Objectives : This study was performed to evaluate the effects of oriental medical treatments and Chuna treatment on patients with pain and limited range of motion(LOM) about shoulder subsequent to scapular fracture. Methods : Two patients suffered from pain and LOM about shoulder after scapular fracture, one is scapular body fracture with multiple rib fractures, the other is only intraglenoid fracture were treated with Chuna therapy, acupuncture, herbal medicine, physical therapy and measured by VNRS(Verbal numerical rating scale) and ROM (Range of motion). Results : After oriental medical treatments and Chuna treatment, we found out a recovery from two patients suffered from pain and LOM about shoulder subsequent to scapular fracture. Conclusions : Through this study, we suggest that oriental medical treatments and Chuna treatment were effective to cure patients with pain and LOM subsequent to scapular fracture.

Objectives : This study was designed to research the effect of oriental treatments for Hwabyung with Blepharoptosis. Methods : A 51 year-old female patient has been suffered by Hwabyung for 5 months and by Blepharoptosis for 2 weeks. We treated the patient with Herbal medication, oriental psychotherapy and acupuncture. Results : As a result of oriental treatments, Blepharoptosis was disappeared, and the symptoms of Hwabyung was improved gradually. Conclusions : These result suggest that oriental treatments have an effect on Hwabyung with Blepharoptosis.

Objectives : The object of this study is to report a clinical effect of oriental medical treatments with chuna for foot drop caused by herniated intervertbral lumbar disc. Methods : The patient was diagnosed as lumbar bulging disc, and was treated by lumbar traction technique with other conservative treatments including acupunture herbal mixture. And we measured Visual Analog Score(VAS), Modified Bathel Index(MBI), Nurick's Classification, Range of movement of ankle joint. Results : After treatments, Visual Analog Score, Modified Bathel Index, Nurick's Classification, Range of movement of ankle joint were improved in case. Conclusion : Oriental medical treatments with Chuna manual therapy were associated with improvement of foot drop by herniated intervertbral lumbar disc.

1) Objective External treatments have various curative effects. So it had been used to cure various patients. But, it has a limited sphere of application in the present South Korea. And the ${\ulcorner}$Li-Yao-Pian-Won${\lrcorner}$ had been written by Wu-Shang-Xian(吳尙先) in 1864. The book is the first technical book of external treatments. So, he has been held in respected as the father of external treatments by many people. Therefore we would like to bring out it’s external treatments theory 2) Conclusions Wu-Shang-Xian(吳尙先) had insisted that external treatments principles are identical with internal treatments. So, prescriptions of external treatment are selected and made by principles of internal treatment. (1) The factors of determination external treatment’s methods are focus (meridian, inside and outside etc.), attribute of diseases, patient’s liking. (2) The treatment regions are decided by meridian theory, diseases region and external treatment’s methods.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to show the clinical effects of integrative oriental medical treatments for femur pain and disfunction after hip fracture surgery. Methods : Two patients were treated using acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medication and other oriental medical treatments include moxibustion, cupping therapy, physical rehabilitation for 2~3 months. And the effects of these integrative treatments were measured with numeric rating scale(NRS) and functional recovery score(FRS). Results : NRS of femur pain was decreased from 8 to 4~5 in case 1 and from 6 to 4 in case 2. FRS was improved in both cases. Conclusions : Integrative oriental medical treatments maybe effective to the patients complaining pain and functional limitations after hip fracture surgery.

