Objectives: Facial diagnosis is an important part of clinical diagnosis in traditional East Asian Medicine. In this paper, we proposed a model to quantitatively classify cold sensitivity using a fully automated facial image analysis system. Methods: We investigated cold sensitivity in 452 subjects. Cold sensitivity was determined using a questionnaire and the Cold Pattern Score (CPS) was used for analysis. Subjects with a CPS score below the first quartile (low CPS group) belonged to the cold non-sensitivity group, and subjects with a CPS score above the third quartile (high CPS group) belonged to the cold sensitivity group. After splitting the facial images into train/validation/test sets, the train and validation set were input into a convolutional neural network to learn the model, and then the classification accuracy was calculated for the test set. Results: The classification accuracy of the low CPS group and high CPS group using facial images in all subjects was 76.17%. The classification accuracy by sex was 69.91% for female and 62.86% for male. It is presumed that the deep learning model used facial color or facial shape to classify the low CPS group and the high CPS group, but it is difficult to specifically determine which feature was more important. Conclusions: The experimental results of this study showed that the low CPS group and the high CPS group can be classified with a modest level of accuracy using only facial images. There was a need to develop more advanced models to increase classification accuracy.

This study aimed to find out the difference of ordinary symptom according to Sasang Constitution and Gender. We collected 1241 subjects who had been diagnosed by the Sasang Constitution specialist and confirmed with Sasang Constitution drug response in the thirteen oriental hospitals. We researched ordinary symptoms through a paper and used Chi-square test to know association between items and Sasang constitution. There are significantly different items according to Sasang Constitutions statistically, which are "amount", "speed", "indigestion" and "appetite" in meal, "amount", "feeling after sweat" in sweat, "thickness" in feces, "foam" and "frequency" in urine, "sensitivity and hand, feet of part" in heat and cold" and "amount and habit" in drinking water". In male, "indigestion", "frequency in urine", "a lots of dream" and "hard to sleep" in Soeumin, "sweat in head and face" "foam of urine" and "warm of abdomen" in Taeeumin were different among Sasang Constitutions. In female, "sweat in chest" in Soeumin, "short time of feces" in Soyangin were different among Sasang Constitutions. From the above results, ordinary symptoms were different according to Sasang Constitutions. and in some part, there are also gender differences of Sasang Constitution.

Objectives: In order to establish a base for proper treatment and management of patients with dermal problems through correct diagnosis, I considered the naming rule for dermatology in Oriental Medicine, referring to the dermatology literature compared to western medicine. In addition, this paper examines the characteristic classification of dermatology. Methods: I examined the naming rule of dermatology in Oriental Medicine and then compared the disease names in Oriental and Western medicine and the characteristic classification of dermatology referred to the records. Results: The dermal diseases have been named according to their colors and morphologies, causes, progress of symptoms, recurrent sites, the character of distribution, recurrent seasons, ages, the character of patients' jobs and locations. Sometimes some have been named by referring to their main morphologies, sites, causes, colors and seasons synthetically. However it was found some names for dermal diseases, even though the same diseases, had been named differently according to for example: historical times, condition of locations and the quality of doctors whose process of naming developed and changed over time. The relationship between Oriental and Western medicine of each name for dermal diseases is basically divided into 5 types: same names - same diseases; same names but different diseases; same diseases but different names; one disease with multiple names; and one name with multiple diseases. Considering the methods of classification, these were generally achieved according to their places of origin. It is a method unique to Oriental medicine that we classified some dermal diseases into 疥, 癬, 瘡, 風, 丹, 疱, 疹, 癰, 痘, 疽 and so on and it is very easy to diagnose which part they belong to. This was classified by putting first the causes of diseases; for instance: viruses, bacteria, fungi. Sometimes, however there was a problem, connected to the classification of morphology. Conclusions: I suggest that we need to unify and refine dermatological terms in Oriental Medicine in order to establish a base for proper treatment and management of patients with dermal problems through correct diagnoses.

