Pediatric Chuna experts in Chung dynasty described treatments by symptoms systematically. 10. Pediatric Chuna experts in Chung dynasty, criticizing the trend at the time of despising pediatric Chuna, endeavored to spread pediatric Chuna. 11. Pediatric Chuna experts in Chung dynasty arranged the relationship between hand manipulation of Chuna and herbal medicine. 12. Pediatric Chuna experts in Chung dynasty arranged various kinds of methods for diagnosis, including diagnosis by palpation of the chest and the abdomen. 13. Pediatric Chuna experts in Chung dynasty combined the method of multiple hand manipulation and method of basic hand manipulation. 14. The theories of pediatric Chuna before Myung Chung dynasties only put emphasis on Ki and Blood, not combining with the basic principles of Korean medicine like Eum/Yang and Five Phases. Average age of the pediatric patients was 4.28 years old, and it has showed that 1 to 3 years old patients (36.7%) were the most common age. 2. The number of pediatric patients was increased in June. According to the weekly distribution data, the number of pediatric patients who had visited on Sunday was the most (29.1%). Also, the number of pediatric patients who had visited ER for 18 to 21 hours(35.6%) were the most common. 3. The major problems of hospitalization were digestive symptoms and nervous symptoms. The nervous symptoms were the most at infancy. The musculoskeletal symptoms were the most common in adolescence. The digestive symptoms were common in other stages of development. 4. The time interval between arrival and onset; within 6 hours were the most(48.0%). Acupuncture and herbal medication treatment(75.2%) were the most common medical treatments. Most of the pediatric patients(97.3%) were discharged after medical treatments. Conclusions: Pediatric patients who had visited emergency room at the oriental medical hospital were mostly not due to acute form of serious diseases. The most common disease states that have preferred to treat with oriental medicine were dyspepsia, crying, febrile fit, and ankle sprain. We have to introduce the excellence of oriental medicine, and we need to try to develop other treatments such as magnetic acupuncture, moxa therapy, aroma therapy and revitalize pediatric emergency care at oriental medical hospital.

The purpose of this study was to introduce the excellence of the Oriental medicine, to develop various treatments, and to revitalize pediatric emergency care at the oriental medical hospital. Methods The study was composed of 334 pediatric patients who had visited the emergency room of the ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ university oriental hospital from January 2011 to December 2013. Results 1. It has showed that between 7 to 12 years old patients (27.8%) were the most common age populations. 2. The number of pediatric patients was increased during February. According to the weekly distribution data, the number of pediatric patients who had visited on Sunday was the highest (28.7%). Also, the number of pediatric patients who had visited the ER between 21 to 24 hours (29.0%) was the highest. 3. The two major reasons for inpatient hospitalization were digestive and nerve-related symptoms. Nerve-related symptoms were the most common in infants while digestive symptoms were the most common in other child development stages. 4. The duration of time interval from the onset of symptoms to the ER visit was most commonly within 6 hours (50.3%). An acupuncture and herbal medication treatment (70.1%) were the most common medical treatments. The majority of the pediatric patients (95.5%) were discharged after their medical treatments. Conclusions A serious acute illness was not the most common reason for the ER visit among the pediatric patients. The most common disease states that have preferred to be treated with the oriental medicine were dyspepsia, crying, facial palsy, and ankle sprain. We have to introduce the excellence of the oriental medicine. • Objective : The purpose of this study is to analyze for the patent application tendency in Korean Oriental Pediatric Medicine. Recently, many studies are published in Korean Oriental Pediatric Medicine. However, in the patent area, the research results are few. Method : For patent analysis, we searched the database kipris (http://www.kipris.or.kr) which managed in the Korean Intellectual Property Office by keywords about Korean Oriental Pediatrics. They are technically analysed by year and IPC, patent's contents, main applicant and organization. Results : 1. Patents by year have been on the rise 2 in 1997 to 32 in 2011. 2. Our findings are Section A61;182, A23;46 in IPC analysis 3. In classification of content, 'application-food' is 67 cases, 'application-functional cosmetic' is 18 cases, 'application-clothes' is 5 cases. 4. Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine have 14 patent cases, that is the most patent agency in possession. Main applicants are person > company > university > laboratory > state or local government. Conclusion : This study shows that it has high frequency of daily necessity in patent cases about oriental pediatrics. The results are more distributed 'applied' field than 'treatment' field. The patent information should be connected research achievement results in Korean Oriental Medicine.

  • Objectives: This study is performed to investigate the use of oriental medicine on pediatric outpatients with atopic dermatitis(AD). Methods: The study was carried out with 267 AD outpatients who visited the Department of Pediatrics, Oriental Medical Hospital from January 2010 to May 2011 and was completed by reviewing patients' chart. Results: The relative frequency of AD on the oriental pediatrics hospital was 6.8%. In a sexual distribution, the male children were more frequent than the females. In an age distribution, atopic dermatitis children visited the hospital were the most frequent in the age from 3 to 10. The highest frequency that started the oriental therapy after the outbreak of AD was from 1 month to 1 year. Approximately, 49.4% of the children who visited hospital relied on western medicine in treating their atopic dermatitis. The therapeutic effect of the oriental medicine was found to be excellent in 47.9%, no change was seen in 16.9%, and aggravation was seen in 3.4% of the patients. Less than a month of oriental treatment was the most common. The improvement depending on the length of the treatment was found to be 91.8% in more than 3 months, and 21.8% in less than 1 month. The use of the herbal medicine and herbal external treatment was seen in 67.4% and the therapeutic effect was improved in 63.3% of the patients. Conclusions: Considering the results, we can improve accommodation of oriental therapies for the pediatric outpatients with atopic dermatitis, and enhance the doctor-patient relationship to help the children with atopic dermatitis.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends in foreign clinical trials for pediatric asthma in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Methods : We reviewed 31 randomized controlled trials (RCT) for pediatric asthma treatment in CAM published from 2005 to 2015 in PubMed and analyzed their treatments, compounds of herbal medicines, acupoints, methods of assessment, and treatment results. Results : The treatments used in the studies were herbal medicines, acupuncture, acupoint application, breathing training, supplement, normocaloric diet, yoga, massage therapy, and art therapy. The frequently used herbs were Asari Herba Cum Radix (細辛). Ephedrae Herba (麻黃), Astragali Radix. The most common acupoints were Feishu (肺兪, BL13). The methods of assessment in pediatric asthma were symptom scale, questionnaire of Quality of Life, lung function test, laboratory studies, and medication usage. In 28 out of 31 studies, treatment group gets better than non-treated group. Conclusions : This study shows that CAM is effective in treating pediatric asthma. More clinical studies using objective outcome measures are needed to prove its efficacy clearly.
