Korean society is experiencing rapid changes which are certain to shape the lives of the older people and their families. So, the purpose of this study was to improve the quality of the elderly welfare service in Korea. Even though the interest about the elderly welfare in Korea is rapidly on the increase, the reality of Korean Society still leaves much to be desired, quantitatively as well as qualitatively. Pay attent to this point, now going to grasp the situation of not the handicapped elder people but the general elder people actual life condition and demand for welfare. So this study focused on the demand of not out-of home service but in-home care service. It was based on the data from by Korea National Statistical Office, having observed 6,139 elderly people. The results were as follows. They hope to get the elderly welfare services about health examination service, nursing survice, supporting service for household. That was, the most of them wanted in-home care service than out-of home care service. To ensure effective care to the elderly, it needed development and settlement of welfare service in face of their daily living. And, even though they recognized that they should cover the elderly life expenses themselves, the rate was hit that indicated their adult children as a parents supporter. This means that we should consider not only to the elder people but also to the family which contained the old people as the elderly welfare service. As a remedy, we can find the cooperation between elder welfare service at the social welfare organization and counsel, education at the family strengthen center. To improve the quality of the elderly welfare service in Korea, the elderly welfare service should focus not only on the physical and spiritual health maintenance but also active understanding living environment and growing ability to arbitrate between individual and living.

The eleven home care nurse practitioners took the survey on 97 patients who received home care nursing service from Seoul City Nurses Association for one month from September 26 to October 26 1996. A modified version of Braden's bed sore assessment tool for bed sore risks and a tool for assessment of bed sore stage and measurement bed sore sizes by Bergstrom, Braden, Laguzza and Holman(1987) were as research tools for this study and a questionnare with 40 questions and 12 items on nursing activities was used to find out the prevention and treatment of bed sores. Also, two open ended questions were used on current approaches and efforts of the treatment being applied to clients. The finding of the study were summarized as following : 1. The rate of bed sore occurrence was 47.4% 2. The areas of bed sore occurrence were hip(28.9%), sacrum(18.6%), great trochanter(14.4%) and the average number of sore spots were 2.26 3. Two groups-one with bed sores and the other without-were studied to determine prediction factors for bed sore risks. Sensory function, humidity, level of activity, mobility, nutrition, skin friction and chapping and body temperature turned out to be statistically significant factors for bed sores. Also the age of clients turned out to be a individual characteristic variable significantly affecting the rate of bed sore occurrences. 4. The education for clients and family on systematic skin assessment and bed sores and practice of active/passive R.O.M. are mainly used as nursing activities for bed sore care. 5. The treatment method varied by stages of bed sores. Sometimes folk remedies like applying the powders of dried elm tree roots to sores were used. Treatment for the arthritic is mostly on the out-patient basis. The present rheumatologists practicing in Korea do not cover the total number of the patients. Also patients with arthritis need medical treatment for long period of time. Therefore, the number of patients waiting for the treatment is huge in number. This vicious cycle need to be broken in some way. Purpose of this study is to identify the need for home care of the arthritic patients. Nineteen hundred and sixty two subjects were interviewed in one hospital for one month. The following findings were observed : 1. The rates for demanding home care were from 60% to 100% depending on the areas. 2. Reasons for no need of home care were mainly credibility and short distance from the hospital. 3. Time spent for one way transportation was more than 3.3 hours except from Seoul and Kyungki area. The longer they spend time for transportation, the more they want home care services. 4. The number of patients who asked other persons to travel for prescription was 446(22.73%) and average number was 3.26 per year in those 446 cases. 5. Average expenses for transportation and other cost for each time of hospital visit were 21,073won ranged from 8,373 won to 132,571 won. The more spend money for visiting the hospital, the more they want home care services. In order to reduce the physical and economical burden of the arthritic patients living in remote areas, hospital-based home care services are justified on the bases of patients' demand and legislative support.
The best way to care senile dementia patients is understanding the nature of disease. Care-givers can't understand the patients because the patients can't properly communicate with care-givers. Thus, care-givers are supposed to find out ways to understand them in the nature of disease. From this view, there seems no exception in essential attitude of care-givers toward the patients. Without positive understanding the nature of disease and respecting patient's rights as a human even though they are badly disorder in their word and behavior. There seems no expectation for thousands quality of care-giving.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand care workers' fall-related knowledge and caring behaviors for fall prevention in nursing home. Methods: This study was a descriptive survey study. Data have been collected from 125 care workers in 5 nursing homes. Data were analyzed using frequency, t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: 1) The average percentage of correct answers for care workers' fall-related knowledge was 72.2%. There were significant differences in fall-related knowledge by age, experiences of re-education about care for fall injuries, and experiences to transfer fall patients to another hospital. 2) The average level of care workers' caring behaviors for fall prevention was 3.81 points out of 4. There were significant differences by experiences of education about care for fall injuries in nursing home and concern of fall injury prevention. 3) There was a significant correlation between fall-related knowledge and caring behaviors for fall prevention (r=.320, p<.001).
