Objectives The purpose of this study is to report two cases of epileptic children who were diagnosed as Sik-Gan(食癎) and were treated by oriental medical treatment. Methods We diagnosed the patients as Sik-Gan(食癎) and treated them with herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxa and oriental physical therapy. We observed the improvement of patient's disease by checking seizure frequency and clinical progression of gastrointestinal symptoms. Results Oriental medical treatment reduced patients' the number of seizures, and improved gastrointestinal symptoms. Conclusions This study showed that the oriental medicine can be a meaningful treatment for epileptic children who were diagnosed as Sik-Gan(食癎), but more relevant studies on epileptic children diagnosed as Sik-Gan(食癎) are needed.
This paper estimated the demand and supply of physicians for oriental medicine for the period of $2009{\sim}2019$. Two equation models were used in the estimation of manpower. In 2004, the total number of physicians of oriental medicine was amounted to 13,662 registered and 10,532 available in clinical practice, respectively. According to estimates in the study, overall excess supply of physician manpower in oriental medicine was expected in the period, such as $5,300{\sim}5,700$ persons in 2009 and $900{\sim}1,700$ persons in 2019. However, the excess supply would be mitigated after 2019 mainly due to an increase in demand for oriental medical services. Specially, opening medical service market to overseas could be an exogenous variable in physician supply. An alternative manpower policy for oriental medical doctors is needed in a way of controlling oversupply.
This study was to investigate the effects of GONGCHENGWHAN(GCW) on the blood and brain tissues of aged rats. For the experiment, the aged rats were divided into three groups : Non treated group (NC), distilled water feeding group(PC), GCW feeding group(GCW).Each group was treated as the procedure for ten days before administration of scopolamine. After this treating, we injected scopolamine to Pc and GCW group their blood cell(WBc, RBC, platelet), blood serum (BUN, creatinine, glucose, uric acid), erythrocyte hemolysis, and the activities of cholinesterase as well as measured the amounts malondialdehysde in the blood serum, catalase, and SOD in the brain tissue. The main results of this investigation are as follows.1. In respect of the number of WBC, GCW group exhibited the administrated incerase in comparison with PC. In respect of the number of RBC· and platelet, however, the changes was not administrated.2. In respect of the number of BUN, creatinine, glucose and uric and the blood, GCW group exhibited the administrated decrease in comparison with PC.3. In respect of erythrocyte hemolysis, GCW group exhibited the administrated repression in comparison with PC.4. In respect of the activity of cholinestease in the blood serum, GCW group exhibited the administrated improvement in comparison with PC.5. In respect of the amounts of malondialdehyde in the blood serum, GCW group exhibited the administrated dexrease in comparison with PC.6. In respect of the activity of catalase in brain tissue, GCW group didn't exhibit the administrated change in comparison with PC7. In respect of the activity of SOD in brain tissue, GCW group exhibited the administrated improvement in comparison with PC.Results of this study indicates that GCW improves the activities of cholinesterase and SOD, but represses the formation of the free radical and the accumulation of the antioxidant materials such as MDA. It implies that GCW has some effects on antiaging.

The number of $CD8^+$ cells in the lungs of the mice group treated with AHCR-HA didn't show significant difference compared with that of control group. 6. The concentration of IgE, IL-13, IL-4 in serum of the mice group treated with AHCR-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group. Conclusion We conclude that AHCR-HA is effective on OVA-induced asthma in C57BL/6 mouse.
Purpose : To evaluate safety of Sibjeondaebotang and Yugmijihwangtang in rats' fetus Methods : Female Sprague-Dawley rats were orally administered with the Sibjeondaebotang and Yugmijihwangtang at dose of 5mg/kg/day for 20 days. Pregnant rats were sacrificed at 20th day of gestation. Approximately live fetuses in the 20th day of gestation were randomly selected and fixed in 95% ethanol. To observe skeletal malformations, fetuses were stained with alcian blue and alizarin red S. Results : Neonatal body weight and number of fetus of Sibjeondaebotang, Yugmijihwangtang group were increased to those of control group. The fetuses treated with Sibjeondaebotang, Yugmijihwangtang didn't showed external malformation. Vertebral and sternal skeletal variations were observed in Sibjeondaebotang, Yugmijihwangtang administered group, but compared to the control, those skeletal variations were insignificant. There were no significant changes in number of ribs, cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral and caudal vertebrae Conclusion : From these results, it can be concluded that Sibjeondaebotang, Yugmijihwangtang shows no toxicity effects on fetus body weight and number of live fetuses. Although skeletal variations were shown in vertebrate and sternum, Sibjeondaebotang, Yugmijihwangtang did not show significant changes in bone malformation.
