Characterization of Interface in Hybrid Composites (혼성복합재료의 계면 특성 분석)

  • In this article, the characterization of the interface of hybrid composites was discussed. Interfacial interaction in organic/inorganic hybrid composites, especially silica-containing hybrids can be characterized by fluorescence spectroscopy, small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and $^{29}Si$ NMR spectroscopy measurements.

Crystallization of Poly(vinylidene fluoride)-SiO2 Hybrid Composites Prepared by a Sol-gel Process

  • Organic-inorganic hybrid composites consisting of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and SiO$_2$ were prepared through a sol-gel process and the crystallization behavior of PVDF in the presence of $SiO_2$ networks was investigated by spectroscopic, thermal and x-ray diffraction measurements. The hybrid composites obtained were relatively transparent, and brittleness increased with increasing content of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). It was regarded from FT-lR and DSC thermal analyses that at least a certain interaction existed between PVDF molecules and the $SiO_2$ networks. X-ray diffraction measurements showed that all of the hybrid samples had a crystal structure of PVDF ${\gamma}$-phase. Fresh gel prepared from the sol-gel reaction showed a very weak x-ray diffraction peak near 2$\theta$=$21^{\circ}$ due to PVDF crystallization, and Intensity increased grade-ally with time after gelation. The crystallization behavior of PVDF was strongly affected by the amount of $SiO_2$ networks. That is, $SiO_2$ content directly influenced preference and disturbance fur crystallization. In polymer-rich hybrids, $SiO_2$ networks had a favorable effect on the extent of PVDF crystallization. In particular, the maximum portent crystallinity of PVDF occurred at the content of 3.7 wt% $SiO_2$ and was higher than that of pure PVDF. However. beyond about 10 wt% $SiO_2$, the crystallization of PVDF was strongly confined.

  • Zirconia-alumina polymer precursor was prepared from zirconium acetylacetonate (ZA). paluminium nitrate (AN), polyethylene glycol (PEG), and ethyl alcohol via an organic-inorganic solution technique. The thermal properties and viscosity of the polymer precursor were measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermograbimetric analyzer (TGA), and dynamic viscometer. The vigorous exothermic reaction with volume expansion occurred at $140^{\circ}C$. The volume expansion was caused by abrupt decomposition of the organic group in metal compounds and the metal ions-PEG reaction. The evidences for these reactions were confirmed by FT-IR and $^{13}C$ solid NMR results. The peak intensity at N-O, O-H and C=C decreased with increasing temperature. This indicated that the decomposition of metal compounds and the metal ions-PEG reaction occurred during the vigorous exothermic reaction. At $800^{\circ}C$ for 2 h, the porous powders transformed to the crystalline $ZrO_2-Al_2O_3$ composites.

  • $SrTiO_3$/Organic composites 는 Inorganic/organic 복합재료로, 유전 특성이 우수하고, 저온하여 제조단가의 감소가 가능하다. 이를 바탕으로 $SrTiO_3$/Organic composites 복합재를 이용한 가능성을 확인하기 위해 Multilayer 구조의 Coupler를 설계, 제작 후 특성을 분석하였다. Coupler 는 RF signal을 분기하기 위한 목적으로 평행한 한 쌍의 Conductor line 구조를 가진다. 2개의 Line 의 길이를 특정주파수 $f_0$의 wavelength $\lambda$/4 로 설계하여 서로 근접 시켰을 때 $f_0$를 중심으로 RF 신호 분기 현상이 나타난다. 보다 넓은 대역에 걸쳐서 신호분기를 하기 위해서는 두 line 간의 간격을 좁혀 Signal coupling 효과를 증가 시킨다. single layer conductor 구조에서는 물리적인 한계가 있으므로, multilayer 구조를 사용하면 보다 넓은 대역의 Coupled line coupler 로서 기능하게 된다.

  • Recently, organic-inorganic nanocomposites have attracted great interest from researchers since they frequently exhibit unexpected hybrid properties synergistically derived from two components[1]. The addition of highly dispersed inorganic nano-sized fillers permits improvement of certain properties of polymers as compared with conventional particulate composites; increase of modulus and strength, improved barrier properties, increase in solvent and heat resistance, and good optical properties[2].   • Influences of machining on magnetic properties of soft magnetic composites (SMC's) with addition of two kinds of binder, i.e., organic binder and inorganic one, were investigated. Machining does not affect DC magnetic properties of the SMC compacts. This can be ascribed to their particular structure in which the ironpowder particles are highly isolated by the binder. On the other hand, decrease in resistivity and resultant increase in eddy current loss was confirmed in the machined compacts containing inorganic binder. It is supposed that the brittleadditive binder existing between the iron particles is partly broken, and iron-to-iron contact is formed on the machined surface.

  • The South Korean Ministry of the Environment has revised the laws relating to the management of interior air quality for multiple use facilities, and recommends maintaining carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) concentration in passenger vehicles below 1000 ppm during operation in urban areas of large cities. However, the interior $CO_2$ concentration of passenger vehicles can rapidly increase and exceed 5000 ppm within 30 min, as observed when two passengers are traveling in urban areas of the South Korean city of Jeonju with the air conditioner blower turned off and the actuator mode set to internal circulation mode. With four passengers, $CO_2$ concentration can reach up to 6000 ppm within 10 min. To counter this, when the actuator is set to external mode, $CO_2$ concentration can be maintained below 1000 ppm, even after a long period of running time. As part of the air conditioning system, alkali-treated activated carbon fiber filters are considered to be far superior to the commercial non-woven filters or combination filters currently commonly in use.

  • In this work, polymer - inorganic composites have prepared using polymer such as polyethylene glycol (PEG)/poly (methyl methacrylate, PMMA) and inorganic nanofillers materials such as TiO2 nanotubes (TiNTs)/carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The extensive structural, morphological and ionic properties revealed that the high surface area and tubular feature of nanofillers improved the interaction and cross-linking to polymer matrix which is significantly enhanced the ionic conductivity and electrical properties of composite electrolytes. Comparably high conversion efficiency ~4.5% has been observed by using the newly prepared PEG-TiNTs composite solid electrolyte as compared with PMMA-CNTs electrolyte based DSSCs (~3%). The detailed comparative properties would be discussed in term of their structural, morphology, ionic and photovoltaic properties.

Relationship between Field Emission Property and Composition of Carbon Nanotube Paste for Large Area Cold Cathode

  • CNT paste was fabricated by mixture of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) powder, organic vehicles and inorganic binder. Then firing process was performed at different temperature under air and $N_{2}$ atmosphere. It was found that emission property of CNT paste was changed by firing temperature and time due to interaction between remained resins and CNT powder. We obtained good emission property from CNT paste treated at $350^{\circ}C$ for 10 min.
