  • In order to treat effectively various type of wastewater discharged from the manufacture factory of organic phosphorous agricultural pesticides by the activated sludge process. The acclimation test of sludge was carried out by the dilution of completely mixed raw wastewater. The results of experiment were obstained as follows. 1. The moderate dilution rate of mixed raw wastewater was founded to about 30 times. 2. The available range of BOD-SS loading was 0.1~0.15 $kg\cdot BOD/kg\cdot SS\cdot day$ and it was similar to the case of extended aeration activated sludge process. 3. After the acclimation of activated sludge, the concentration of MLSS was 2000 mg/L, removal efficiency of BOD more than 90%, and SVI 100, respectively. 4. The oxygen respiratory rate of acclimated sludge was $47 mg\cdot O_2/g\cdot hr$ and this was increased about 5 times than $10 mg\cdot O_2/g\cdot hr$ of ordinary sludge.

  • Organic farming is a type of agricultural practices based on naturally occurring processes excluding or strictly limiting the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals. This study was conducted to investigate the influences of agro-based materials, effective microorganisms (EM), liquid silicate (LS), and organic liquid fertilizer (OLF) for water dropwort (Oenanthe stolonifera DC.) cultivation. Soil pH, soil organic matter, and plant available phosphorous decreased with LS application. Exchangeable Ca and Mg decreased with EM application, and electrical conductivity and exchangeable Ca and K decreased with OLF application. Most of essential nutrient contents in water dropwort were reduced with the treatments of LS, EM, and OLF as compared with those in control plot, except nitrogen and phosphorus. However, diseases and insect pests were almost not observed in the water dropwort in the agro-based material application plots, except cluster caterpillar (Spodoptera litura). Productivity of water dropwort tended to be reduced: its higher productivity in the OLF and EM+LS plots and lower in the LS and control plots.

  • This study was carried out to obtain the basic data for the prevention of chronic poisoning by organic phosphorous pesticides and to estimate the normal range of plasma cholinesterase activity level for Korean agricultural workers. The 285 agricultural workers were randomly selected for the study in Jungup Gun, Jeonbug Province, 135 persons of them were tested in the period of pre-exposure of organophosphorous pesticides (April 1981) and rest of them were tested after exposure(August 1981). Cholinesterase activity levels were measured by the Micro-method of Takahashi Hiroshi. Major findings are as following: 1) There is significant difference in plasma cholinesterase activity levels between the pro-exposed and post exposed group(p > 0.01). Mean values of plasma cholinesterase activity levels were $7.60{\pm}1.74{\mu}M/20{\mu}{\ell}$/hr. in the pre-exposed group and $6.23{\pm}1.59{\mu}M/20{\mu}{\ell}$/hr. in the post-exposed group. 2) Plasma cholinesterase activity in Korean agricultural worker could be estimated $7.30-7.90{\mu}M/20{\mu}{\ell}$/hr. with 95% confidence interval.
