  • When realizing a multiple-output function by a PLA, there is often the flexibility to choose either uncomplementary or complementary phase for each output. In this case, it is possible to significantly reduce the number of product terms by fully exploiting the freedom. This paper presents a PLA phase for each output of a multiple-output function so that the product terms for each output are maximally shared with the other outputs. and then minimizes the multiple-output function with the assigned output phase assignment. The algorithm has been implemented on Sun4/330 in C language and compared with the previous approaches for 56 example PLA`s. The proposed algorithm has obtained better results for 18-32 PLA's, worse results for 1-5 PLA`s, and the same results for 23-33 PLA's. Moreover, the computation time is much less than for the previous approaches.

  • This paper investigates the source of bilateral trade imbalance at industry level. We build a simple model based on gravity theory and derive the prediction that the bilateral trade balance in an industry is increasing in the difference between trading partners in the output share of the industry. We test this prediction and find that the difference in industry share is highly significant in predicting both the sign and the magnitude of trade balance at industry level. We also find that FTAs tend to enlarge trade imbalance at industry level. However, the overall predictive power of the model is rather limited, suggesting that factors other than production specialization are important in determining trade balance at industry level. Another finding of the paper is that the influence of the difference in industry share on trade balance increases as we move to industries that produce more homogeneous products. This finding calls into question monopolistic competition as the main driver of gravity in international trade.

  • The aim of this study is to compare country output and citation impact as well as to assess the level of interdisciplinarity in the field of tribology research during the period 1998-2012, based on the SCOPUS database. Macro-level scientometric indicators such as growth rate, share of international collaborative papers, citation per paper, share of un-cited papers, and publication efficiency index were employed. Further, the Simpson Index of Diversity was used to measure the level of interdisciplinarity. The performance of top countries contributing more than 1000 papers during the study period was discussed. Contributions and share of continents and countries by income groups were examined. Further research contributions and citation impact of selected country groups were analyzed. This study reveals that high levels of interdisciplinarity exist in tribology research. Asia outperforms the other world regions and China contributes most of the papers (25%), while the United States receives most of the citations (22%).

  • The paper describes the quantitative and qualitative dimensions of artificial neural networks (ANN) in India in the global context. The study is based on research publications data (8260) as covered in the Scopus database during 1999-2018. ANN research in India registered 24.52% growth, averaged 11.95 citations per paper, and contributed 9.77% share to the global ANN research. ANN research is skewed as the top 10 countries account for 75.15% of global output. India ranks as the third most productive country in the world. The distribution of research by type of ANN networks reveals that Feed Forward Neural Network type accounted for the highest share (10.18% share), followed by Adaptive Weight Neural Network (5.38% share), Feed Backward Neural Network (2.54% share), etc. ANN research applications across subjects were the largest in medical science and environmental science (11.82% and 10.84% share respectively), followed by materials science, energy, chemical engineering and water resources (from 6.36% to 9.12%), etc. The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee lead the country as the most productive organizations (with 289 and 264 papers). Besides, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (33.04 and 2.76) and Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (24.26 and 2.03) lead the country as the most impactful organizations in terms of citation per paper and relative citation index. P. Samui and T.N. Singh have been the most productive authors and G.P.S.Raghava (86.21 and 7.21) and K.P. Sudheer (84.88 and 7.1) have been the most impactful authors. Neurocomputing, International Journal of Applied Engineering Research and Applied Soft Computing topped the list of most productive journals.

  • This paper analyzes India's contribution to world tribology research during the period 2001-2012 based on SCOPUS records. India's global publication share, annual output, and its citation impact of Indian contribution, partner countries, leading contributors, leading institutes, and highly cited papers were analyzed. Additionally, a cloud technique is used to map frequently used single words in titles. It is observed that India ranks in the $7^{th}$ position with a global publication share of 3.83% and an annual average growth rate of 25.58% during the period 2001-2012. The citation impact of India's contribution is 6.05 which decreased from 12.74 during 2001-2006 to 4.62 during 2007-2012. 17.4% of India's total research output was published with international collaboration.

  • The import content of export (ICE) has served as an indicator of global integration for several decades. It is defined as the share of imported products embodied in exports and can be interpreted as the relative degree of the utilization of global production network (GPN) over the domestic supply chain (DSC) in terms of 'value-added.' This paper proposes two new indicators of global integration. They are defined as the ratios of imports (foreign products) to gross output (domestic products) generated by exports and can be interpreted as the relative degrees of the utilization of GPN over DSC in terms of 'production.' Both indicators are easy to compute and can be compared between years, between countries, between industries, and between groups of industries. The paper applies the new indicators to the recent edition of the OECD's Input-Output Database. Finally, the paper shows that the recent slowdown in international trade is mostly due to the decrease in the international trade of intermediate goods, with significant implications regarding the future of global integration.

  • The purpose of this parer is to identify the input-output structure of oriental medicine and its alternative medicine industries in an inter-industry context and to estimate its forward and backward effects on macroeconomic variables such as production, employment and price level. Input-output tables released by The Bank of Korea were used as data in this research and inter-industry analysis was adopted as research methodology. The industry takes less share of production, price and trade in a Korean economy, compared with other industry. However, the industry's capability of creating value added is estimated to be well above that of other industry and that of making new employments is as more than 4 times as other industries. This result gives us policy implications that the government should enhance its subsidy policy and economic (tax) incentives for oriental medicine and its related alternative medicine industries.

  • A new SEPIC-Flyback convater is proposed. The proposed converter is the superposition of SEPIC and Flyback converter. Not only SEPIC output but also Flyback output could be fully regulated by constant frequency PWM control. Merged SEPIC and Flyback topology could share the transformer and power MOSFET. When the switch turns of one topology operates via capacitive energy transfer. Another topology acts as powering mode while the switch is off. So, it could increase power falsify per one cycle. The operating principle of the proposed converter is described below. Prototype featuring 24V input 48V output, 100kHz switching frequency, and 100W output is simulated under the proposed topology.
