We derive refraction statics for seismic data recorded in a hard rock terrain, in which there are large and rapid variations in the depth of weathering. The statics corrections range from less than 10 ms to more than 70 ms, often over distances as short as 12 receiver intervals. This study is another demonstration of the importance in obtaining accurate initial refraction models of the weathering in hard rock terrains in which automatic residual statics may fail. We show that the statics values computed with a simple model of the weathering using the Generalized Reciprocal Method (GRM) and the Refraction Convolution Section (RCS) are comparable in accuracy to those computed with a more complex model of the weathering, using least-mean-squares inversion with the conjugate gradient algorithm (Taner et al., 1998). The differences in statics values between the GRM model and that of Taner et al. (1998) systematically vary from an average of 2ms to 4ms over a distance of 8.8 km. The differences between these two refraction models and the final statics model, which includes the automatic residual values, are generally less than 5 ms. The residuals for the GRM model are frequently less than those for the model of Taner et al. (1998). The RCS statics are picked approximately 10 ms later, but their relative accuracy is comparable to that of the GRM statics. The residual statics values show a general correlation with the refraction statics values, and they can be reduced in magnitude by using a lower average seismic velocity in the weathering. These results suggest that inaccurate average seismic velocities in the weathered layer may often be a source of short-wavelength statics, rather than any shortcomings with the inversion algorithms in determining averaged delay times from the traveltimes.

This study was carried to find out the soil characteristics of landslide site and to develope landslide prediction method by seismic refraction prospecting. For these aims, landslide condition and travel time were investigated at 68 Landslide sites over the country during 1990 to 1991. The results were as follows. 1. The surface of rupture was included mainly in C layer. Its Hardness was less than 3kg / $\textrm{cm}^2$ at the upper pare of landslide. 2. When the profile line length was 20m, the range of travel time was 40 to 90 msec. The travel time did not differ between bedrocks. 3. Refraction distance ranged from 1 to 7m and mean of that was 2.5m. Travel time was increased according to receiving distance without large variance in the refraction distance but that was appeared large variance out of the refraction distance on slope that has shallow soil depth and discontinuous ground surface. Therefore, the spread distance must be shorten to 10-l5m. 4. The seismic velocity at the first layer(layer of rupture) was less than 500m1sec by degree of weathering and the velocity at the second layer decreased in order of Granite> Granitic gneiss >Sedimentary rock. 5. The first layer observed by seismic refraction was contained C layer that has parent material and weathered rocks of hardness 10-20kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. 6. Among the range of seismic velocity was less than 200m/sec in 63% of the total plots, 200-300m/sec in 34% and 300-500m /sec in 3%. 7. There was a proportional relationship between seismic prospecting soil depth and executive soil depth, and seismic propection soil depth was about 10 to 20cm deeper than the order.

Purpose: Usefulness in predicting the power of spherical rigid gas-pearmeable (RGP) lenses prescription using dioptric power matrices and arithmetic calculations was evaluated in this study. Noncycloplegic refractive errors and over-refractions were performed on 110 eyes of 55 subjects (36 males and 19 females, aged $24.60{\pm}1.55$years) in twenties objectively with an auto-refractometer (with keratometer) and subjectively. Tear lenses were calculated from keratometric readings and base curves of RGP lenses, and the power of RGP lenses were computed by a dioptric power matrix and an arithmetic calculation from the manifest refraction and the tear lens, and were compared with those by over-refractions in terms of spherical (Sph), spherical quivalent (SE) and astigmatic power. Results: The mean difference (MD) and 95% limits of agreement (LOA=$MD{\pm}1.96SD$) were better for SE (0.26D, $0.26{\pm}0.70D$) than for Sph (0.61D, $0.61{\pm}0.86D$). The mean difference and agreement of the cylindrical power between matrix and arithmetic calculation (-0.13D, $-0.13{\pm}0.53D$) were better than between the others (-0.24D, $0.24{\pm}0.84D$ between matrix and over-refraction; -0.12D, $0.12{\pm}1.00D$ between arithmetic calculation and over-refraction). The fitness of spherical RGP lenses were 54.5% for matrix, 66.4% for arithmetic calculation and 91.8% for over-refraction. Arithmetic calculation was close to the over-refraction. Conclusions: In predicting indications and powers of spherical RGP lens fitting, although there are the differences of axis between total (spectacle) astigmatism and corneal astigmatism, Spherical equivalent using an arithmetic calculation provides a more useful application than using a dioptric power matrix.
Purpose: The clinical usefulness of rotation evaluation using objective refraction in toric soft lenses fitting was investigated. Methods: Toric soft lenses were fitted for 32 subjects (64 eyes; mean age of 24.69 ${\pm}$ 1.65 years) with astigmatism and both eyes of each subject were fitted with toric soft lenses. Objective refraction-based lenses rotation was evaluated from refraction and over-refraction data by indirect calculating technique. These calculated data were compared with the measured data from slit lamp with direct measuring technique. Results: Orientation of toric soft lenses around zero position (within ${\pm}$ 5$^{\circ}$ vertical line) was investigated. The orientations to the direction of nose of measured and calculated values were 69.78% and 63.64%, respectively, which showed similar values between two techniques. Agreement frequency between measured and calculated values in the magnitude of lenses rotation 54.69% and 82.82% for 10$^{\circ}$ and 20$^{\circ}$ of vertical line, respectively. The 95% limits of agreement between calculation and measurement were from -10.08$^{\circ}$ to 12.65$^{\circ}$, and mean difference was 1.29$^{\circ}$ within ${\pm}$ 10$^{\circ}$. The result showed there was no significant difference (p = 0.1984) and high correlation (r = 0.56, p = 0.0004) between two techniques. But the 95% limits of agreement was widen in ${\pm}$ 20$^{\circ}$ of vertical line. The magnitude of lens rotation between two methods was 9.66 ${\pm}$ 6.16$^{\circ}$, 16.17 ${\pm}$ 12.38$^{\circ}$ and 10.58 ${\pm}$ 12.02$^{\circ}$ for normal, loose and tight fitted conditions. Conclusions: From the results with smaller difference between two techniques, it was found that higher availability of subjective over-refraction data can be used as a supplementary tool for subjective refraction. An application using objective refraction with direct measuring could be provide high success in prescription on toric soft lenses.

