수계내 저질에 대한 구리 및 카드뮴의 분배 특성 (Characteristics of Copper and Cadmium Partitioning in Aquatic Sediment)

  • 수계내 저질에 대한 구리 및 카드융의 분배 특 성을 검토하기 위하여 선택적 연속추출법에 의해 실험한 결과 다음과 같았다. 저질에 분배된 구리는 pH의 변화에 따라 carbo¬n nate 상과 exchangeable/adsorbed 상이 영향을 많이 받았으며 카드륨은 carbonate 상이 영향을 많이 받았다. 그리고 NTA와 EDTA가 함께 존재할 때 구리와 카로융 모두 carbonate 상과 결합한 것이 가장 많이 해리되어 수중으로 이동하였다. 저질과 결합한 금속량과 평형농도 사이의 구리와 카드륨의 총괄적인 분배계수는 구리가 8.361이었 으며 카드륨이 0.497이었다. 저질내 각 고형상에 분배된 크기를 분배계수로 나타내면 구리의 경우는 carbonate, organic matter, exchangeable/adsorbed, manganese oxides 그리고 iron oxides 차례로 컸으며, 카드뮴의 경우는 exchangeable/adsorbed, carbonate, manganese oxides, organic matter 그리고 iron oxides 차례로 컸다. organic matter 상은 구리와는 달리 카드륨에서는 분배에 크게 기여하지 않았다.

유기안료 배합이 도공층의 표면 및 광학적 특성에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Organic Pigment Blending on Surface and Optical Properties of Coated Paper)

  • The effects of several factors including organic pigment blending and calending conditions on the surface and optical properties of coated paper were investigated. When clay and calcium carbonate are blended in the ratio of 7 to 3, highest smoothness and relative sediment volume were obtained. When organic pigments were added to the mixture of clay and calcium carbonate, the relative sediment volume did not changed significantly. However, when organic pigments were added to calcium carbonate, sheet gloss and smoothness were improved, and showed the better results than that obtained from the mixture of organic pigment and clay. When organic pigment is blended with clay, the particles of organic pigment are buried in the packing structure of coating layer. However, the particle shape of calcium carbonate is quite different from that of clay, and the aspect ratio of calcium carbonate is similar to that of organic pigment. Thus organic pigment particles are not buried and improved effectively the physical characteristics of coating layer. When the hollow sphere pigment was blended, opacity and sheet gloss were improved significantly. Even though the coating color applied was reduced, the similar level of opacity was maintained. Also, if particle size and void volume are increased, gloss is improved, because coating layer is easily transformed in calendering. Therefore, even though lower pressure was applied during calendering, the smoothness of surface of coating layer was improved, and the decrease of void volume in coating layer was reduced, and the quality of coated sheet can be improved.

Applicability of biocementation for organic soil and its effect on permeability

  • In past few years, the use of bacterial calcium carbonate precipitation (biocementation) has become popular as a ground improvement technique for sandy soil. However, this technique was not applied to organic soil. This study focused on bacterial calcium carbonate precipitation and its effect on permeability in organic soil. A special injection system was prepared for inducing bacterial solution to the samples. The bacterial solution supplied to the samples by gravity for 4 days in specific molds designed for this work. Calcite precipitation was observed by monitoring pH value and measuring amount of calcium carbonate. Change in the permeability was measured before and after biocementation. The test results showed that the pH values indicates that the treatment medium is appropriate for calcite precipitation, and amount of precipitated calcium carbonate in organic soil increased about 20% from untreated one. It was also found that the biocementation can be considered as an effective method for reducing permeability of organic soil. The results were supported by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis and energy-dispersive x-ray (EDX) analysis.

