  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between each pattern identification such as Dampness-Phlegm, Fire-Heat, Deficiency of Qi, Deficiency of Yin and Blood Stagnation and blood lipid level in acute stroke patients. This study was done over patients hospitalized in 13 Oriental Medical Hospitals in the period of November 2006 to Jun 2009. Patients had been interviewed by residents and medical specialists who studied standard operation procedures in Fundamental Study for Syndrome of Oriental Medicine for Stroke. Study subjects consisted of group A that was distributed to specified pattern identification by medical specialist and discriminating program, group B that was distributed to specified pattern identification by medical specialist or discriminating program, and the control group that wasn't distributed to specified pattern identification by medical specialist and discriminating program. For the purpose of obtaining suitable result, we analyzed blood lipid level of each group by univariate analysis. In this study, there was not statistically significant relation between most of each pattern identification and blood lipid level except relation between Fire-Heat pattern group B and decreasing HDL cholesterol. Based on these results, it is suggested that Dampness-Phlegm would not be the independent predictors of hyperlipidemia unlike other studies that were presented in. More prospective studies between Fire-Heat and decreasing HDL cholesterol are to be done with more clinical data.

As a branch of social welfare, community welfare is familiar and close to local residents. We could open up a new field in community welfare for oriental medicine and oriental medical doctor(OMD). Materials and Method : Analyzing the worts of community welfare center, we tried to find ways for OMDs to take part in there. We focused m community care and home care service of community welfare center and community health center. Result : Free oriental medical services are offered in many places, but a lot of them are temporary and hard to continue due to financial problem and lack of specialist. Local residents want to know about oriental medicine but few OMDs are willing to participate, thereforen, unqualified lectures of such as hand acupuncture, moxibustion, meridian massage prevail among them. This leads to illegal oriental medical services in the name of volunteer medical work. Conclusion The system is needed that local OMD association take part in community welfare of oriental medical service and care with community welfare center and community health center. Local volunteer medical services and researches of medical policy can help increase the chance for OMDs to go into social welfare system of the aged.

  • This study was conducted to identify the needs of introducing new medical specialties in oriental medicine. Three stakeholders in introducing new oriental medical specialties are oriental medical doctors, policy makers and medical consumers. Of the three, this study intended to focus on opinions of oriental medical doctors. About 1,150 self-administered questionaries were sent to the potential respondents, 320 specialists, 250 interns & residents and 580 private oriental medicine practitioners, and 480 doctors responded. The study revealed that 62% of respondents showed negative attitudes towards the introduction of new oriental medicine specialties. The private oriental medical practitioners were more likely not in favor of adding new medical boardmanship. The reasons of objection were as follows : First, it is more important to enrich the existing oriental medical boardmanship (70%). Second, the newly established specialties are most likely to be weakened(15%). The study revealed that the first and most likely specialties to be introduced was Chuna(18%), subspecialization of oriental internal medicine (15.8%), the next oriental family medicine (15.1%) and so on. And the second specialties to be desired most by the respondents were (1) cooperative medicine between the westem and oriental medicine (28%), (2) oriental preventive medicine (17.4%) and (3) oriental family medicine (16.8%). Caution must be exercised in introducing new oriental medicine specialties. The failures of western medicine in the operation of its specialist production should carefully by examined here.

YangDongChangHwaHuRok(兩東唱和後錄) was discovered in the process of gathering medicine-related historical documents of the Choson Dynasty that is spread out all over the Japanese region, with the help from Japanese and Chinese scholars. This was part of the Co-Examination-Research-Process of korean medical documents that are located in the East Asia traditional medical region, which was promoted by the Korean Institute of Oriental Medicine in 2003.
