An accurate pedestrian-delay model is essential for the pedestrian-oriented evaluation of signalized intersection (SI). The crossing behaviors of pedestrians at signalized pedestrian crosswalks (SPCs) are various, and their arrival behaviors consist of two types, random and platoon. It is natural, hence, that the behaviors of pedestrian crossing and arrival should be considered in order to estimate accurate pedestrian delay. Despite this necessity, a simple pedestrian-delay model that cannot explain these behaviors of pedestrian movements is still recommended in Highway Capacity Manual (HCM). For these reasons, a pedestrian-delay model, suitable for various SPCs and SIs, is required to make pedestrian-oriented decisions on the design and operation of various SPCs and SIs. This paper proposes a novel pedestrian-delay model that is based on the behaviors of pedestrian crossing and arrival. The proposed model consists of two sub models: the one for SPC and the other for SI. The SPC delay model was developed based on the behaviors of pedestrian crossing during pedestrian green time. The SI delay model was designed based on the behaviors of pedestrian crossing and platoon arrival. The results of a numerical simulation showed that the proposed delay model can successfully overcome the under- and overestimation problems of the HCM model with explaining various behaviors of pedestrian crossing and arrival.
The purpose of this study was to compare the anthropometry, nutrient intakes, dietary - related behaviors and health - related behaviors of male workers that were divided according to their alcohol consumption. The mean height, weight and BMI of all subjects were 172.0$\pm$5.8 cm, 67.8$\pm$9.3 kg and 22.9$\pm$2.6 kg/$m^2$, respectively. The WHR was higher in the heavy drinking group than in the other groups(p<0.01), while the other anthropometric indices were not significantly different among the three groups. The calorie intake was highest(p<0.001) in the heavy drinking group(3,270.4$\pm$686.5 kcal), followed by moderate(2,602.8$\pm$415.8 kcal) drinking group and light drinking group(2,341.5$\pm$449.4 kcal). As alcohol consumption increased, there was a decrease in the percent of energy derived from carbohydrates and lipids, while there was an increase in the percent of energy derived from proteins and alcohol(p<0.001). The heavy and moderate drinking groups had a highers intake of protein compared to the light drinking group, and the heavy drinking group had a higher intake of lipid compared to the light and moderate drinking groups(p<0.01). The intakes of vitamin $B_2$, niacin and phosphorus were lower in the moderate group than the other groups(p<0.01). The average MAR(Mean adequacy ratio) was 1.44$\pm$0.35 and the intake of all nutrients, except for folic acid, was much higher than the Korean RI(Recommended intake). The fruit intake frequency and sleeping hours were the lowest in the heavy drinking group(p<0.05) and the subjects preferred the following order of food products when they drink: meat(42.5%), fish & shellfish(30.0%), fruit & vegetable(22.5%) and others(5.0%) as a side dish. The average rates of smoking and exercise for all the subjects were 77.5% and 67.5%, respectively. The results of this study showed that heavy alcohol drinkers were more prone to abdominal obesity and related chronic degenerative diseases, indicating the need for extensive nutritional education for heavy alcohol drinkers.
The current study aimed to analyze data conducting a survey with 211 females in Ulsan Gyeongnam province in order to understand what influence lifestyle types of female customers exert on eating-out behaviors from the perspective of eating-out motivation. So as to achieve research purpose, we conducted factor analysis, reliability analysis, t-test, ANOVA analysis, multiple regression analysis, correlation analysis and frequency analysis through SPSS 12.0 program. Findings of analyses indicated that items of lifestyle involve d 4 factors, and the item of eating out behaviors was extracted to be 1 factor. As a result of testing differences in lifestyle depending on residential areas, both type of chasing fashion and type of extroverted dependence have significant differences in variables, and both factors indicated that females living in Ulsan have higher mean values than those of females living in Gyeongnam. As a result of analyzing lifestyle depending on age, which was adopted in part, females at the ages of 31~40 had higher mean values than those in other ages in the type of chasing fashion, and females above the age of 51 had higher mean values than those in other ages in type of chasing health. As a result of lifestyle depending on academic backgrounds, university students or graduates had higher mean values than those in other academic backgrounds. For the influence of lifestyle types on eating-out behaviors depending on eating-out motivation, the type of chasing fashion, the type of purchasing the quality of life, and the type of chasing health were p<0.001, having significant effects.