Objectives : Quality control for imported medicinal herbs is duty for regulation, however to the best of our knowledge there has been no report regarding quality control of imported ones. Therefore, this study investigated the data of imported ones for monitoring quality issue. Methods : These data are categorized according to item, the amount of import, country, inspection item, suitability, and incongruity reason based on the 248 results performed by KIOM. Results : China is the number one country for import with the value of 73%. Inspected medicinal herbs were 139 species, among them Poria is ranked as top for requested number and the amount of import. The amount of import is similar between high ranking 20 species and low ranking 119 ones, showing high ranking ones are major. The incongruity ratio was 7.7% from the total number of inspected items, the reason for incongruity was excess of tolerable amount of Cd residue. Conclusions : From the data, it is effective way to focus on high ranking herbs for evaluating imported herbs for quality control. The study of mechanism on Cd accumulation and its decrease is essential for environmental matter. And identification and storage for mixed used and easily decomposable herbs are remained for further study. Our study might be small step for showing guideline for proper quality control.
Bandwidth and Pitch Range are very important in the area of distinguish of phone which is one of many areas of phonetics and distinguish the individual way of phone. So if each constitution has a trait in its phone, they are important to judge the constitutions. In this report we try to understand the relativity between constitutions and Formant Bandwidth, Pitch Range and the number of syllables in a minute which are important to distinguish the phone. And we try to make judging the constitutions objective. 1. We analyzed Formant Bandwidth and there are some differences between constitutions but it doesn't have any importance in the statistics. 2. We analyzed Pitch Range and there are some differences between constitutions but it doesn't have any importance in the statistics. 3. We analyzed the number of syllables in a minute and there are some differences between constitutions but it doesn't have any importance in the statistics. As mentioned above there are differences between constitutions in Formant Bandwidth, Pitch Range and the numbers of syllables in a minute, but they don't have any importance in the statistics. However if we increase the number of samples and remove noise, there will be great possibility to find some important meanings.

This study was undertaken to investigate the effects of Gyoaesamultang in pregnant rats and their fetuses. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were orally administered with the Gyoaesamultang at dose of 5mg/kg/day for 20 days. Pregnant rats were sacrificed at 20th day of gestation, and observed internal and reproductive organs. Approximately, live fetuses in the 20th day of gestation were randomly selected and fixed in 95% ethanol. To observe skeletal malformations, fetuses were stained with alcian blue and alizarin red S. Maternal body weight of Gyoaesamultang treated group has a tendency to increase compared to that of control group. There were no significant difference in internal and reproductive organs. There were no significant changes between two groups in blood chemistry and hematological values. There were no significant changes in number of corpus luteum, implantation, live fetuses and implantation rate, delivery rate, late resorption rate and sex ratio. But Gyoaesamultang administered group showed lower early resorption rate than the control group. Neonatal body weight and number of fetus of Gyoaesamultang group were increased to that of control group. The fetuses of dams treated with Gyoaesamultang didn't showed external malformation. Vertebral and sternal variations were observed in Gyoaesamultang group but, compared to the control, those variations were insignificant. The number of ribs, cervical, thoracic, and lumber were normal. The number of sacral and caudal vertebrae were increased. Fetuses treated with Gyoaesamultang showed significant difference in the number of caudal vertebra(P<0.01). From these results, it can be concluded that Gyoaesamultang showed no toxicity effects on maternal body weight, early resorption rate, and number of live fetuses. There were no significant changes in organ weight, hematological data, reproductive organs. Although skeletal variations were showed in vertebrate and sternum, Gyoaesamultang were shown insignificant changes in bone malformation.
Objectives: Though there are many studies about sleep disorder, no research has been performed on the utilization of oriental medicine as a treatment. Therefore, the oriental medical treatment pattern of Korean patients with sleep disorders was examined herein using the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRAS). Methods: The medical records of patients with sleep disorders (G47) or nonorganic sleep disorders (F51) as a main diagnosis were adopted from the HIRAS database from 2011 to 2013. Analysis was performed on the number of patients and cost per patient, with comparison between oriental and western medicine in terms of gender, age, patient care service type, and hospital type. Results: 1) Regarding sleep disorders, the medical visits and insurance charges have been increasing. Western medicine was utilized 8 times more often than oriental medicine during 3 years. 2) There were 2.5 times more women than men. 3) Among all ages, the 50~59 year group had the highest representation. 4) In comparison of average portions of patient care type over 3 years, outpatients were the majority, while the number of visits of outpatients and hospitalization has been increasing. 5) Comparison of average portion of oriental hospital type over 3 years revealed oriental clinics to be used most. The use of general hospitals was higher in western medicine treatment, while public health centers used oriental medicine more. 6) Regarding average oriental medical cost per patient over 3 years, the total was 88,000 won, with 353,000 won for hospitalization and 85,000 won for outpatients. The outpatient cost has been increasing. 7) In line with 6, oriental medical hospitals cost 126,000 won, local clinics were 85,000 won, and etc. was 95,000 won. Average costs of all types have increased during 3 years, except oriental medical hospitals in 2013. Conclusions: This study provided objective information about the epidemiologic characteristic of oriental medicine used for treatment of sleep disorder. For expansion of oriental medical demand for sleep disorder, this study would be helpful in understanding the recent status.