To establish the reinforce region and technique through the embankment dike after identifying the region of seawater inflow, we carried out small-loop electromagnetic (EM) survey, electrical resistivity survey and refraction seismic method. We also analyzed the distribution of electrical conductivity in reservoir with depth every two month and monitored water level variations with tidal variation in four observation wells located at seaside and reservoir side in order to analyze the relationship with survey results. From both the cross-correlation between tidal and water level variation at four wells and the distribution of electrical conductivity in reservoir with depth, the major portion of seawater inflow are identified through the embankment dike. From electromagnetic and electrical resistivity survey results, it was found that the seawater inflow were happened through several small regions at seaside and became wider near reservoir side. The 2-D inversion sections of refraction seismic method showed that the pebble-bearing sand layer is spread over the whole region with two to four width. From the this study, small-loop EM, electrical resistivity and refraction seismic surveys accompany with the distribution of electrical conductivity in reservoir with depth and the monitoring results for water level variations are revealed to be effective to identify seawater inflow pathway through embankment dike and to establish the reinforce region and technique through the embankment dike.
This paper deals with tomographic travel time inversion of three dimensional seismic refraction survey conducted over a dipping interface. The slowness, and thus velocity as its reciprocal, distribution on the subsurface interface is to be determined applying an ART with under-relaxtion parameter. The models chosen are realistic, i.e., most likely to be met in engineering seismics, and the interface includes anomalous zones. It is found that, generally speaking, the inversion could be misleading or meaningless without the correction of the dip of the interface. This is rather surprising when we recall that usual assumption for the interpretation of refraction seismics data is the horizontal attitude of structures within the limit of $15^{\circ}$ dip or so. To make the present method tenable for a new means of routine seismics, some practical ways of identifying head wave arrivals are to be devised.
To fine understand the visual acuity of female old age. This study was researched the visual acuity test by the object and subject methods. The major findings was as follows: 1. The eye types were 80.94% positive for hyperopia. 13.86% for myopia and 5.19% for emmetropia respectively. 2. The anbormal refraction eye was positive for mixed astigmatism for 78.27%, myoptic com pound astigmatism (10.99%), simple presbyopia(4.97%), myopic simple astigmatism(2.88%), presbyopia compound astigmatism (1.57%), simple myopia(0.78%) and presbyopia simple astigmatism(0.52%). 3. The axis of astigmatism was 60.23% for against regular astigmatism. 22.73% for oblique astigmatism and 17.05% for regular astigmatism respectively. 4. On the total myopic spheric power, the -0.50 spheric equivalent ${\leq}-2.00$ was 90.2%, the -2.00${\leq}-6.00$ was 9.8%. 5. On the total presbyopic spheric power, the -0.50${\leq}-2.00$ was 80.252%, the -2.00${\leq}-6.00$ was 16.99% and 2.56% for anything over the 6.00 diopter. 6. On the astigmatic power, the $0.50{\geq}$ cylinder power${\geq}1.00$ was 69.35%,the 1.00> cylinder power ${\geq}2.00$ was 27.38%, and anything over the 2.00 cylinder diopter was 3.27%.
