A photoswitch from conjugative aromatic polymers

  • By condensing two different functional monomers, highly fluorescent aromatic polymers were prepared to produce a conjugated- conjugated spacer-type copolymer or conjugated-non-conjugated spacer-type copolymer. As synthesized polymers were soluble in an organic solvent and showed significantly enhanced optical properties compared to its monomer. Variation in the monomer composition afforded polymers having multifunctionaility such as photochromic-fluorescent polymers. Transparent thin films of the polymer as a solid medium were prepared using spin coating method and fabricated as a photoswitch, which showed photo-induced conductivity switching properties depending on the core monomeric unit in the polymers.

자기 집합에 의한 고분자 초박막의 합성 (Synthesis of Ultrathin Polymer Films by Self Assembly)

  • 콜레스테롤을 갖는 계면활성제를 합성하고, 이 계면활성제를 단량체와 함께 물 속에서 음파파쇄(sonication)하여 막소포(vesicle)용액을 형성한 다음, 이 용액을 건조하여 분자들이 규칙적으로 배열된 분자 다층 구조를 갖는 막을 합성하였다. 이 막에 들어 있는 단량체들을 UV를 이용하여 중합하여 고분자가 층과 층 사이에 들어 있는 분자 다층 구조를 합성하였다. 중합이 끝난 후 유기 용매를 사용하여 계면활성제를 추출하여 2차원적인 구조를 갖는 초박막 층으로 이루어진 고분자 막을 합성하였다. 분자 다층 구조들을 X-ray Diffractometer로 분석하여 다층 구조를 어느 정도 잘 하고 있는지를 살펴보았으며, 유기 용매로 계면활성제를 추출해내고 나서 남은 고분자 막의 절단한 면을 SEM으로 살펴 보았다.

  • Biodegradable cationic poly(ester-amide) polymers were synthesized by double-monomer method, that showed excellent solubility in many organic solvents and water. Different degradation patterns were obtained by the regulation of monomer ratios and overall long period of time of DNA protection up to 12 days was shown by PicoGreen reagent assay. Good transfection profiles in the presence of serum and very low toxicity on mammalian cells may allow these polymers to become suitable for long-term gene delivery systems and therapeutic applications.

  • 콜레스테롤을 갖는 계면활성제를 합성하고, 이 계면활성제를 단량체[tetradeca(ethylene glycol) diacrylate]와 함께 물 속에서 음파 파쇄하여 vesicle 용액을 형성한 다음, 이 용액내의 물을 증발시켜, 분자들이 규칙적으로 배열된 분자 다층 구조를 갖는 막을 합성하였다. 이 막에 들어 있는 단량체들을 광중합하여, 고분자가 계면활성제들의 층과 층 사이에 들어 있는 분자 다층 구조를 합성하였다. 중합이 끝난 후 유기 용매를 사용하여 계면활성제를 추출하여 이차원적인 구조를 갖는 얇은 박막 층으로 이루어진 고분자 막을 합성하였다. 형성된 이차원 구조를 갖는 고분자 막의 물성을 측정하였는데, 막의 물성으로는 인장 강도, 신장율, 팽윤 등을 측정하였다.

터널링 박막 두께 변화에 따른 부동 게이트 유기 메모리 소자 (Floating Gate Organic Memory Device with Tunneling Layer's Thickness)

  • 유기 메모리 절연막 제작을 위해 일반적으로 사용되어지는 습식법이 아닌 건식법 중 플라즈마 중합법을 이용하였다. 유기 절연 박막으로 사용된 단량체는 Styrene과 MMA을 사용하고, 터널링 박막은 MMA를 사용하며, 메모리 박막은 열기상증착법을 이용한 Au 박막을 사용하였다. 최적화된 소자의 구조는 Au의 메모리층의 두께를 7 nm, Styrene 게이트 절연막의 두께를 400 nm, MMA 터널링 박막의 두께를 30 nm로 증착하여 제작된 부동 게이트형 유기 메모리 소자는 40/-40 V의 double sweep시 27 V의 히스테리시스 전압을 얻을 수 있었다. 이 특성을 기준하여 유기 메모리의 전하 포집 특성을 얻을 수 있었다. 유기 재료 중 MMA 대비 Styrene의 전하 포집 특성이 좋은 것으로 보아 향후 부동 게이트인 Au 박막을 유기 재료인 Styrene으로 대체하여 플렉시블 소자의 가능성을 기대한다.

