Preparation and Properties of Autoxidation Drying Type Waterborne Coatings Containing Bentonite (벤토나이트가 포함된 자동산화 건조형 수성코팅제의 제조 및 특성)

  • Four different composition of autoxidation drying type waterborne coatings (WBC-1, WBC-2, WBC-3, WBC-4) were prepared by the compounding of bentonite (BEN) as a water swellable clay and organometallic soaps as a drier with acrylic binder and coating additives. The solution viscosity, solid content, rheological properties and drying rate of WBCs were investigated. Also the thermal stability, the transmittance and the water-resistance of the films casted by WBCs were measured, and the surface topology of WBC films were investigated by the scanning probe microscopy. As WBC-2, WBC-3 and WBC-4 containing BEN showed the thixotropy with the shear rate, the storage stability of WBC was a excellent. When the driers was mixed in the ratio of Mn/Zn/Ba=1/2/3, the dry ability of WBCs showed maximum as 5.0 sec at 60$\^{C}$. The initial decomposition temperature and the transmittance of WBC films containing BEN increased in range of 32.2∼54.7$\^{C}$ and 5.1∼8.6% than the commercial WBC (MC-21W), respectively.   • A family of Cr(III) complexes supported on tridentate dibenzimidazolyl ligands having a general formula: $[N(CH_3)(CH_2)_2(Bm-R)_2]CrCl_3$ [where Bm = benzimidazolyl, R = H (3a); -Me(3b); -Bn (3c)] have been synthesized and utilized them for the trans-1,4-specific polymerizations of 1,3-butadiene (BD), activated with methylalumoxane (MAO). The activity of BD polymerizations was sensitive to the type of ligand on the Cr metal, so that the activity decreases in the order of 3a > 3c > 3b. All the catalysts combined with MAO yielded polybutadienes with perfect trans-1,4 structure with moderate molecular weight.

Bulk Polymerization of L-lactide with Mixed Aluminum Organometallic Catalysts (Al계 유기금속화합물 혼합촉매 시스템을 이용한 L-lactide 벌크중합 특성 연구)

  • The differences between single and mixed aluminium catalyst systems in the bulk polymerization of L-lactide were studied. $Al(O-i-Pr)_3$, TMA, TOA and TIBA were employed for the mixed-catalyst systems, and TIBA was chosen as a reference catalyst. For the $Al(O-i-Pr)_3$/TIBA catalyst system, the conversion of polymerization increased as the composition of $Al(O-i-Pr)_3$ in the mixed catalyst increased. The molecular weight of the resulting PLA reached to about 13000 g/mol, and the polydispersity index of the polymer from the $Al(O-i-Pr)_3$/TIBA catalyst was slightly increased than that of single catalyst. The higher molecular weight tail or shoulder was revealed in the GPC curve. The conversion of the TOA/TIBA catalyst system decreased as the composition of TOA in the mixed catalyst increased. The molecular weight of PLA prepared with TOA/TIBA catalysts increased up to 14000 g/mol. The Al compounds-mixed catalysts could produce a higher molecular weight tail or shoulder in the GPC curve, which may result in enhancement of mechanical properties of PLA.

Metal-organic Chemical Vapor Deposition of Uniform Transition Metal Dichalcogenides Single Layers and Heterostructures (유기금속화학기상증착법을 이용한 전이금속 칼코게나이드 단일층 및 이종구조 성장)

  • Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), two-dimensional atomic layered materials with direct bandgap in the range of 1.1-2.1 eV, have attracted a lot of research interest due to their high response to light and capability to build new types of artificial heterostructures. However, the large-area synthesis of high-quality and uniform TMDC films with vertical-stacked heterostructure still remains challenge. In this study, we have developed a metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) system for TMDCs and conducted a systematic study on the growth of single-layer TMDCs and their heterostructures. In particular, using a bubbler-type organometallic compound sources, the concentration and flow rate of each source can be precisely controlled to obtain uniformly single-layered MoS2 and WS2 films over the centimeter scale. In addition, the MoS2/WS2 vertical heterostructure was achieved by growing WS2 film directly on the MoS2 film, as confirmed by electron microscopy, UV-visible spectrophotometer, Raman spectroscopy, and photoluminescence spectroscopy.
