  • Many researchers have made efforts to control the stereoregularity in radical polymerization of vinyl monomers because the physical and chemical properties of the polymer are significantly affected by the stereostructure.[1]-[4] In general, monomer design, reaction conditions(e.g. solvent, temperature, and monomer concentration), and additives can alter the stereochemistry of the radical polymerization of acrylic monomer. • Three different, polymer-platinum conjugates (hydrogels, microparticles, and nanoparticles) were synthesized by complexation of cis-dichlorodiammineplatinum(II) (cisplatin) with partially succinylated glycol chitbsan (PSGC). Succinic anhydride was used as a linker to introduce cisplatin to glycol chitosan (GC). Succinylation of GC was investigated systematically as a function of the molar ratio of succinic anhydride to glucosamine, the methanol content in the reaction media, and the reaction temperature. By controlling the reaction conditions, water-soluble, partially water-soluble, and hydrogel-forming PSGCs were synthesized, and then conjugated with cisplatin. The complexation of cisplatin with water-soluble PSGC via a ligand exchange reaction of platinum from chloride to the carboxylates induced the formation of nano-sized aggregates in aqueous media. The hydrodynamic diameters of PSGC/cisplatin complex nano-aggregates, as determined by light scattering, were 180-300 nm and the critical aggregation concentrations (CACs), as determined by a fluorescence technique using pyrene as a probe, were $20-30{\mu}g/mL$. The conjugation of cisplatin with partially water-soluble PSGC, i.e., borderline between water-soluble and water-insoluble PSGC, produced micro-sized particles $<500{\mu}m$. Cisplatin-complexed PSGC hydrogels were prepared from water-insoluble PSGCs. All of the cisplatin-incorporated, polymer matrices released platinum in a sustained manner without any significant initial burst, suggesting that they may all be useful as slow release systems for cisplatin. The release rate of platinum increased with the morphology changes from hydrogel through microparticle to nanoparticle systems.

  • This study explored boundaryless characteristics of Posthumanist black color fashion by examining fashion collections from 2018 to 2023 that explicitly incorporated Posthumanist paradigms through literature review and case analysis. Black color fashion reflects key Posthumanist attributes such as dissolution of boundaries in ecology, academia, gender, and Western-centrism. These characteristics are manifested as 'organic expression of nature and technology encompassing the body,' 'robust expression of hybridized imagery,' and 'fusion of Eastern traditional cultural expressions.' In the 'organic expression of nature and technology,' flora and fauna motifs are applied or an advanced technology is employed to realize organic forms, offering an experimental representation of post-anthropocentrism, focusing on avant-garde and sensuous fashion images. 'Robust expression of hybridized imagery' combines masculine body expressions with bold accessories to convey a resistant fashion image to gender identity norms while utilizing traditional male fashion items to present a strong and charismatic image. 'Fusion of Eastern traditional cultural expressions' integrates traditional elements from various Eastern cultures into materials, producing opulent yet ascetic fashion images through designs that can conceal the body's silhouette, reflecting a restrained image of black in Eastern cultures. This study provides a multi-layered interpretation of black color fashion in the Posthuman era, addressing themes such as 'representation of diverse organic life forms, gender fluidity, and challenges to Western-centric narratives,' contributing to a deeper understanding of how fashion interacts with socio-cultural contexts.

  • It was investigated that the emission characteristics of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from small and medium companies located on industrial complexes in Metropolitan area. The emission characteristics are intermittent sources in which VOCs emissions are highly depends on the working condition. Optimized ventilation system to improve air quality in working area for the three typical companies were installed. Adsorption characteristics of major VOCs such as MEK, IPA, and toluene emitted front the companies were investigated for design of the activated carbon vessel as a VOCs control facility in each company. Concentration of total hydrocarbon and gas amounts needed to ventilation were also used as a design parameter. Mixed adsorbent to improve adsorption characteristics of problematic solvents like IPA and the design guideline of the activated carbon vessel have been suggested.

  • We have prepared the plasma-polymerized membrane for pervaporation of organic-liquid mixtures by the plasma polymerization technique. Plasma polymerization techniques were utilized in the development of hydrophilic composite membranes having high hydrogen ion permeability and excellent dimensional stability. To develop an organic liquid permselective membrane. suppressing membrane swelling as well as enhancing the solubility difference is important, the objectives of the present study are to design a suitable membrane for an organic-mixture system by the control of the plasma-polymer solubility.

  • Poly(${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone) nanocapsules(nanoPCL) containing phytoncide oil were synthesized by emulsion diffusion method using ethyl acetate as organic solvent. The influence of the degree of hydrolyzation of poly(vinyl acohol) used as an emulsion stabilizer, and the different weight ratio of core material to wall material on the particle size, morphology, and emulsion stability was investigated to design nanocapsules. The encapsulated nanoPCL were characterized by FT-IR spetrometry, Scanning electron microscope, Differential scanning calorimetry, and Thermogravimetry analysis, respectively.

  • In this letter, we report on the development progress of a pressure control organic vapor deposition (PCOVD) technology used to design and build a large area deposition system. We also investigate the growth characteristics of a pentacene thin film by PCOVD. Using the PCOVD method, the mobility and on/off current ratio of an organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) on a plastic substrate are $0.1cm^2/Vs$ and $10^6$, respectively. The developed OTFT can be applied to a flexible display on a plastic substrate.

  • Novel 1,4-substituted piperazine derivatives 5, Series A and B were designed by fragment analysis and molecular modification of 4 selected piperazine-containing compounds which possess antidepressant activity. We synthesized new 39 analogues of Series A and 10 compounds of Series B, respectively. The antidepressant screening against DA, NE, and serotonin neurotransmitter uptake inhibition was carried out using the Neurotransmitter Transporter Uptake Assay Kit. The compounds in Series B showed relatively higher reuptake inhibitory activity for SERT, NET, and DAT than those in Series A. The length of spacer between the central piperazine core and the terminal phenyl ring substituted at the piperazine ring in Series B seems to exert an important role in the activity.

  • The effects of substrate concentration, enzyme concentration, reaction temperature, and water content were investigated in intramolecular esterification. This study used cyclohexane as organic solvent, power lipase as enzyme, and benzyl alcohol and octanoic acid as substrate. The initial reaction rate was found to be proportional to enzyme concentration; followed Michaelis-Menten equation for octanoic acid; and was inhibited by benzyl alcohol . The observed initial reaction rate first increased, then decreased with increasing reaction temperature, giving rise to the maximum rate at 20$\circ$. The drop in the reaction rate at higher temperature was to partition equilibrium change of substrate between organic solvent and hydration layer of enzyme molecule in addition to the deactivation by enzyme denaturation. Water layer surrounding enzyme molecule seemed to activate in organic solvent and the realistic reaction was done in the water layer. In the enzymatic reaction in organic solvent, the initial reaction rate was influenced by partition quilibrium of substrate, so the optimum condition of substrate concentration, enzyme concentration, reaction temperature, and water content would give a good design tool.

  • There is much recent interests in applying membrane separation technologies, especially for organic liquid and vapor separation or removing dissolved organics from water. Pervaporation separation can separate azeotropic mixtures and mixtures close to boiling point, and it has a potential for energy saving process instead of distillation. Removal of chlorinated oraganics from water is other measure application for pervaporation separation. Contaminated pollutant must be removed from water, and a pervaporation can effectively remove the pollutant. Air pollution by organic vapor recently became serious enviromncntal problem, and removing organic vapor from air is important application of the membrane technology.