Fluoroethylene Carbonate Addition Effect on Electrochemical Properties of Mixed Carbonate-based Organic Electrolyte Solution for a Capacitor

  • In this paper, organic solvent electrolytes were prepared by a mixture of propylene carbonate (PC), dimethyl carbonate (DMC), tetraethylammonium tetrafluoroborate ($TEABF_4$)s to evaluate the ionic properties of propylene carbonate (PC)/dimethyl carbonate (DMC) mixtures as solvents for a capacitor application, in view of improving the electrochemical performances. The bulk resistance and interfacial resistance of the mixture electrolytes were investigated using an AC impedance method. The morphology of carbon-based electrodes which were contained in different electrolytes was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) method. From the experimental results, by increasing the FEC content, capacitance of electrodes was increased, and the interfacial resistance was decreased. In particular, by a content of 2 vol % FEC in 0.2 M $TEABF_4$ PC/DMC solvent, the electrolyte showed the superior capacitance. However, when FEC content exceeds 2 vol %, the capacitance was decreased and the interfacial resistance was increased.

Conducting and interface characterization of carbonate-type organic electrolytes containing EMImBF4 as an additive against activated carbon electrode

  • Carbonate-type organic electrolytes were prepared using propylene carbonate (PC) and dimethyl carbonate (DMC) as a solvent, quaternary ammonium salts, and by adding different contents of 1-ethyl-3-methyl imidazolium tetrafluoroborate ($EMImBF_4$). Cyclic voltammetry and linear sweep voltammetry were performed to analyze conducting behaviors. The surface characterizations were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy method and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. From the experimental results, increasing the $EMImBF_4$ content increased the ionic conductivity and reduced bulk resistance and interfacial resistance. In particular, after adding 15 vol% $EMImBF_4$ in 0.2 M $SBPBF_4$ PC/DMC electrolyte, the organic electrolyte showed superior capacitance and interfacial resistance. However, when $EMImBF_4$ content exceeded 15 vol%, the capacitance was saturated and the voltage range decreased.

Slope Sedimentation and Organic Carbon Content in the Late Quaternary West Florida Slope Sediments

  • Slope sedimentation on the modern west Florida continental margin is controlled by pelagic carbonate accumulation and off-shelf sedimentation of neritic carbonates and terrigenous fines. Production and deposition of pelagic carbonates by planktonic foraminifera and coccoliths have played a significant role in the total slope sedimentation and are mainly promoted by sea-surface productivity. Organic carbon data reflect the relatively high biological productivity in surface waters, indicating high accumulation of biogenic calcareous sediments. The surface-water productivity in the study area is supported by the relation among microfossil assemblages, carbonate mineralogy and sedimentary organic carbon.

광미장과 두개의 농업토양통 토양으로 부터의 중금속의 연속 분획 (Sequential Fractionation of Heavy metals from Mine Tailings and Two Series of Agricultural Soils)

  • 본 연구는 폐 금속광산으로부터 발생한 중금속이 주변 환경으로 오염 확산되는 특성과 이를 중금속으로 오염된 토양의 효과적인 복원 방안을 모색하기 위하여 토양내 중금속의 거동 특성을 바탕으로 한 반응 특성을 조사하였다. 토양내 중금속의 이동성과 생물에 의한 흡수에 영향을 미치는 화학적 존재 형태를 중금속이 다량 함유되어 있는 충남 청양의 구봉 폐 금광의 광미와 인위적으로 중금속을 오염시킨 농경지 토양에서 중금속의 토양과의 화학적 결합 형태를 연속 축출법에 의해 분리하였으며, 그 순서에 따라 토양 내에서 다음과 같이 용해도와 이동성이 감소한다: Soluble fraction> exchangeable>carbonate>Fe-Mn oxide>organic>residual fraction. 광미중에 결합 부위에 가장 높은 친화력을 보인 Pb는 대부분 Fe-Mn Oxide와 Carbonate fraction에 존재하였고 이 두 Fraction에 각각 48.3%와 26.8% 나타났다. Cu와 Cd는 각각 organic과 carbonate fraction이 71.8% 42.9%로 가장 높게 나타났다. 이들 fraction은 비교적 이동성이 강한 fraction으로 중금 속의 오염 조사시 반드시 평가되어야 하며, 복원방안 결정시 반드시 고려되어야 할 것이다. 중금속을 인위적으로 흡착시킨 토양에 있어서 중금속은 대부분 Exchangeable, carbonate 그리고 Fe-Mn oxide fraction 흡착되어 있는 것으로 나타났다. 예산통에 있어서 흡착된 Pb는 이들 fraction에 91%가 존재하였고, Cu는 Fe-Mn Fraction에 30.4% 그리고 Cd는 exchangeable fraction에 67.9% 가 존재하였다. 월곡통에 있어서는 흡착된 Cd는 Exchangeable fraction에 93.2%가 존재하였고, Pb와 Cu는 대부분 exchangeable, carbonate와 Fe-Mn Oxide에 흡착되어 있었다. 따라서 토양내 이들 중금속이 가해질 경우 대부분 독성이 강한 오염원으로서 잠재적인 이동성과 생물학적 흡수가능성을 갖는 것으로 나타났다.

