  • Described is a DC voltage regulator of new type where an optical fiber is used as a sense line to transmit the PFM signal, which represents the load voltage and its change, from the load to the controller so as to make the equivalent sense-line length short. The prototype version provides a load voltage change rate of 2.3% over the current range of 0A to 5A at 15V DC, with an output impedance of 0.06ohm.

  • The stresses in lubricants by external force lead to rise in temperature and drop in viscosty, and the performance of lubricants decrease by this phenomena. The processes of shear stress generation and relaxation are linear under light load condition but those are changed into nonlinearly over a certain limit of load and speed, and this phenomena influences to viscosty change. This study investigates dense fluid which carries property change for high shear rate by using molecular dynamics, and that result can be related to research a behavior of property change of lubricants under high speed and heavy load.

  • A new bearing concept, the wave journal bearing, has been developed to improve the static and dynamic performances of an air-lubricated hydrodynamic journal bearing. This concept features waves on bearing surface. In this study, we present the solution of the compressible Reynolds equation valid for arbitrary Knudsen numbers. Straight wave journal bearing is investigated numerically. The performances of straight wave bearing are compared to the plain journal bearing over relatively wide range of bearing number and eccentricity. The wave journal bearing offers better stability than the plain journal bearing under all bearing numbers covered in this study. The bearing load and stability characteristics are dependent on the geometric parameters such as the amplitude and the starting point of the wave relative to the applied load. Under the condition of Knudsen number>0.01, we can not ignore the effect of slip for Journal bearing.

  • Prestressing steels are susceptible to corrosion, which is considered the major reason in the deterioration of prestressed concrete structures. To solve this problem, many research have been made to utilize new type of tendons. FRP tendons have many advantages compared to steel tendons. However, FRP tendons have some disadvantages, such as no plastic behavior. This study focused on the flexural behavior of prestresssed concrete beams which is fabricated by post-tensioning method with CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) tendons. Th results drawn from the study, prestressed concrete beams with CFRP tendons have higher flexural cracking load, flexural yielding load, and flexural fracture load. While displacement at the fracture stage is lower compared to prestressed concrete beams with steel tendon. Excessive steel reinforcement lead lower ductility index. So, appropriate reinforcement guideline is needed. Further more, prestressed concrete beams with CFRP tendons can have sufficient ductility index when ruptured by crushing of concrete or used unbonded tendon. Therefore, the best design method for prestressed concrete beams with CFRP tendons is over-reinforcement, and use of unbonded tendon.

  • In this paper, a study on the reflector type frequency doubler, to suppress the undesired harmonics, is presented. A 12 to 24 GHz reflective frequency doubler is simulated and experimented. Design procedure of the frequency doubler with reflector is provided and the frequency doubler with good spectral purity is fabricated successfully. It has harmonic suppression of the $40{\sim}50\;dBc$ in the $1^{st}$ harmonic and the $50{\sim}60\;dB$ in the $3^{rd}$ harmonic with no additional filter. And, it has conversion gain with the input power of 0 dBm over bandwidth of 500 MHz. A NEC's ne71300(N) GaAs FET is used and the nonlinear model(EEFET3) using IC-CAP program is extracted for harmonic load pull simulation. Good agreement between simulated and measured results has been achieved.

  • This work is to study the effect of load current on 6.6 kV power cables in operation. In order to figure out the relationship between load current and temperature of the power cables, we have developed measuring equipment for insulation resistance, temperature, and current tested on 9 cables at power station, Western Power Co. Ltd. The cables used in our test were in operation for the last 18 years. Our research over a year showed that the remaining lifetime of 8 cables was more than 20 years. The remaining lifetime of one cable was about 16 to 18 years.

  • Despite that the failure of sign structure may not have disastrous consequence, its sheer number still ensures the need for rigorous safety standard to regulate their maintenance and construction. During its service life, a sign structure is subject to extensive wind load, sometimes well over its permissible design load. A fragility analysis of a sign structure offers a tool for rational decision making and safety evaluation by using a probabilistic framework to consider the various sources of uncertainty that affect its performance. Wind fragility analysis was used to determine the performance of sign structure based on the performance of its connection components. In this study, basic wind fragility concepts and data required to support the fragility analysis of the sign structure such as sign panel's parameters, connection component's parameters, as well as wind load parameters were presented. Fragility and compound fragility analysis showed disparity between connection component. Additionally, reinforcement of the connection system was introduced as an example of the utilization of wind fragility results in the retrofit decision making.

  • Studies were carried out on forty young bulls of the Hariana breed (around 18 months of age) selected on the basis of their dam's milk yield at the animal farm of CCS HAU, Hisar during the period 1993-1999. Since animals showed variation in capacity to work over prolonged periods, they were subjected to regimes of carting without load and with 8 qtls. of load for three hours. The study revealed that maximum change took place in the pulse rate, followed by respiration rate and rectal temperature. The mean fatigue score for pulling an empty cart ranged between 1.66 to 2.20 after two hours work, and 2.36 to 2.73 after three hours work. For a cart loaded with 8 qtls., the corresponding ranges were 2.90 to 3.36 and 3.40 to 4.10, respectively. These results indicated that the animals under experiment had the capacity to pull moderate load (8 qtls.) for about two hours without showing any serious effect on the ability to recover and soon to work again.

  • Container load problems are conventional issues in history. Loading cylindrical or rectangle packages in restricted space is required to be efficient to minimize remaining area. Many people have depended on experience or known simple algorithms for a long time. Recently systematic algorithms are published over the world with developed computer technology. Maximal rectangles algorithm is well known to load arbitrary rectangles in a larger rectangle container with the organized manners. However, this algorithm has significant drawbacks, which are influenced by orientation of input load. We propose post-selective method to complement these orientation effects, which is found out to improve the loading efficiency.

  • The effects of journal speed and bearing load on pressure distribution and the temperature distribution of bearing surface are investigated experimentally. The journal bearing which has 219.94mm diameter, length-to-diameter ratio of L/D=0.8 and clearance ratio of 0.004 is used. Journal has a built-in pressure transducer for the measurement of pressure distribution in the mid plane of bearing. Bearing surface temperatures are measured at 60 points. The bearing load is varied from 300 N to 5900 N and journal speed from 300 rpm to 2500 rpm. As the load is increased under constant speed, the location of maximum pressure moves to the site of minimum film thickness, and maximum pressure and absolute value of minimum pressure are increased. The temperature distribution in vicinity of oil inlet shows that heated lubricant's carry-over exists around the oil inlet.
