  • In this paper, we describe an outdoor augmented reality system using GPS tracking for position and attitude information. The system consist of a remote mobile operation unit and a ground operation unit. The remote mobile operation unit includes a real-time image acquiring device, a GPS tracking device, and a wireless data transceiver; the ground operation unit includes a wireless transceiver, a virtual image generating device, and an image superimposing device. The GPS tracking device for measurement of position and attitude of the remote mobile operation unit was designed by TANS Vector and RT-20 for DGPS. The wireless data transceiver was for data transmission between the remote mobile operation unit and the ground operation unit. After the remote mobile operation unit was installed on a vehicle and a helicopter, the system was evaluated to verify its validity in actual applications. It was found that the implemented system could be used for obtaining real-time remote information such as construction simulation, tour guide, broadcasting, disaster observation, or military purpose.

  • The purpose of this study is to make clear the present condition and the reason of noise in one-room ape multi-family housing around the campus by residents' subjective responses. The respondents are 104 residents living in one-room ape multi-family housing around the campus. The results are as follows. 1) The residents show relatively non-positive responses at evening and night on the present condition of noise in outdoor and indoor of building or indoor of house unit. 2) The types of outdoor noise of building are checked frequently are 'talking loudness' and 'traffic noise'. 'Walking and talking sounds in stairs and corridors' among the types of indoor noise of building shows highest percentage. They answer 'living equipment noise' and 'water hammer' as major types of indoor noise of house unit.

  • Spread of household air conditioning system is continued to be increased. Axial fan in the external unit of air conditioning system is for ventilation and air supplying unit, and the related products have been widely adopted as household electronics, automobile engine, big sized blower in factory, tunnel, and subway. In this study, commercial 3-winged propeller fan is modified to shape and modified to 2-winged fan for the airflow increase and cost reduction. Using 3D modelling, the fan shape is modified, and analysis flow is adopted to provide the way to airflow increase and reduce cost while maintaining the same wind capacity.

  • The noise sources in the outdoor unit of RAC are identified by the sound intensity method. The main noise sources are compressor noise and fluid noise which is caused by the fan. heat exchanger and shroud. First. the fluid noise is reduced through the design of new fan and shroud. reduction of the system resistance by rearrangement of heat exchanger. and optimization of the complex parameter between the fan and shroud. Next, in order to reduce the compressor noise, the new shape of compressor mount and sound-proof material was applied. As a result, the overall noise was reduced by 4∼5dB (A).

The main noise sources are compressor noise and fluid noise which is caused by the fan, heat exchanger and shroud. First, the fluid noise is reduced through the design ol new fan and shroud with high flow rate and low noise, reduction of the system resistance by rearrangement of heat exchanger, and optimization of the complex parameter between the fan and shroud. Next, in order to reduce the compressor noise, the new shape of compressor mount and sound-proof material was applied. As a result, the overall noise was reduced by 4-5dB(A).

  • The electro-magnetic noise generated from fan-driving motor is one of important items in view of abnormal noise which affect the quality of air conditioner noise. The electro-magnetic noise of the outdoor unit is identified by the serial experiments for related parts, whose effects are verified to give proper measures for reduced noise level. The weight of fan appears to be the most important factor, and the stiffness of the frame, such as motor bracket is shown to be important also.

  • The sound transmission from the machine room where air-conditioner outdoor unit is located into the adjacent room is predicted and evaluated. The software package for statistical energy analysis(SEA) is utilized to determine the transmission losses of multi-layerd panels. To determine the noise level in the machine room, ray tracing method is adopted. The various sound transmission paths have been effectively identified and evaluated by the SEA tool.

  • In this paper, aerodynamic noise of axial flow fans for outdoor unit of air-conditioner was analyzed by both experiment and numerical simulation. The three-dimensional incompressible turbulent flow was predicted by the commercial computational fluid dynamics code SC/Tetra, while the aeroacoustic noise of an axial flow fan was predicted by FlowNoise. Computations and experiments were performed with two types of axial flow fans, in which very different noise source distributions were presented. The results obtained from this study are expected to show the way to reduce the noise of axial flow fans in industrial applications.

  • The aerodynamic performance of axial flow fans for outdoor unit of air-conditioner is investigated by numerical and experimental approaches in this study. The pressure drop and volumetric flow rate are compared each other in several different conditions and fan speeds. It is shown that the predicted fan performances are quite well matched with the experimental results. It is also shown that the curvature of the fan arc and hub height have significant influences on the flow distribution after hub. By the results of this study, it can be suggested that several ways to improve the aerodynamic performance of the axial flow fan can be found using the numerical analysis.