This paper propose the inference mechanism for handling linear polynomial constraints called consistency checking algorithm based on the feasibility checking algorithm borrowed from linear pro-gramming. in contrast with other approaches proposed algorithm can efficiently and coherented by linear polynomial forms. The developed algorithm is successfully applied to the symbolic simulation that offers a convenient means to conduct multiple simultaneous exploration of model behaviors.

Objectives : This study was conducted to examine the smoking behaviors and the relationship between smoking and other health behaviors among medical students. Methods : A self-administrated questionnaire was administered to a sample of 1,775 students from four medical schools between April and May 2003. Due to the small number of female smokers, the characteristics of smoking behaviors were analyzed only for males. Results : A total of 1,367 students (920 males and 447 females) completed the questionnaires, with an overall response rate of 77.7%. The smoking rates for males and females were 31.5, and 2.2%, respectively. Among the male smokers, 70.7% smoked daily, and 39.0% smoked one pack or more per day. Male students on medical course were more likely to smoke daily, and one pack or more per day, than those on premedical course. Male daily smokers desired to quit smoking less than occasional smokers, and 65.0% of male daily smokers were not ready to quit compared with 37.8% of the occasional smokers. Among the male daily smokers, 29.6% were severely nicotine dependent. The most common reason for not to quit smoking among male smokers was 'no alternative stress coping method' (44.4%), followed by 'lack of will power' (25.4%), and 'no need to quit' (19.4%). Compared with male non-smokers, male smokers were more likely to drink alcohol more often and in larger amounts, take coffee more often, eat breakfast less regularly, and be overweight or obese. Conclusions : The results of this study suggest that many male medical students were serious smokers, especially those on medical course. It is necessary to install a smoking prevention program for pre-medical students, provide effective smoking cessation methods for smokers, teach positive stress coping methods, and make the school environment suitable for coping with stress.

Since the economic crisis in 1997, the number of low income families has increased and the turmoil is likely to affect nutritional and health status of the children in low-income families. The purpose of this study was to investigate dietary behaviors and physical development of low income family children in the Seoul area. The subjects were 44 boys and 56 girls, between the ages of 7 and 12 years, from the beneficiary families of the governmental assistant program and enrolled in after school-care centers. A self-reported questionnaire, including general characteristics and dietary behaviors, was applied to the children and their parents. Skipping meal rate was higher in breakfast than in lunch or dinner, and was less frequent in parents and children families compared to that of the other types of families (p<0.05). Most students are shown that they usually keep the dietary guideline for Korean children. There were significant differences in keeping the dietary guidelines between the parents and children family group and other groups in several items. The results imply that the nutrition education program should be more focused on the families which are not composed of parents and children.
In order to evaluate the erects of regular health education by a school nurse on a child's health-related knowledge and health-related behavior, a questionnaire survey was conducted with primary school students (4th, 5th, 6th grade) from December 5 to December 15, 1998. Subjects of the study were composed of two groups; one group who had regular health education by a school nurse and the other group who had no regular health education by a school nurse. The results obtained from the data analysis were as follows: 1. There was no significant difference in general characteristics between broth groups, but significant difference in parent-related characteristics and health-related characteristics were detected. 2. The health-related knowledge score was 21.98 in the regular health education group and 21.04 in the control group. There was significant differences between both groups (p<0.05). 3. Significant differences in the practice of health-related behaviors were detected between both groups (p<0.05). 4. The variables associated with the practice of health-related behaviors were regular health education, health-related knowledge, the education level of the mother, ignorance of health and parent's concern about the child's health (p<0.05). 5. The practice of regular health education was significantly related to the prevention of communicable disease, concern about health and total health behavior (p<0.05). From the above results, it can be concluded that there is a positive relationship between regular health education and the practice of health-related behavior after controlling other variables. According to the results, suggestions are as follows; 1. Evaluation of health-related knowledge and behaviors be conducted by the school nurse on pre and post-education. 2. The primary school student can be educated about health by the school nurse.