Objectives : Jeon-Jeung(癲證) is one of negative symptoms from schizophrenia in Western medecine, which causes flattening of affect, emotional bluntness, and avolition. Compared with positive symptoms of schizophrenia, there is no established treatments that have been proved to be effective for negative symptoms, and since negative symptoms are chronically processed, they finally lead to devastate the mental health. Since Jeon-Jeung(癲證) is usually in set in adolescent period and tends to become chronic through life time, it is important to start getting treatments in early stage by being distinguished from other diseases, such as anxiety disorder. A patient in this case was affective blunting, general weakness, and delusion when sixteen years old. However, he refused to get Western medicine treatment and wanted oriental medicine treatment. Methods : The patient in this case had been suffered from severe stress from his family since he was young and had kept having irregular and unhealthy eating habits. Therefore, he diagnosed stagnant qi transforming into fire(氣鬱化火), heart blood deficiency(心血虛), and spleen-stomach deficiency cold(脾胃虛寒) and since then he had received several treatments including herbal treatment, acupumcture treatment, supportive therapy, and family therapy. These treatments were successful and reduced the level of symptoms. After discharged from the hospital, he had continued receiving outpatient treatment with his family for 8 months and his progress had been still observed after the discharge. Results : The symptoms of patient had been almost reduced and eliminated after he received 29days of admission treatment and the patient got better and better and now lives a normal life 8 months outpatient treatment. Conclusions : This result suggests that our oriental medical treatments and family treatments was effective on schizophrenia.

Objectives : The purpose of this research is to study the effect of Ginger-Herbal acupuncture on shoulder pain of cerebral paralytic patients. Methods : 53 person were selected among patients hospitalized in Dong-eui Oriental medical hospital from 1st, May, 2005 to 1st, Oct, 2005. They were divided into two groups, i.e acupuncture group and ginger-herbal acupuncture group. For 2 weeks, 22 patients were treated by ginger-herbal acupuncture treatments and 31 patients were treated by only acupuncture treatments. Research tools are Visual Analogue Scale by Cline et al. for measuring the severity of shoulder pain, and measured Range of Movement of shoulder joint Results : The ginger-herbal acupuncture treatments group showed significant pain decrease while acupuncture treatments group showed pain decrease. The range of shoulder movement was not significantly improved in both 2 groups. Conclusion : Based on the above results, it can be determined that ginger-herbal acupuncture therapy can be used as the effective treatments for reducing of shoulder pain. But more cases are to be studied in order to make more effective treatments in the case of shoulder pain of paralytic patients.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Boheo-tang Gagambang (BG) with acupuncture and moxa treatments on the after-effects of hysterectomy. Methods Three women who were undertaken a hysterectomy within a month were enrolled in this study. They complained of abdominal pain, low back pain, nausea, fatigue, etc. BG was prescribed 3 times a day and the acupuncture and moxa treatments were applied to decrease pain and improve the symptoms. Results After the acupuncture and moxa treatments with BG, symptoms were markedly decreased. Conclusions These clinical cases indicated that BG were effective in the treatments for patients who were undertaken a hysterectomy.

Objectives : In this case report, we will present a patient with dementia with Lewy bodies improved by application of oriental medical treatments. Methods : A 82 year-old female patient has been suffered by dementia with Lewy bodies for 7~8 years. We treated the patient with Herbal medication and acupuncture. The effects of treatment were measured by MMSE-K (Mini-Mental State Examination-K). Results : As a result of oriental treatments, the quality of sleep was improved, also the level of cognition was improved. Conclusions : These results suggest that oriental treatments have an effect on Dementia with Lewy bodies.

Fahr disease (FD) is a rare neurological disorder characterized by presence of abnormal and associated cell loss in certain areas of the brain, mostly in basal ganglia, thalamus, cerebellum and subcortical areas. Approximately two-thirds of the patients are symptomatic. The most common neurological manifestations include movement disorders, cognitive impairment, cerebellar signs and speech disorders. We report one case of estimated FD through brain computed tomography (bilateral calcifications of basal ganglia, thalamus, centrum semiovale, subcortical white matter of occipital lobes, cerebellum). At the first time of treatment, he complained of tremors in his upper limbs. We diagnosed the patient as deficiency of qi (氣) and movement of phlegm-heat-wind (痰熱風動) type according to symptoms and treated by herbs and acupuncture of oriental medicine. During treatments, we evaluated how well the oriental medical treatments were working using visual analogue scale (VAS) and amplitude of hands. After the oriental medical treatments about tremor, VAS dropped from 10 to 2 and amplitude of hands from 20 mm to 2 mm, but the ratio of brain calcifications was not changed. This study suggests that oriental medical treatments can be applicable to improve FD.
