The Bigyeokjincheolloe (bomb shell), a scientific cultural heritage, has outstanding historical value for sustaining a gunpowder weapon of Joseon. In this study, the bomb shell was modeled through three-dimensional (3D) scanning centered on the external shape and 𝛾-ray radiography-based on the internal shape. In particular, to improve the contrast in the radiographic image, optimization and image processing were performed. After these processes, the thickness of the inner wall (2.5 cm on average) and the positions of the three mold chaplets were clearly revealed. For exhibition purposes, the 3D model of the bomb shell was output to a 3D printer and the output was rendered realistic by coloring. In addition, the internal functional elements, such as Mokgok, fuse, mud, gunpowder, and caltrops, were reproduced through handwork. The results will contribute to the study of digital heritages in two ways. First, the internal and external shapes of the bomb shell were modeled by fusing two different technologies, namely, 3D scanning and 𝛾-ray radiography. Second, the internal shape of the bomb shell was constructed from the original form data and the reproduction was utilized for museum exhibitions. The developed modeling approach will greatly expand the scope of museum exhibitions, from those centered on historical content to those centered on scientific content.

Grain size analysis is the most basic procedure for identifying the origin, transport and sedimentation processes of sediments, and is widely used in geomorphology and sedimentology. Traditionally, grain size was determined by a sieve-pippette method, but the use of automated analyzers is increasing in recent years. These analyzers have many advantages over traditional techniques, but the measurement results are not always the same. It is still difficult to solve the pretreatment problem such as incomplete diffusion and residual organic matter, and inappropriate results may be obtained. This study compared image-based grain size analysis and sieve analysis to verify its statistical reliability, and conducted experiments to enhance the measurement accuracy using shape parameters. The results showed that the image-based analysis overestimated the grain size of sand dunes by about 7% compared to the sieve analysis, but the two measurements were not statistically different. In addition, by using shape parameters, such as aspect ratio, sphericity, and convexity, improved statistics were obtained compared to the original data. Using the morphological properties of the individual grains is a complementary method to the incomplete pretreatment of the grain size analysis process, and at the same time, it will contribute to improving the accuracy and reliability of the results.

The purpose of this study is to analyze and interpret the ponds appeared in the Korean traditional temples. Summarized findings are as follows: First, it appeared that the location of ponds of the Korean traditional temples is, in general, in both the entry space and transitional space of temple. And it is considered that such configurations of the location of ponds were done intentionally in order that the ponds should have a significance as same as the concept that a natural mountain stream separates the sacred place and the secular world. Second, since the size of the ponds appeared in the temples are considered to be what is transformed from the original one, it is hard to understand the real size. However, it is judged that since ponds we see at present played an element of the total space of a temple it is deemed that no significant change of the size of ponds have happened if the size of the structure a temple itself has ever changed. Third, it appeared that the forms of the temple's ponds are diversified in a square, oval, egg-shaped one, round shape(circle), natural shape, etc. and it is identified that most of the ponds inspected for this study appeared to be in shapes of an oval, egg-shaped one, and round shape which take a typical curve. Fourth, regarding the temples whose origins are from the Baekje dynasty or Shilla dynasty among the objects of this case study, there appear some uniform styles for each temple respectively. For example, in both the Junglim Temple's twin pond(定林寺 雙池) and the Mireuk Temple's twin pond(彌勒寺 雙池) which were built in the Baekje dynasty appears a twin-pond in a square shape, and in the Bulkuk temple(佛國寺), Haein temple(海印寺), Tongdo temple(通度寺), etc. which were built in the Silla dynasty appears the ponds in an egg-shape one. Fifth, regarding the function of the ponds appeared in the temples, the ponds are characterized with a lotus pond(蓮池), reflecting pond(影池), and pond complex(蓮 . 影池). In consideration of the 20 ponds in the 15 places of this study's object, there are 8 lotus ponds(蓮池), 6 reflecting ponds(影池), and 6 ponds complex(蓮 . 影池).
The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of the blade shape on the impeller performance, for design optimizing of the high airflow impeller. First, the quantity, angle, and length of blades, which are considered to have a large influence on the impeller performance, were selected as design variables. Then, 27 cases of impeller shapes were selected according to the design of experiment (DOE). To predict the conduct of the blower based on the selected impeller shape, flow analysis was performed using the immersed solid method of ANSYS CFX. In the CFD results, the highest airflow was expected in the impeller having a combination of 50 EA, $6^{\circ}$ and 5 mm. Finally, a blower with the original impeller shape and the optimized impeller shape was fabricated using a 3D printer, and the analysis tendency and experimental tendency were verified through experiments.
The following research of the road network of Jeju-Eupseong during Daehan Empire period has a twofold purpose: to study some characteristics of the road network at that time; and, to restore it to the original form of that period before a newly constructed road, called Shinjakro, has been established. As an attempt to trace the old shape of Jeju-Eupseong, this study analyzed some historical factors based on the first land cadastral map which was made in 1914, including outskirts of Jeju-Eupseong; such as castle itself, castle gate, road, bridge, lots of land, etc. Then this study also tried to restore the old road network of Jeju-Eupseong, through finding the original land-lot shape in the land cadastral map. There was five Shinjakro made between 1914 and 1917. The road network before then was composed of the double east-west axes and the single north-south axis. These axes was connected to some important place of the inside of Jeju-Eupseong; such as castle gates, fountains, Gaek-sa, etc. There were many branch lines between these main axes at about 80-120m intervals. Also there was an outer road along the outer wall of castle, connected with each castle gates. Especially, the north-west axis was the baseline which divided into two large parts, a government office area and non-government area (housing and commercial street for the people). Finally, this paper examines that the road network of Jeju-Eupseong was the true result for the efficient function of the city, especially considering natural geographical conditions and environment of living of that time.
Conservation treatments were done for the gilt bronze saddle accessory excavated from Tomb No. 89 in Kyo-dong, Changnyong in Japanese rule period. The saddle accessory, broken into numerous pieces, was mixed with other remains. Principal aims of conservation treatments were to recover original shape of object and stabilize its material. In the process of treatments manufacturing technique of the remain was examined minutely. Thick layers of corrosion substances were peeled off and numerous pieces were pasted together to restore the original shape. And then the saddle accessory was mounted on an acrylic board to be handled and exhibited safely. In this process, it was confirmed that various ancient techniques of metalic crafts such as amalgam gilding, riveting, piercing, line engraving, stamping, chasing etc. had been used to make the saddle accessory.
Design of velocity-compounded turbine for 75ton class LRE turbopump application and pressure compounded turbine for 30ton class LRE turbopump has been performed. 1D calculation and CFD analysis were conducted in determining blade and flow passage shape of velocity compounded turbine iteratively. Finally, 23.1% improved specific power and 5% reduced weight turbine to the original design was developed. In case of pressure-compounded supersonic turbine design, rotational speed was increased by 50% and the effect of carryover ratio, 2nd nozzle installation angle, leakage flow of 2nd nozzle, and work sharing factor was studied. Final 1D design resulted 36% increased specific power and 51% reduced weight comparing to the original single-row impulse turbine. It is anticipated that nozzle flow path design will be very important for the accomplishment of expected performance of pressure-compounded turbine and nozzle shape optimization will be conducted through the CFD analysis.

