  • In order to find out how SoGal was perceived in the Korean medical history and under what logic it was treated, the SoGal section of UiBangYuChi and DongUiBoGam were compared and examined. Through this process, the following could concluded. First of all, in UiBangYuChi's SoGal Section, mainly the fire/heat theory was adopted. In DongUiBoGam's SoGal Section, the lack of Bodily Liquids and Blood theory was selected. Secondly, in DongUiBoGam's SoGal Section, it went beyond UiBangYuChi's perspective of viewing all thirst caused by fire/heat as SoGal, and perceived SoGal as a state of thirst reached for the lack of Bodily Liquids and Blood. Lastly, UiBangYuChi's SoGal Section accepts the fire/heat theory, and heavily restricts the use of BuJa in PalMi, while DongUiBoGam's SoGal Section elucidates the use of BuJa when needed.

  • Objectives : Hyun-Ga therapy, a creative method that involves meridian pathways for isometric exercise, has displayed the possibility of treating and alleviating idiopathic scoliosis in terms of theory. The researcher explored current research trends and introduced Hyun-Ga therapy in which meridian pathways theory is applied. Methods : We examined theses and books of oriental or western medicine that cover idiopathic scoliosis. By doing these, we looked into the role of Hyun-Ga therapy towards the prevention and treatment of idiopathic scoliosis, and gained the following results. Results and Conclusions : Hyun-Ga therapy, the manual technique that has introduced the concept of silence and movement into rectifying the body through isometric exercise on meridian pathways in the limbs, can be practiced more easily than other conventional manual techniques. Hyun-Ga therapy based on meridian pathways theory is highly evaluated for its clinical insight on the structural and functional roles of meridian pathways. The theory of Hyun-Ga therapy, however, needs to be supported by more objective and sufficient complementary data. For this, continuing research and analysis are required in the future.

  • In the existing Medical Literatures in Korea and China, there is neither the same book name nor same contents of the Medical Book named ${\ulcorner}$Yoryak(要略)${\lrcorner}$, but in viewing of the different name as written as ${\ulcorner}$GyoinYoryak(敎人要略)${\lrcorner}$, it is considered that written as an unpublished manuscript-book for the purpose of Medical Education in the latter period of Chosun Dynasty. While the author, Songgyesanin(松溪散人) is even anonymous as yet, it is regarded that he was much familiar with medical science as a secluded ascetic aiming for Taoism-like Life In ${\ulcorner}$Yoryak${\lrcorner}$, the contents of Taoism Literature named as ${\ulcorner}$OjangYukbudo(五臟六腑圖)${\lrcorner}$ which was regarded that had been actually initiated since ${\ulcorner}$Euibangyoochui(醫方類聚)${\lrcorner}$ is being quoted thereat, also it attempts to combine with ${\ulcorner}$DonguiBogam(東醫寶鑑)${\lrcorner}$, the typical Medical Literature of Chosun Dynasty. With reference to Cause of Disease, since Chin Moo-Taek(陳無擇) asserted 'Theory of Three-Causes(三因說)' in his Book ${\ulcorner}$Samin Keukilbyungjeung Bangron(三因極一病證方論)${\lrcorner}$, it effects many influences to the coming generation, However, on coming up to ${\ulcorner}$Yoryak${\lrcorner}$, the medical science book of Chosun Dynasty, the 'Theory of Two-Causes(二因說)' which consisted of 'Internal Causes by Seven Emotions' and 'Exterior Causes by Six Harmful Surroundings' is also being asserted. In accordance with this Theory, it refers to the 'Seven Emotions(七情)' as the fundamental factor to possibly weaken the viscera and entrails, and also regards that the Exterior Harmful Surroundings invade to body when the viscera and entrails are under weakened condition. Therefore, since Cause of Disease naming as 'Cause Theory at Neither Interior Nor Exterior' is not tolerable in such Diagnostic System, it is daringly advocating the 'Two Causes Theory', getting free from the viewpoint of 'Three Causes Theory' that Chin Moo-Taek has ever maintained.