In this paper, we performed a quantitative analysis of face color according to the health status of four constitution types. 205 Korean male in age from 65 to 80 were participated in this study and 85 subjects were finally selected for the analysis. Imaging process techniques were employed to extract feature variables associated with face color from a frontal facial image. Using the extracted feature variables, the correlations between face color and health status, face color and health status in each constitution type, and face color and four constitution types in heath status group were investigated. As the result, it was observed that the face color of healthy group contained more red component and less blue component than unhealthy group. For each constitution type, the face parts showing a significant difference according to health status were different. This is the first work which reports the correlation between the face color and health status of four constitution types with a objective method, and the numerical data for the face color according to the health status of four constitution types will be an objective standard to diagnose a patient's health status.
Objective: It is the aim of the present paper to derive further studies evaluating the effectiveness of oriental medical treatment on SCLC patients. We present a case of SCLC patient who survives over 8 years. Method: We followed all of treatments and examination. We prescribed to the patient what to take HangAmDan (HAD) three times a day. Chest X-ray was performed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy. Results and conclusion: The patient survives over 8 years. Chest X-rays were shown partial regression. Conclusion: This case may give us a possibility of that oriental medical treatment offers potential benefits for patients with SCLC.
Objectives : In the clinical field, it is important to understand the factors that have effects on a certain disease or symptom. For this, many researchers apply Data Mining method to the clinical data that they have collected. One of the efficient methods for Data Mining is decision tree induction. Many researchers have studied to find the best split criteria of decision tree; however, various split criteria coexist. Methods : In this paper, we applied several split criteria(Information Gain, Gini Index, Chi-Square) to Sasang constitutional clinical information and compared each decision tree in order to find optimal split criteria. Results & Conclusion : We found BMI and body measurement factors are important factors to Sasang constitution by analyzing produced decision trees with different split measures. And the decision tree using information gain had the highest accuracy. However, the decision tree that produced highest accuracy is changed depending on given data. So, researcher have to try to find proper split criteria for given data by understanding attribute of the given data.
Insomnia is a temporary or continuous condition in which one has difficulty sleeping, due to physical impediments or physical problems. Because insomnia does harms to a labor power or imposes mental and physical burden on a patient, we should pay attention to this disease. This case is about a patient who was 62 years old man with a chronic insomnia since 1996, inspite of no past history about psychical disease. He had sufferred from a cerebral infarction and hypertension since March. 2002. and was hospitalized in Sangji University korean medicine hospital, 25. June. 2002. This patient had been treated by herb-med, Yanggyuksanhwatang for 4 weeks and showed an improvement. This paper describes the process and contents about the patient was cured.
Objectives : The purpose of this paper was to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of extract from Teucrium veronicoides (TV) on the RAW 264.7 cells. Methods : To evaluate of anti-inflammatory of TV, we examined the cytokine productions on lipopolysacchride (LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 cells and also inhibitory mechanisms using Western blot. Furthermore, We examined LPS-induced endotoxin shock. Results : 1. Extract from TV itself does not have any cytotoxic effect. 2. Extract from TV reduced LPS-induced Nitric oxide (NO),interleukin (IL)-1b, IL-6 and IL-10, tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a) production in RAW 264.7 cells. 3. TV inhibited the activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) such as p38, extracelluar signal-regulated kinase (ERK 1/2) and c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK) and also the degradation of inhibitory kappa B a (Ik-Ba) in the LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. 3. TV slightly increased the duration of survival after LPS-induced endotoxin shock. Conclusions : TV down-regulated LPS-induced NO and cytokines production, which could provide a clinical basis for anti-inflammatory properties of TV.
Objectives: Examine the difference of Chosun acupuncture from the acupuncture in Myung, Chung Dynasty Method: This paper examines the acupuncture mentioned in the classic of Introduction to Medicine For this, the special traits of Introduction to Medicine acupuncture was analyzed. Secondly, the research on the contents of Introduction to Medicine acupuncture quoted in the classic of Essential Rhymes of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Treasured Mirror of Eastern Medicine, and Experimental Prescriptions of Acupuncture and Moxibustion was carried out. Result: Introduction to Medicine put much importance on "method of acupuncture following the five circuits and six qi" (子午流注針法) and Song of Acupuncture and Moxibustion through comparing "eight methods of acupuncture following the five circuits and six qi" (子午八法) and "scattered needling method". The doctors in Chosun Dynasty, howevery, did not adopt this theory with their own standards on acupuncture. On the contrary, they put more importance on the inquiry of historical evidence on river point and extraordinary points. Conclusion: The acupuncture studies of Chosun Dynasty had already formed its own standards on the medical theories, and its direction to which it was headed was different from that of the Myung, and Chung Dynasty in China.
