Dead time Compensation of Single-phase Grid-connected Inverter Using SOGI (SOGI를 이용한 단상 계통연계형 인버터의 데드타임 보상)

  • This study proposes a compensation method for the dead-time effects on a single-phase grid-connected inverter. Dead time should be considered in the pulse-width modulation gating signals to prevent the simultaneous conduction of switching devices, considering that a switching device has a finite switching time. Consequently, the output current of the grid-connected inverter contains odd-numbered harmonics because of the dead time and the nonlinear characteristics of the switching devices. The effects of dead time on output voltage and current are analyzed in this study. A new compensation algorithm based on second-order generalized integrator is also proposed to reduce the dead-time effect. Simulation and experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed compensation algorithm.

  • The SMZ half-bridge converter uses the resonance between the inductance of transformer and the resonant capacitances to transfer the input power to the load. In addition to this kind of characteristic of the converter, there are some features such as the capability of soft switching operation, a lower switching loss, and a higher power density in the converter. However in the low-voltage and high-output current applications of the converter, the extremely increased output ripple voltage prevents the converter from normal operation. In order to overcome the drawback of the converter, adding the output filter inductor to the converter, the converter shows the completely different resonant characteristics. In this paper, We analyzed the resonant characteristics of the SMZ converter with the output filter inductor and investigated what the analyzed results affect the converter operation. The experiment of a I50W prototype SMZ converter with 5V output and 310V input is carried out to verity the validity of the analyzed results.

  • A solar cell should be operated at the maximum output point on the I-V characteristic curve with constant current and constant voltage in order that the solar energy be fully utilized. According to, in this paper, we describes a controller which can track the maximum power point of a solar arry using current and voltage ripple variation of step up chopper system. The control circuit is desinged such that actual current and voltage are sensed directly from the solar cell array. These two signal are then holded sampling and multiplies by a single chip multiplier.

  • All electric trains in the city should be run without any troubles of the equipments in order to offer good services to the passengers. But some breakdowns occur when they are operated due to the long time uses. There are mechanical troubles and electrical troubles included reactors. Most of them, the reason of the troubles can be found out easily after breakdown. But it is difficult to find out the reasons of the reactor troubles which disappear after operation. The reactors of the train filter the current which supplied from electrical lines and supply the current to the inverter and block the ripple of the current. Partial discharge occur from the reactor by the heat. accordingly, If the signals of discharge were perceived, it could be anticipate the deterioration degree of insulation. In this paper, on-monitoring system for reactor's troubles in trains is established and the output results of monitoring system are investigated.

  • In this paper, we firstly proposed to the boost type PFC circuit for a power factor improving and a harmonic decreasing. The predict current control method is used to control these PFC circuit. This current control method has a merit that is possible to improve power factor and harmonics. In addition, we suggested to the active DC filter, which is connected with the DC output terminal, in order to compensate the DC ripple components. Consequently, these results are proved by the simulation tool, PSIM, which is an exclusive simulator of power electronics.

  • This paper describes the design of a 2-phase stepping motor driver using CPLD(Complex Programmable Logic Device). The driver IC such as L297 (SGS-Thomson Microelectronics), which is mostly used has some problems in PWM control because of the switching noise of power MOSFETs. It causes current ripple and acoustic noise. To improve theses characteristics, we proposed a new current control method that the output PWM frequency is almost constant using a digital filter. Also we proposed constant current method for 1-2 phase(half step) excitation. The proposed method is implemented with CPLD(Xilinx, XC9572-PC44). Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper has introduces a novel Integrated On-board Charger (IOBC) to reduce the size, weight and cost of power conversion stages in Electric Vehicles (EVs). The IOBC is composed of an OBC and a low voltage dc-dc converter (LDC). The IOBC includes a bidirectional ac-dc converter and a bidirectional full-bridge converter with an active clamp circuit. The LDC converter is a hybrid topology combining an active clamped full-bridge converter and a forward converter derived from the Weinburg converter topology. Unlike conventional OBC, the proposed IOBC is compact and the LDC converter of it can achieve a higher efficiency. In addition, the LDC converter of the proposed IOBC can achieve high step-down voltage conversion ratio, no circulating current, no reverse recovery current of the rectifier diodes and small ripple current of output inductor on the auxiliary battery. A 1kW hardware of the LDC converter is implemented to verify the performances of the proposed IOBC.

  • In this paper, High brightness LED (light-emitting diodes) driver IC (integrated circuit) using new current sensing circuit is proposed. This LED driver IC can provide a constant current with high current precision over a wide input voltage range. The proposed current-sensing circuit is composed of a cascode current sensor and a current comparator with only one reference voltage. This IC minimizes the voltage stress of the MOSFET (metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor) from the maximum input voltage and has low power consumption and chip area by using simple-structured comparator and minimum bias current. To confirm the functioning and characteristics of our proposed LED driver IC, we designed a buck converter. The LED current ripple of the designed IC is in ${\pm}5%$ and a tolerance of the average LED current is lower than 2.43%. This shows much improved feature than the previous method. Also, protections for input voltage and operating temperature are designed to improve the reliability of the designed IC. Designed LED driver IC uses 1.0 ${\mu}m$ X-Fab. BiCMOS process parameters and electrical characteristics and functioning are verified by spectre (Cadence) simulation.

  • This paper has proposed a new dead time compensation method for a voltage-fed PMW inverter. In the voltage-fed PMW inverter, a voltage distortion is generated by the dead time effect and the nonlinear characteristics of the switching devices. Especially, the distorted voltage causes 5th and 7th harmonics in the stationary phase currents, and 6th harmonic in the synchronous phase currents. As a result, the integrator output of the synchronous PI current regulator has the ripple corresponding to six times of the inverter output frequency. In this paper, the signal of the integrator output of the d-axis current regulator is used as the control signal for the dead time compensation. The experimental and simulation results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed method.
