In oriental medicine, Psychotherapy has been regarded as a part of physical therapy that seemed inseparable from psychological therapy from old times. Oriental Medical Psychotherapies are like following: Ii-Gyeung-Byun-Qi therapy(移精變氣療法), Oh- Ji-Sang-Seung therapy(五志相勝療法), Kyeongja- pyeongji therapy(驚者平之療法), Jieongoron therapy(至言高論療法) and so on. The special feature of these Psychotherapies is the unification of body and mind. For them, various oriental therapies have been under progress. Especially, Many Oriental Medical Psychotherapist insisted that pain of mind evoke pain of body, or vice versa. We observed Oriental Medical Psychotherapies to treat married couple and had a good result. Husband had alcoholism and wife had functional headache. Especially, wife wanted divorce. The problems of divorce and illness in married couple were resolved from Oriental Medical Psychotherapies.

Acute Transverse Myelitis is a syndrome, not a disease, in which acute inflammation affects gray and white matter in one or more adjacent thoracic segments. Almost all patients will develope ascending weakness and numbness of feet and leg, difficulty voiding, urinary retention, and loss of bowel control. We concluded this case to MAMOK( 마목) due to Qi ascent, Qi deficiency, Qi stoppage(상기, 기허, 기체). So we used herbal medication, acupuncture, and homeopuncture according to oriental medical theory. Weakness and numbness of feet and leg, difficulty voiding, urinary retention, and loss of bowel control are reduced. Herbal medication, acupuncture, and homeopuncture helped the care of this syndrome and further study will be investigated in oriental medicine for this syndrome.

Parkinson's disease is a common neurodegenerative disorder charaterized by distal resting tremor, rigidity, and bradykinesia, and asymmetric onset. The patient was 38-year-old man who had Parkinson's disease diagnosed and complained resting and postural tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia and so on. He was treated by oriental medicine with acupuncture, herb medication, physical therapy, kinesitherapy and Korean psychotherapy; Eejeong-byunki, Jiun-goron. After treatment the symptoms of Parkinson' disease was reduced, but the patient was deconditioned through several seizures. This result suggested that the oriental medical therapy is recommanded for Parkinson's disease. But, the relation of Parkinson's disease and seizure should be studied.

Alcoholic Korsakoff's psychosis is a clonic amnestic syndrome caused by alcohol abuse. It is characteristic of hypomnesis, disorientation and confabulation. We experienced a 53 year-old man who had a alcoholic korsakoff's syndrome, DM and general weakness and whose condition was improved through Oriental medical treatment. This case study illustrates what the manifestation of alcoholic korsakoff's syndrome is and how alcoholic korsakoff's syndrome improved.

Objectives : This study was performed to develop a standard instrument of oriental medical evaluation for dementia. Methods: The advisor committee on this study was organized by 17 neuropsychiatry professors of oriental medical colleges. The items and structure of the instrument were based on review of published literature. We took consultation twice from the advisor committee and we also took additional advices bye-mail. Results: We discriminated between bian-zheng and su-zheng from the answers of the advisor committee. We got the mean weight of each symptom and sign from the answers of the advisor committee. We got the final weight from the combination of the ratio of bian-zheng to the number of all answers of the advisor committee and mean weight. Conclusions : The instrument of oriental medical evaluation for dementia was developed through experts' discussion. If the validity and reliability of this instrument is confirmed through additional clinical trial. the instrument of oriental medical evaluation for dementia is expected to be applied to the subsequent research.

Objectives : This study aims to research the effect of oriental psychotherapy and treatments for reduction of Psychosomatic disorder symptoms caused by maladjustment of interpersonal relationship. Methods : We treat a patient with Oriental medical treatment (acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping and aroma therapy, oriental psychotherapy and Herb-medication) and follow up the changes of stress index for 3 times per 8 days. Results & Conclusions : After oriental psychotherapy and treatments, clinical symptoms of the patient were improved and the patient overcoming psychosomatic disorder can go back to the workplace. It is suggested that oriental psychotherapy and treatments are effective on psychosomatic disorder.

Objectives : This case series aims to report the efficacy of using oriental medical treatment with Melonis Calyx Vomiting Therapy for Hwa-Byung. Methods : Patients were diagnosed with Hwa-Byung through Hwa-Byung Diagnostic interview schedule (HBDIS). They were treated with Oriental medical treatment (Acupncture, Herb-medication) and Melonis Calyx Vomiting Therapy (MCVT). MCVT is a traditional treatment, which induces vomiting by eating Melonis Calyx powder with water. We used VAS score and Scott scale for the symptoms of patients and IOMEHB (instrument of oriental medical evaluation for Hwa-Byung), BDI, STAI for the psychological conditions of the patients. Results : After treatment, the chief complaint and other symptoms of Hwa-Byung have improved. The scores of IOMEHB, BDI, and STAI have decreased. Conclusions : This result suggests that using MCVT with Oriental medical treatment have a positive efficacy for Hwa-Byung.

하악진전(下顎振顫)이 나타난 여자 노인 환자 3례를 발병 초기에 간신부족(肝腎不足), 기혈양허(氣血兩虛)로 변증하여 지황음자가미(地黃飮子加味), 귀비온담탕가미(歸脾溫膽湯加味)를 투여하고, 간정격(肝正格)시술, 백회구(百會灸) 요법을 병행하여 치료해서 좋은 결과를 얻었고 이를 보고하는 바이다. 하지만 연구 기간이 짧아 지속적인 관찰이 요구되며, 이번 연구에 서는 한약요법, 침요법, 백회구요법을 동시에 시행하였지만 각각의 치료 효과에 대한 비교 분석을 포함하여 향후 객관적이고 지속적인 연구가 필요하리라 생각한다.

This study was designed to evaluate the effects of an Schultz's autogens traning and herbal medicine with various scales on symptoms of UL-syndrom(鬱證). We treated UL-syndrom(鬱證) with Schultz's autogens traning, including herbal medicine and we evaluated the clinical progress of the patient using BDI. After treatment about 2-month, the chief complaint and most of symptoms were subsided and improved. BDI score were decreased 32 to 10. This study suggests that Schultz's auto gens traning and herbal medicine is significantly effective in the treatment of UL-syndrom(鬱證).

Objectives: Schizophrenia is difficult to treat effectively and the antipsychotics used have many side effects. However, few studies have focused on the combined treatment of Korean and Western medicine as an alternative. In this study, we reported an inpatient with chronic schizophrenia who was treated by a combination of Korean and Western medicine. Methods: We experienced a case of a diagnosed schizophrenia patient as whose chief complaint was avolition, diminished emotional expression and hallucination. The patient was treated with Western medicine and Korean traditional treatment including acupuncture, moxa and herbal medicine. The Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) and the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) were used for assessment. Results: After treatment, symptoms involving avolition, diminished emotional expression and hallucination were improved; furthermore, the scores of the BPRS and the PANSS were decreased by approximately 50%, respectively. In addition, there were no notable side effects. Conclusions: The combined treatment of Korean and Western medicine can be an effective and well-tolerated treatment modality for patients with chronic schizophrenia.