FDM 3D프린터 소재에서 방출될 수 있는 휘발성유기화합물 평가 (Evaluation for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) Emitted from Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D Printing Filaments)

  • Objectives: Fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printer which is one of the material extrusion (MEX) technologies is an additive manufacturing (AM) process. 3D printers have been distributed widely in Korea, particularly in school and office, even at home. Several studies have shown that nanoparticles and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were emitted from an FDM 3D printing process. The objective of this study was to identify types of chemicals possibly emitted from FDM 3D printing materials such as PLA (polylactic acid), ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), nylon, PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol), PVA (polyvinyl alcohol), PC (polycarbonate) filaments. Methods: 19 FDM 3D printing filaments which have been distributed in Korea were selected and analyzed VOCs emitted of 3D printing materials by headspace gas chromatography mass spectrometry (headspace GC-MS). Subsamples were put into a vial and heated up to 200℃ (500 rpm) during 20 minutes before analyzing FDM 3D printing filaments. Results: In the case of PLA filament, lactide and methyl methacrylate, the monomer components of one, were detected, and the volume ratio ranged 27~93%, 0.5~37% respectively. In the case of ABS filaments, styrene (50.5~59.1%), the monomer components of one, was detected. Several VOCs among acetaldehyde, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene, etc were detected from each FDM 3D printing filaments. Conclusions: Several VOCs, semi-VOCs were emitted from FDM 3D printing filaments in this study and previous studies. Users were possibly exposed to ones so that we strongly believe that we recommend to install the ventilation system such as a local exhaust ventilation (LEV) when they operate the FDM 3D printers in a workplace.

  • In order to prepare the functional organic optic meterials, the capacitive coupled gas flow type plasma polymerization apparatus was designed and manufactured. Styrene and para-Xylene monomer were adopt as organic materisl. Optical constant, refrative index, extinction coefficient of organic thin films by the gas flow type plasma polymerization appratus were determined by envelope method using spectrophotometry. The refractive index of plasma polymerized thin films was decreased in accordance to increase of wave length and discharge time. The extinction coefficient was very small compared with refractive index. From the experimental result of optical constant and film thickness, it was considered that the films which had required optical properties and thickness can be prepared by control of polymerization condition.

  • Molecular imprinting constitutes a valuable method of preparing polymeric materials with specific binding properties. The most conspicuous merit of molecular imprinting is that structurally three-dimensional recognition sites can be introduced into a polymer matrix with ease and low cost when compared with the complicated process of biological system for antigen and antibody. We used a thermally reversible bond for the preparation of the monomer-template complex, which allowed us to remove the template easily by means of a simple thermal reaction and to simultaneously introduce various functional groups into the cavity. This method is especially propitious for developing artificial receptors for molecules lacking strongly interactive groups.

RF 플라즈마를 이용한 유기 EL 소자의 전극형성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Electrode formation of an Organic EL Devices using the RF Plasma)

  • In this thesis, it is designed efficient electrode formation on the organic luminescent device. ITO electrode is treated with $O_2$plasma. In order to inject hole efficiently, there is proposed the shape of anode that inserted plasma polymerized films as buffer layer between anode and organic layer using thiophene monomer. It is realized efficiently electron injection to aluminum due to introduce the quantum well in cathode. In the case of device inserted the buffer layer by using the plasma poiymerization after $O_2$plasma processing for ITO transparent electrode, since it forms the stable interface and reduce the moving speed of hole, the recombination of hole and electronic ate made in the omitting layer. Compared with the devices without buffer layer, the turn-on voltage was lowered by 1.0(V) doc to the introduction of buffer layer Since the quantum well structure is formed in front of cathode to optimize the tunneling effect, there is improved the power efficiency more than two times.

플라즈마 다층 유기박막의 광학특성 (The Optical Properties of Multi-layer Organic Thin Films)

  • Organic thin films were fabricated an using interelectrode capacitively coupled type plasma polymerizaion apparatus, and their optical properties were investigated. A deposition rate of styrene thin films is linearly increased, but one or vinyl-pyridine thin films is nonlinearly increased with increasing of polymerization time, pressure and monomer flow rate. The transmittance of single layer thin films is constant, but that of multi-layer appeared irregular peak with increasing of the number of layers. And then the refractive index of organic thin films is various from 1.55 to 1.65 with wavelength, the extinction coefficient indicated $10^{-3}$.
