  • This paper is presented real-time digital control techniques of the PWM inverter for UPS. This proposed system is based on instantaneous digital control scheme which is empolyed double dead beat control and prediction method. Especially, to supply the load current from the inverter without the computation delay, the predictive methods are used to generate the load current signal. From the simulation and experimental results, it is shown that presented scheme has good performance such as very low THD of the output voltage, and good dynamic response under the nonlinear load. The experimental implementation of the system is estabilished by using the TMS320C25 DSP.

  • This study proposes criteria for both optimal-shape and magnetizer-system designs to be used for a high-output spoke-type motor. The study also examines methods of reducing high-cogging torque and torque ripple, to prevent noise and vibration. The optimal design of the stator and rotor can be enhanced using both a response surface method and finite element method. In addition, a magnetizer system is optimally designed for the magnetization of permanent magnets for use in the motor. Finally, this study verifies that the proposed motor can efficiently replace interior permanent magnet synchronous motor in many industries.

  • The proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) holds great promise of clean power. However, in practical applications which use the PEMFC as the power source, the output voltage from the fuel cell undergoes a transient response especially during acceleration and deceleration. This paper presents the relationships between the charge curves of the internal voltage rise, discharge curves of the internal voltage drop, the voltage with a time constant $V_{\tau}$ and finally, the load and time constant $\tau$ of $FC_1$ and $FC_2$, connected both in series and in parallel.

  • The FISPACT-II inventory simulation platform is a modern computational tool with advanced and unique capabilities. It is sufficiently flexible and efficient to make it an ideal basis around which to perform extensive simulation studies to scope a variety of responses of many materials (elements) to several different neutron irradiation scenarios. This paper briefly presents the typical outputs from these scoping studies, which have been used to compile a suite of nuclear physics materials handbooks, providing a useful and vital resource for material selection and design studies. Several different global responses are extracted from these reports, allowing for comparisons between materials and between different irradiation conditions. A new graphical output format has been developed for the FISPACT-II platform to display these "global summaries"; results for different elements are shown in a periodic table layout, allowing side-by-side comparisons. Several examples of such plots are presented and discussed.

  • The gain-clamped EDFA has been developed to eliminate the output power change of WDM surviving channels to occur with added or dropped channels, which degrades the performance of EDM optical network. It maintains the constant gain of surviving channels when WDM channels are added or dropped in a network amplifying node. In this paper, the bi-directionally pumped gain-clamped EDFA is implemented to compensate the change of the input power by a lasing. The results show that the alsing of a short wavelength and backward propagation is the optimal condition to minimize the transient response of surviving channels in terms of the overshoot and gain saturation sue to the inhomogeneous broadening effect.

  • The objective of this study is to develop stochastic and deterministic models which could be used to synthesize water application time series. Adaptive models using mulitivariate ARIMA(Transfer Function Model) are developed for daily urban water use forecasting. The model considers several variables on which water demands is dependent. The dynamic response of water demands to several factors(e.g. weekday, average temperature, minimum temperature, maximum temperature, humidity, cloudiness, rainfall) are characterized in the model by transfer functions. Daily water use data of Kumi city in 1992 are employed for model parameter estimation. Meteorological data of Seonsan station are utilized to input variables because Kumi has no records about the meteorological factor data.To determine the main factors influencing water use, autocorrelogram and cross correlogram analysis are performed. Through the identification, parameter estimation, and diagnostic checking of tentative model, final transfer function models by each month are established. The simulation output by transfer function models are compared to a historical data and shows the good agreement.

  • Electro-Active Paper (EAPap) is attractive for EAP actuator due to its merit in terms of light weight, dry condition, large displacement output, low actuation voltage and low power consumption. The EAPap is based on cellulose paper, and is shown to involve primarily transport of ions in response to an external electric field. This actuating mechanism is similar to conductive polymer based actuators. For performance improvement of EAPap, hybrid actuators are tried. The actuators based on cellulose paper attached conducting polypyrrole, polyaniline and single wall carbon nanotube/polyaniline(emeraldine base) have been achieved by Electro chemical deposition and mechanical deposition of the polymers onto cellulose paper.

  • A method is given for obtaining low-order models for a linear time-invariant system of high-order by minimizing a functional of the reduction error between the output response of the original system and the low-order model. The method is based on the Astrom's algorithm for the evaluation of complex integrals and the conjugate gradient method of Fletcher-Reeves. An example illustrating the application of this method is given for approximation of a 4-th order system to be used in the load frequency control of generator systems.

  • This paper shows that is possible to identify the system's input-output dynamics exactly in the presence of unknown periodic disturbances for the Active Engine Mount Control Application .The disturbance frequencies and waveforms can be completely unknown and arbitrary. Only measurements of a control excitation signal and the disturbance-contaminated response are used for identification. Examples are given to illustrate the method, including the identification and vibration control of active engine mount for automobile.