배터리 전해질 유기용매인 EC(Ethylene Carbonate)의 연소특성치 측정 (Measurement of Combustible Characteristics of EC(Ethylene Carbonate) for Battery Electrolyte Organic Solvent)

  • 리튬이온 2차전지는 현재 많은 수요와 공급이 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 리튬이온전지의 전해질 유기용매로 사용되는 EC(Ethylene Carbonate)의 연소특성치 연구를 통해 이를 취급하는 공정의 안전성 확보를 목적으로 한다. 밀폐식 장치인 Setaflash와 Pensky-Martens에 의한 EC의 인화점은 141 ℃와 143 ℃, 개방식 장치인 Tag와 Cleveland는 각각 152 ℃와 156 ℃로 측정되었으며 AIT(Auto Ignition Temperature)는 420 ℃로 측정되었다. Setaflash에서 측정된 인화점에 의한 LEL(Lower Explosive Limit) 은 3.6 Vol.%로 계산되었다.

Geochemical Evidence for Spatial Paleoproductivity Variations the Northwest Pacific (Shikoku Basin) during the Last Glacial Maximum

  • A geochemical study of three piston cores (ST.4, ST.6 and ST.20) taken from the Northwest Pacific (eastern edge of Shikoku Basin) provides information about changes in surface water paleoproductivity and sedimentation during the last 127 kys. Paleoproductivity variations were estimated on the basis of total organic carbon content and carbonate mass accumulation rate. The paleoproductivity based on total organic carbon shows significant spatial variations between glacial and interglacial periods. During the last glacial maximum (LGM) paleoproductivity increased about 1.5 times with deglaciation decrease compared with those of the Holocene at inner side of the Shikoku Basin (ST.4 and ST.6). On the other hand, paleoproductivity at outer side of Shikoku Basin (ST.20) indicating not distinctive increase but deglaciation increase. The C/N ratios fall below 10 for cores ST.4 and ST.6, but C/N ratios between 100 ka and 80 ka in ST.20 which show around 10 or larger values suggest a predominance of marine organic carbon with some admixture of terrigenous materials. The carbonate mass accumulation rate of three cores show different patterns of calcareous record with respect to organic carbon based paleoproductivity variation. In the inner side of Shikoku Basin (ST.4 and ST.6) the carbonate mass accumulation rate decreased during last glacial maximum, and significant increase of carbonate mass accumulation rate is recognized at outer side of Shikoku Basin (ST.20). Thus, this set of data reveals that spatial paleoproductivity variations between inner and outer side of Shikoku Basin during the glacial and interglacial periods.

  • A series of ABA type triblock copolymers of trimethylene carbonate (TMC) and $\varepsilon$-caprolactone($\varepsilon$-CL) with different molar ratio were synthesized using ethylene glycol as initiator and stannous octoate as catalyst by ring-opening bulk polymerization. The characterization of the triblock copolymers was characterized by $^1$H-NMR, $\^$13/C-NMR, FT-IR, GPC and DSC, and compared with random copolymer. (omitted)