So, he has been held in respected as the father of external treatments by many people. Therefore we would like to bring out it’s external treatments theory 2) Conclusions Wu-Shang-Xian(吳尙先) had insisted that external treatments principles are identical with internal treatments. So, prescriptions of external treatment are selected and made by principles of internal treatment. (1) The factors of determination external treatment’s methods are focus (meridian, inside and outside etc.), attribute of diseases, patient’s liking. (2) The treatment regions are decided by meridian theory, diseases region and external treatment’s methods.

  • Objectives: The two criteria to clarify the toxicity of a herbal diet are well known. Although mechanical analysis of effective ingredients, a western approach, is widely used, the toxicity presence classification through the herbal analysis from a viewpoint of a theory of the herbal medicine properties has been disregarded. This study is for the safe use of a herbal diet through classification and study of toxicity presence in the herbal diet from the view of a theory of herbal medicine properties, one of the methods of Oriental Medicine. Methods: We classified and studied the toxicity presence in four kinds of herbal diets, waters and grains, animals groups, fruits and vegetables, and herbs and trees, excluding mineral natural drugs, of 1,400 kinds of medicines in 16 chapters of Tang-aec-pyeon, Dong-ui-bo-gam, for which the herbal analysis from a viewpoint of the theory of the herbal medicine properties has been used. The criteria of the toxicity presence in the herbal diet have been largely classified into the toxicant and the non-toxicant, and the toxicant is in turn classified into the insignificant, the medium and the significant. The category to clarify herbal diet has been limited to simultaneous utilization of food and natural drugs. The main text is Dong-ui-bo-gam, although diverse other references have also been used. Results: There are toxicant diets: a kind of tortoise meat of animals groups; five kinds of grains part in fruits and vegetables: aengdo, peach, oyat, small apple and gingko nut; and 12 kinds of vegetables part in fruits and vegetables: ginger, oriental cabbage, lettuce, chongbaek, onion, garlic, leek, fern, houttuynia cordata (myeol), pyeongji, geundae, and spinach, which should be prohibited from long-term use both as food and medicine. Conclusion: If herbal diet is used as health food supplements or food, the toxicity presence should be considered on the grounds of an Oriental Medicine theory of the herbal medicine properties.

  • According to the traditional Korean medicine (TKM), kidney has been recognized as the roof of innate endowment because it plays an important role in the birth, growth, sexual reproduction, and aging. Kidney essence insufficiency syndrome (KEIS) is caused when kidney is impaired. KEIS is characterized by retarded development, decreased reproduction, tinnitus, loosening of teeth, and loss of hair and forgetfulness. In traditional Chinese medicine, KEIS mouse model was established by use of threatinjuring the kidney combined with over-fatigue. However, the TKM theory-based KEIS experiment model has not been described correctly. In the present study, we suggest a new KEIS experiment model including following cases; 1) weakness of father essence and mother blood, 2) life nurturing during pregnancy, 3) full-term gestation period.

  • We study on the HYUN-GOG's main principles of Differentiation of Syndromes. HYUN-GOG insisted upon the main principles of Differentiation of Syndromes based on the individual-physiology. The system of Differentiation of Syndromes was composed of the Korean oriental medicine's physiological system. The main principles of Differentiation of Syndromes was mutually explained for the standpoint of eight principal syndromes(differentiation of pathological conditions in accordance with the eight principal syndromes) and the system of Syndrome-complexes based on the physiological system. BON-HER(original deficiency-syndrome), BON-HAN(original cold excess-syndrome), BON-YEOL(original heat excess-syndrome), the three representative syndrome-complexes is previously carried out the details of Differentiation of Syndromes. And the oriental medicine history was rearranged centering around the theory of Differentiation of Syndromes by HYUN-GOG. The theory of Syndrome-complexes was closely connected with prescription by the presentation of the basic organical prescription for the three representative syndrome-complexes.