The Purpose of this study were 1) to find out the characteristics of health promoting Ii festyles of the study samples, 2) to determine the relationships of physical health and mental health, 3) to determine the relationships of health promoting lifestyles and health status. The health promotion model was tested with a volunteer sample of 141 female students in a university in Seoul. The health promoting lifestyle was measured by the scales developed by Walker and Pender(1987). Health status was measured by Cornell medical Index. Pearson's product moment correlations and stepwise multiple regression technique were used to analyze the data. The results are summarized as follows; 1. The items with the highest frequency of the subscales of health promoting lifestyle were 'look forward to the future' $(133,\;95.0\%)$ in self actualization, 'Enjoy being touched and touching people close to me' $(122,\; 87.14\%)$ in relationships with others. The strongest correlation was between general competence In self care and nutritional practice(r=5388, P<. 0001). 2. Fatigability, frequency of illness, miscellaneous diseases, habit, mood and feeling patterns were predictive of mental health. 3. Total health promoting lifestyles explained $14\%$ of the variance for health status. Relationships with others explained $20.9\%$ of the variance for health status. In conclusion, because the most variance explained was $420.9\%$, there must be other variables not accounted for by the model. that influence health promoting behaviors. Psychological factors accounted for more variance than other factors. Intervention studies focused on psychological factors as a means of altering behaviors have great potential for the design of interventions to increase health promoting behaviors. Further testing of the model with this population should be done.
This paper aims to develop the art programs supporting prosocial behaviors of young children from multicultural and typical Korean families. On the basis of the survey results and literature review, art activities were planned. And the program was executed amongst young children from multicultural and typical Korean families to test the applicability of the program. The young children in the program showed either positive attitudes or conflicts with their peer group at the beginning. As the program continued, young children were gradually harmonized, yielding to each other and were negotiating. During the last stage of the program, young children from multicultural and typical Korean families demonstrated prosocial behaviors of sharing, helping, and cooperating with each other. These kinds of results prove that the art programs are helpful in promoting prosocial behavior among young children from multicultural and typical Korean families. Therefore, it appears that an educational institute in which young children from multicultural families are taught would be able to support prosocial behavior for young children from multicultural and typical Korean families using this program.
Objectives: Although Asian immigrants have lower rates of smoking and binge drinking than other ethnics in the US, Korean Americans have the highest rate of Asian immigrants. This study, therefore, compared with the rates and examined the predictors of smoking and binge drinking by gender and ethnicity among Asian immigrants in California. Methods: In 2001 and 2003, California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) were conducted in English and their original languages with Asian immigrants residing in 58 Counties and 3 Cities, California. We performed analysis to find out the differences of smoking and binge drinking rates using the secondary data, CHIS 2001 and 2003. Multiple logistic regression analysis for survey data identified predictors of smoking and binge drinking behaviors by gender and ethnicity. Results: Korean American males (35.4%) and Japanese American females (15.4%) had higher rates of smoking prevalence compared with other Asian immigrants in California. In binge drinking, 26.5% of male and 8.1% of female among Korean Americans were binge drinker, and the rates were the top with Asian Americans who had lived in California. It showed the remarkable gap between gender of smoking and binge drinking among Vietnamese immigrants, whereas not the striking difference among Japanese Americans. In multiple regression models, age, educational level, occupation, marital status, English proficiency, and health insurance coverage remained significant for smoking and binge drinking behaviors(P<0.05). Even though the time in the US was not significant, it seemed to be related to educational level and English proficiency. In particular among female, smoking and binge drinking behaviors were associated with acculturation. Conclusion: Although Asian Americans had shared with American culture since they had immigrated in the US, they had significantly different prevalence rates of smoking and binge drinking based on gender and ethnicity. Therefore, future efforts should be focused on understanding differences by ethnicity and target at high-risk subgroups. To achieve this, it needs to develop the educational materials in Korean and their original languages.
