially vibration performance, and propose a robust optimal design method for gear dimension and its tooth flank form that guarantees reliable performances to the variation of manufacturing errors. This method begins with a search of optimal design candidates by using the previously developed gear optimal design method for the strength/durability and vibration performances. Then, the statistical analysis method is applied to find a robust design solution for the vibration performance which is generally very sensitive to the manufacturing variations.
Shell vibrations of the rotary compressor, which account for considerable portion of the noise from compressor, are caused by various sources. Among them is the vibration of the in nor part or cylinder assembly, which undergoes severe compression process and rotational motion. But little researches have been carried out about the behavior and effect of the inner part because of its structural complexity. Furthermore, the shell of the rotary compressor is hermetic type that experimental approach is very difficult. This research studied the structure-born noise of the Rotary compressor using FE an analysis. The comparison between sound pressure spectrum and natural frequencies of the shell vibration implies that shell vibrations contribute significantly to the noise. It is found that inner part vibrations are responsible for those through the FE analysis. Design modification of the inner part, which shifts the target frequencies, reduced overall noise level of the compressor.
