  • In this paper, we propose a new transmit diversity scheme using window functions in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. Transmit diversity of the scheme is varied with window functions and the condition of the window function to maximize transmit diversity is derived. The proposed scheme can be considered as a generalization of the diversity schemes such as cyclic delay diversity (CDD), orthogonal transmit diversity (OTD), and frequency switched transmit diversity (FSTD).

  • This paper proposes a new polarization diversity scheme for OPFDM (Orthogonal Polarization and Frequency Division Multiplexing). OPFDM is an extension of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) in conjunction with polarization multiplexing in order to ensure the orthogonality amongst subcarriers. Since OPFDM uses two orthogonally polarized channels, it can easily employ the polarization diversity. In order to get the diversity gain effectively in a frequency selective fading channel, the proposed scheme combines the signals in subcarrier-by-subcarrier basis. The computer simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme is superior to conventional one in the two orthogonally polarized two-ray Rayleigh fading channels with cross-talk between the two channels.

  • In this paper, we analyze a SFBC-OFDM(Space Frequency Block Code-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system with antenna selection method using pilot symbols. An antenna selection criterion is based on channel coefficients estimated from pilot symbols. At each frequency, the channel coefficients is arranged and the best is selected, and then data is sent to those antenna with the best coefficients. Also, The coding and diversity gain of the proposed system are analyzed.

  • This paper proposes a frequency offset estimation scheme with low-complexity for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based cognitive radio (CR) systems. The proposed scheme is applicable to any type of training symbol and has a lower complexity than the scheme in [9] by using the partial periodogram. Simulation results show that the estimation performance of the proposed scheme is almost the same as that of the scheme in [9].

  • The research domain of underwater communication has garnered much interest among researchers exploring underwater activities. The underwater environment differs from the terrestrial setting. Some of the main challenges in underwater communication are limited bandwidth, low data rate, propagation delay, and high bit error rate (BER). As such, this study assessed the underwater acoustic (UWA) aspect and explored the expression of error performance based on t-distribution noise. Filter orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing refers to a new waveform candidate that has been adopted in UWA, along with turbo and polar codes. The empirical outcomes demonstrated that the noise did not adhere to Gaussian distribution, whereas the simulation results revealed that the filter applied in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing could significantly suppress out-of-band emission. Additionally, the performance of the turbo code was superior to that of the polar code by 2 dB at BER 10-3.

  • In this paper, we propose a new turbo-coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission scheme that can improve greatly the performance by making all the turbo-coded symbols have the same reliability for OFDM transmission over a frequency selective fading channel. The same reliability, that is, the same fading can be accomplished through multiplexing of turbo-coded symbols using distinct orthogonal codes and spreading over the whole effective subcarriers (hereafter, called as the orthogonal code multiplexing (OCM)). As for the orthogonal code selection, we choose the set of the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) basis sequences, since the code set holds the orthogonality irrespective of the length and also has the equal energy property. We perform computer simulations using the Log-maximum-a-posteriori (Log-MAP) algorithm for iterative decoding in order to assess the performance of the proposed transmission scheme.

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and multiple input multiple output (MIMO) technologies provide additional dimensions of freedom with spectral and spatial resources for radio resource management. Multi-dimensional radio resource management has recently been identified to exploit the full dimensions of freedom for more flexible and efficient utilization of scarce radio spectrum while provide diverse quality of service (QoS) guarantees. In this work, a multi-dimensional radio resource scheduling scheme is proposed to achieve above goals in hybrid orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) and space division multiple access (SDMA) systems. Cochannel interference (CCI) introduced by frequency reuse under SDMA is eliminated by frequency division and time division between highly interfered users. This scheme maximizes system throughput subjected to the minimum data rate guarantee. for heterogeneous users and transmit power constraint. By numerical examples, system throughput and fairness superiority of the our scheduling scheme are verified.

  • In this paper, a new orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with 3-dimensional (3-D) signal mapper is proposed. Here, the signal mapper consists of signals on the surface of Poincare sphere. If the signal points are uniformly distributed and normalized to have the same average power, the minimum Euclidean distance of a 3-D constellation is much larger than that of a 2-D constellation. Computer simulation shows that the proposed OFDM has much improved error performance as compared with the conventional system.
