  • Objective and Background : Attempt to express knowledge by IT is the current of the times, knowledge of the oriental medicine have to meet the needs of the times. It takes 'classification system of the oriental medicine terms' and 'system of the predicate' for explaining the relation between concepts to express knowledge by IT technique. Researches for 'classification system of the oriental medicine terms' are in progress already, researches for 'system of the predicate' are insufficient. Subject of study : We proceeded to study of the predicate in Idongwon(李東垣)'s "Biwiron(脾胃論)" has clear theory system and considerable influence upon knowledge of the oriental medicine for studying 'system of the predicate' which expresses knowledge of the oriental medicine in early stage. Method : Acquire Chinese play a predicate part in "Biwiron(脾胃論)", translate the Chinese to answer the context, group the similar predicate, decide representative predicate of group. And attempt to make classification system of the representative predicate with Term management system based on SQL Server 2005. Results and Considerations : I classify the predicate which predicate diagnosis, treatment, symptoms and knowledge of the oriental medicine into existence, condition, cognition and will. This classification seems to be useful to explain factors which have an effect on demonstration and treatment.

Notably, the importance of good sleep began to be properly discussed in "Bei Ji Qian Jin Yao Fang(備急千金要方)" of 'Sun Si Miao(孫思邈)', etc. 2. During Two Song era, achievements in the previous eras were accepted and diseases related to sleep were explored in more details. 3. In Jin and Yuan(金元) era, Liu He Jian(劉河間), in "Su Wen Xuan Ji Yuan Bing Shi(素問玄機原病式)", recognized 'anger' as the cause for various sleep disorders and Li Dong Yuan(李東垣), in "Pi Wei Lun(脾胃論)", believed 'lethargy' and 'Shi Hou Ji Hun Mao Yu Shui(食後卽昏冒欲睡)' are related to narcolepsy linked with stomach. Zhang Cong Zheng(張從正) observed 'insomnia' as an isolated disease whereas Zhu Dan Xi(朱丹溪), in "Ge Zhi Yu Lun(格致餘論)" argued about somnambulism based on the relationship between Xiang Huo(相火) and Xin huo(心火).

  • Objective The analysis method based on the herbal formula's effects is a general tool, in traditional medicine. In effective applications of herbal formula, Korean herbal medicines traditionally used the classification methods based on the curative effects through the various compositions of herbal formulas. However' the effects of herbal formulas were not filed systemically in ancient literatures, and the standards to confirm their effects are not clear. Thus, it is not easy to classify herbal formulas according to the curative effects. Furthermore, there are no standards to estimate the effects of prescriptions frequently directed in clinic. In this study, we aimed to provide the methodology of classifying the curative effects of herbal formulas by calculating the combination of the effect of each compositional herb through the DB systems. Results : By comparing effects of herbal formula with those of compositional herbs, we found that about 25-50% of the herbal effects were included in herbal formula's effects. These results showed that the prospective estimation of herbal formula's effects may be possible through the DB systems filing herbal effects. To enhance the accuracy in explaining the herbal formula's effect, more studies are needed by giving prominence to major effects and by subtracting minor effects.

  • The study is on Yoshimasu Todo's thoughts of diseases and medical treatments. Conclusions are as below. 1. Yoshimasu Todo‘s thoughts of diseases. Diseases are existence of the poison in the human body. The poison oppresses and blocks the stream of vital energy. 'When evil-Qi is excessive. we call it Existence[邪氣盛則實]' means 'The existence of the poison in human body'. In this case, we must use herbal medicine as treatments. However, 'When body energy is exhausted, we call it Deficiency[精氣奪則虛]’ means 'The deficiency of body energy'. In this case, we don't have to use herbal medicine, because it is not a disease. For the recovery of the health. we shall intake nutritional food. 2. Yoshimasu Todo‘s thoughts of medical treatment. Medical treatment is to expel the poison from the body by using herbal medicine. When a medicine strikes the poison right, a reaction called 'Myunghyun[暝眩]' occurs. Myunghyun is the reaction of a living body when the poison is being expelled. To strike the poison right with herbal medicine, we must treat the patient according to the symptoms, not to the cause, nor the name[病名] of a disease.

The problem who is the writer of each volume remains controversial. But most scholars recognize that volume 1, 2, 3, original "Yumunsachin(儒門事親)" and was written by Jangjahwa(張子和), embellished by Majigi(麻知幾). Also, it is recognized that "Samsoron(三消論)" was collected by Majigi(麻知幾) and inserted by posterity, and that Sangjungmyeong(常仲明) and Nangi(欒企) who were Jang[張子和]'s disciples participated in compilation of "Yumunsachin(儒門事親)". Also Idongwon(李東垣) grasped that the main cause of disease is starvation because of war. As a result of it, he insisted on theory, internal cause's outbreak of person's illness, Naesangbiwi(內傷脾胃), Baekbyeong-yusaeng(百病由牛). In this view of this principle, he assorted and used following medicine 'Seungma(升麻), Siho(柴胡), Hwanggi' as 'Seungbalyanggi(升發陽氣)' method to cure children, and concentrated on children's spleen and stomach cure with this way. Jangjongjeong(張從政) applied 'Purgation therapy[攻下法]', Hantoha(汗吐下) centered on the theory of exogenous factors[外因說] , which explains that children's disease is Sagichimseup(邪氣侵襲), too. Like this, in Geumwon(金元) age, they had studied very seriously about main cause of children' s disease in two part, an internal cause and an external cause. Also, in pathological part they had approached academically 'Hwayeolchibyeong(火熱致病)' and 'Gigiseunggangsiljo(氣機乘降失調)' from diverse angles.