Some investigators who have tried to achieve the highly smooth surface finish using electrochemical processes have reported that high current density produced lustrous surfaces while the opposite conditions produced a passive layer and had a tendency to produce a black surface. However, processing at a low current density may produce a non-lustrous surface but the improvement of dimensional accuracy of the surface is significant. The surface with pulse process was a bit more lustrous than with continuous current but the black passive layer still could be found at grooved surface. There are two ways to achieve highly smooth surface finish. One is brushing it with a brush the other is electrochemical machining (ECM) with high current. The former method is the most common polishing practice, but not only may the surface obtained differ from operator to operator, but precision smooth surface on micro grooves are difficult to obtain. The latter one recently has been used to produce a highly smooth surface after EDM process. However, the material removal rate in ECM with high current is relatively high. Hence the original shape of the micro grooves, which was formed by electrochemical micro-machining (EMM) process, may be destroyed. In this study, an electrochemical polishing process using pulse current is adopted as a possible alternative process when micro grooves formed by EMM process should be polished. Mirror-like micro grooves with lustrous and smooth surface can be produced electrochemically with pulse current because the voltage and current used can be lower than the case of continuous current. This study will discuss the accurate control of physical and electrical conditions so as to achieve mirror-like micro grooves with lustrous and smooth surface without destroying the original shape of micro grooves.

In this paper, a new type of written image segmentation based on relative comparison of region areas is proposed. The original image is composed of two distinctive regions; information and background. Compared with this binary original image, the observed one is the gray scale which is represented with complex regions with speckles and noise due to degradation or contamination. For applying threshold or statistical approach, there occurs the region-deformation problem in the process of binarization. At first step, the efficient iterated conditional mode (ICM) which takes the lozenge type block is used for regions formation into the binary image. Secondly the information region is estimated through selecting action and restored its primary state. Not only decision of the attachment to a region but also the calculation of the magnitude of its area are carried on at each current pixel iteratively. All region areas are sorted into a set and selected through the decision parameter which is obtained statistically. Our experiments show that these approaches are effective on ink-rubbed copy image (拓本 'Takbon') and efficient at shape restoration. Experiments on gray scale image show promising shape extraction results, comparing with the threshold-segmentation and conventional ICM method.

Most of the 3D object reconstruction techniques divide the object into multiplane and approximate the
surfaces of the object. The Marching Cubes Algorithm which initializes the mesh structure using a given
isovalue. and Delaunay Tetrahedrisation are widely used. Deformable models are well-suited for general
object reconstruction because they make little assumptions about the shape to recover and they can reconstruct
objects *om various types of datasets. Now, many researchers are studying the reconstruction systems based
on a deformable model. In this paper, we propose a novel method for reconstruction of 3D objects. This
method, for a 3D object composed of curved planes, compresses the 3D object based on the adaptive simplexmesh
technique. It changes the pre-defined mesh structure, so that it may approach to the original object. Also,
we redefine the geometric characteristics such as curvatures. As results of simulations, we show reconstruction
of the original object with high compression and concentration of vertices towards parts of high curvature in
order to optimize the shape description.
