  • This paper presents a method to extract 3D outlines of objects in an image obtained from a monocular vision. After detecting the general outlines of the object by MOPS(Multi-Scale Oriented Patches) -algorithm and we obtain their spatial coordinates. Simultaneously, it obtains the space-coordinates with feature points to be immanent within the outlines of objects through SIFT(Scale Invariant Feature Transform)-algorithm. It grasps a form of objects to join the space-coordinates of outlines and SIFT feature points. The method which is proposed in this paper, it forms general outlines of objects, so that it enables a rapid calculation, and also it has the advantage capable of collecting a detailed data because it supplies the internal-data of outlines through SIFT feature points.

  • The functions and their graphs are very important parts in mathematical educations. But there seems be a lot of students studying the functions and their graphs without grasping the meaning of them and without interest with them. We present a learning method of how to match functions and their graphs with outlines of various shapes. That is, outlines of the shapes are assumed to be the graphs of the functions and the graphs will be plotted on the screen of a computer with help of the computer algebra system.

  • In this paper, we propose a new localization system using ceiling outlines. We acquire the entire ceiling image by using fisheye lens camera, and extract the lines by binarization and segmentation. The optical flow algorithm is then applied to identify the ceiling region from the segmented regions. Finally we obtain the position and orientation of the robot by the center position and momentum of ceiling region. Since we use the fully detected outlines, the accuracy and reliability of the localization system is improved. The experimental result are finally presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a method for calculating contact force between bodies on plane. At each integration time step, the proposed method finds expected contact point on their outlines and then calculates penetration, velocity of penetration and contact force. This paper adopts continuous analysis method and multi-point contact method to calculate contact force. To obtain the accurate expected contact point on their outlines, a new algorithm is developed. The accuracy of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by comparing the numerical results of the proposed method and DADS.

  • In this study, it was carried out to characterize the figures of landform of Yong-San, called dragon mountain implied indentity and emblem of local landscape by analyzing palce name extracted from four county in Kyongsang Nam-Do. The figures of landform of Yong-San was characterized and divided into three types, called as Waryong lying dragon), Banryong(dragon lying in a coil), Yongdu(dragon's crown). And the spatial characterstics of three types of landform were analyzed. Furthermore, it was investigated the development of outlines of characteristic landform recognoxed as a Yong-San and figured out the structure of landform which was easily recognized. According to the results, the outlines and the spatial structure of landform recognized as a Yong-San including a symbolic meaning can be used as a standard of judgement if an area should be reserved for the efficient conduct of regional plan.

  • Recent years have seen an intensified discussion in many OECD countries about the role and mission of public research in the innovation system. This discussion takes place in quite specific national contexts, but should benefit from international experience. However, whereas voluminous literatures address the changing governance methods, organizational forms and missions of universities, much less attention has been devoted to developing a common understanding of the challenges faced by non-university public research institutions. The main goals of this paper is to contribute to clarifying the nature of these challenges, outlines possible policy answers and draws some implications for Korea. In the first section, the paper uses available internationally comparable indicators to review trends in the contribution of government research institutes (GRIs) to R&D and innovation activities. In the second section, the paper identifies the current major changes in the dynamics of innovation that may call for further adjustments in the positioning, organization and steering of public research institutes. Finally, the paper outlines some strategic objectives and orientations for the reform of public research institutes as part of the broader agenda of the Korean innovation strategy.

  • Representing an environment as the probabilistic grids is effective to sense outlines of the environment in the mobile robot area. Outlines of an environment can be expressed factually by using the probabilistic grids especially if sonar sensors would be supposed to build an environment map. However, the difficult problem of a sonar such as a specular reflection phenomenon should be overcome to build a grid map through sonar observations. In this paper, the NRF(Neighborhood Recognition Factor) was developed for building a grid map in which the specular reflection effect is minimized. Also the reproduction rate of the gird map built by using NRF was analyzed with respect to a true map. The experiment was conducted in a home environment to verify the proposed technique.
