  • This paper is a brief review of the different procedures that are available for fitting theoretical distributions to data. The use of each technique is illustrated by reference to a distribution system which including the Pearson, Johnson and Burr functions. These functions can be used to calculate percent out of specification. The main objectives of this study are to propose a new methods for estimating a measure of process capability for Beta distributed variable data by using the percentage nonconforming. The comprehensive information for the process can be used to evaluate more accurately process capability.

  • A model selection approach is used to find out whether the mean and the variance of a unique sample are different from the pre-specified values. Normal distribution is selected as an approximating model. Kullback-Leibler discrepancy comes out as a natural measure of discrepancy between the operating model and the approximating model. Several estimates of selection criterion are computed including AIC, TIC, and a coupleof bootstrap estimator of the selection criterion are considered according to the way of resampling. It is shown that a closed form expression is available for the parametric bootstrap estimated cirterion. A Monte Carlo study is provided to give a formal comparison when the operating family itself is normally distributed.

  • This study is concerned with the thermo-biscoplastic finite element analysis of hot tube extrusion through square dies with a mandrel. The problem is treated as a non-steady state and the ALE description is used due to abruptly turning flow at the die aperture. Since the contact heat transfer coefficient and the friction factor are required in the analysis experiments are also carried out to determine the values, In order to apply ceramics to an extrusion die the study is focussed on under-standing the characteristics of the process. The simulated results provide the useful informations such as metal flow temperature distribution stress state etc. The elastic analysis of the dies is carried out to obtain the stress state of the ceramic dies.

  • A study on the fluid flow with ultrasonic forcing is carried out to obtain data for the turbulence enhancement. A large water tank is made of the transparent acrylic plates and a horizontal flow field is given by setting two acrylic tubes to face mutually on a horizontal line. A 2-dimensional PlV system which is composed of a continuous-output 4W Argon-ion laser, a high-speed video camera, a PC based by an image grabber and a high resolution monitor is used to investigate characteristics of the complex turbulence flow field. And a 2MHz ultrasonic transducer is used fur ultrasonic vibration forcing. Some experiments are carried out at Reynolds numbers of 2,000 and 4,000 and at 7 angles of ultrasonic incidence. In results, the flew velocity vector distribution, kinetic energy and turbulence intensity in both cases of with and without ultrasonic forcing are examined, compared and discussed by using PIV measurement. It is clarified that the ultrasonic forcing into flow field is valid to obtain the turbulence enhancement.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of energy transport using capillary pumped loop with PVA sponge wick. The results obtained from this study are as follows. The configuration of capillary pumped loop was adequate and PVA sponge was of great use for the manufacture of capillary pump. The energy transport reached maximum when the working fluid amount was 750cc the wall temperature distribution indicated high values through out the entire length of the pipe. As the opening of a nozzle was increased, energy transport was increased but the effect was decreased.

  • CFD calculations are carried out to investigate the turbulent flow characteristics inside the duct of marine waterjet propulsors. The Reynolds-averaged Wavier-Stokes equations are solved using a finite-volume method. Standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model and realizable $k-{\varepsilon}$ model are evaluated with an existing experimental data. Multi-block grid topology is adopted to describe the details of complex duct geometry. The present numerical methods are applied to the preliminary duct design of new waterjet propulsor system. Four different influx conditions are simulated to find out pressure and velocity distribution inside the intake duct. Attention is also paid upon the possible flow separation inside the waterjet duct. It is found that CFD tools can be used for the initial evaluation of inflow condition into the impeller of waterjet propulsor system.

  • A stable algorithm for computing the fundamental matrix (I-Q)$^{-1}$ of a Markov chain is proposed, where Q is a substochastic matrix. The proposed algorithm utilizes the GTH algorithm (Grassmann, Taskar and Heyman, 1985) which is turned out to be stable for finding the steady state distribution of a finite Markov chain. Our algorithm involves no subtractions and therefore loss of significant digits due to concellation is ruled out completely while Gaussian elimination involves subtractions and thus may lead to loss of accuracy due to cancellation. We present numerical evidence to show that our algorithm achieves higher accuracy than the ordinagy Gaussian elimination.

  • Strength evaluation was carried out for the cylinder liner of a low-speed marine engine. Calculation of temperature distribution, nonlinear structural analysis, material test, and fatigue strength evaluation are briefly introduced in this paper. Strengths of five liner models are compared, and the effect of materials experiencing different heat treatment is evaluated. Structural analysis including boundary and material non-linearities was performed for axisymmetric liner models. High cycle (fatigue limit) and low cycle (fatigue life) fatigue analyses are carried out. As results, localized high stress was occurred next to the mount line. Maximum stresses are varied significantly with respect to different liner models and different materials.

  • We carried out 2-dimensional numerical calculations of electrostatic potential for triode field emitters with planar cathodes using the finite element method. As it turned out, the conventional triode structure with a planar cathode suffered from large gate current and wide spreading of emitted electrons. To circumvent these shortcomings, we proposed a new triode structure. By simply inserting a conducting layer of proper thickness on top of the cathode layer, we were able to modify the electric field distribution on the cathode surface so that low gate current and electron-focusing effect were achieved, simultaneously.

  • Degradation diagnosis of XLPE insulated URD cables was accomplished through out new method, which was to be analyzed by non-electrical experiments and synthesized by degradation points. To supplement this method, It was also carried out using several electrical analyses. Tan$\delta$ had commonly a different tendency by means of temperature and frequency and also appeared higher at the outer part rather than inner part of insulator. PD-q increased generally in proportion to the applied voltage and showed regular patterns in relation to the thickness of insulator Breakdown voltages were measured and breakdown lifetimes were predicted appling for Weibull distribution function.
