Reported herein is the film morphology control of inkjet-printed 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS-pentacene) organic thin-film transistors for the improvement of their performance and of the device-to-device uniformity. The morphology of the inkjetted TIPS-pentacene films was significantly influenced by the bank geometry such as the bank shapes and confinement area for the channel region. A specific confinement size led to the formation of uniform TIPS-pentacene channel layers and better electrical properties, which suggests that the ink volume and the solid concentration of the organic-semiconductor solutions should be considered in designing the bank geometry.
Well-aligned nanowire arrays can be used as building blocks for nanoscale device. Recently, we reported that well-aligned single-crystal organic nanowires has been created by using a direct printing method which is named liquid-bridge mediated nanotransfer molding (LB-nTM). Moreover, multi-layering nanostructures can be fabricated by repeating this printing process. As a result, it is possible to make simple and basic concept of heterojunction devices such as crossed nanowire devices. We fabricated crossed single-crystal organic nanowires nanojunction devices from 6,13-bis (triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS-PEN) and fullerene (C60) single-crystal nanowires using by direct printing method in solution process. Crossed TIPSPEN/ C60 single-crystal nanowires diode has rectifying behavior with on/off ratios of ~13. In addition, the device shows photodiode characteristics as well as rectification. Our study represent methodology of heterojunction devices using single-crystal nanowires, thereby provide a new direction of future nanoelectronics.
A high voltage NMOSFET is proposed to drive top emission organic light emitting device (OLED) used in the organic electroluminescent (EL) display on the single crystal silicon substrate. The high voltage NMOSFET can be fabricated by utilizing a simple layout technique with a standard CMOS logic process. It is clearly shown that the maximum supply voltage ($V_{DD}$) required for the pixel-driving transistor could reach 45 V through analytic and experimental methods. The high voltage NMOSFET was fabricated by using a standard 1.5 ${\mu}m$, 5 V CMOS logic process. From the measurements, we confirmed that the high voltage NMOSFET could sustain the excellent saturation characteristic up to 50 V without breakdown phenomena.
The performance of the DRAM is strongly dependent on the purity and surface roughness of the TIT (TiN/Insulator/ TiN) capacitor electrodes. Hence, in the present study, we evaluate the effects of organic contamination and change of surface roughness on the cylindrical TIT capacitor electrodes during the wet cleaning process by various analytical techniques such as TDMS, AFM, XRD and V-SEM. Once the sacrificial oxide and PR (Photo Resist) are removed by HF, the organic contamination and surface oxide films on the bottom Ti/TiN electrode become visible. With prolonged HF process, the surface roughness of the electrode is increased, whereas the amount of oxidized Ti/TiN is reduced due to the HF chemicals. In the 80nm DRAM device fabrication, the organic contamination of the cylindrical TIT capacitor may cause defects like SBD (Storage node Bridge Defect). The SBD fail bit portion is increased as the surface roughness is increased by HF chemicals reactions.
Organic semiconductors have attracted considerable attention due to their interesting physical properties followed by various technological applications in the area of electronics and opto-electronics. It has been a long time since organic solar cells were expected as a low-cost high-energy conversion device. Although practical use of them has not been achieved, technological progress continues. Morphology of the materials, organic/inorganic interface, metal cathodes, molecular packing and structural properties of the donor and acceptor layers are essential for photovoltaic response. We have fabricated solar-cell devices based on copper-phthalocyanine(CuPc) as a donor(D) and fullerene($C_{60}$) as an electron acceptor(A) with doped charge transport layers, and BCP as an exciton blocking layer(EBL). We have measured photovoltaic characteristics of the solar-cell devices using the xenon lamp as a light source.
Organic photo Diodes (OPDi) give multiple advantages in the growing interest of the flexible optoelectronic devices. Organic semiconductors are freeform as they can deposit on any substrate, so it could be flexible. But the inorganic material photodiodes (PDs) are usually fabricated on silicon wafers which are solid. So, normally PDs are inflexible. By those reasons, we decided to make the vacuum deposited small molecule OPDi. We have investigated the OPDi's J-V characteristic by changing the thickness of p-type layer of OPDi. This device consists of indium-tin-oxide (ITO) / 2,3:6,7-dibenzanthracene (pentacene) / buckminsterfullerene (C60) / aluminum (Al). Its J-V characteristics were measured in the probe station(4156C) that can give dark condition while measuring. And for the luminance characteristics, the photocurrent was measured with the bright halogen lamp and a probe station.
The PVA (poly-vinyl alcohol) insulators were spun coated onto ITO coated glass substrates with the capacitors of Glass/ITO/PVA/Al structure. The effects of PVA concentrations (3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 wt%) on the morphology and electrical properties of the films were investigated. As the concentration of PVA increased from 3.0 to 5.0 wt%, the leakage current of device decreased from 17.1 to 0.23 pA. From the AFM measurement, the RMS value decreased with increasing PVA concentration, showing the improvement of insulator film roughness. The capacitances of the films with PVA concentrations of 4.0 and 5.0 wt% were about 28.1 and 24.2 nF, respectively. The lowest leakage current of 1.77 PA was obtained at the film thickness of 117.5 nm for the device with fixed PVA concentration of 5.0 wt%.
In this study, we have investigated the power conversion efficiency of organic solar cells utilizing conjugated polymer/fullerene bulk-hetero junction(BHJ) device structures. We have fabricated poly(3-hexylthiophene)(P3HT), poly[2methoxy-5-(3',7'-dimethyloctyl-oxy)-1-4-phenylenevinylene] as an electron donor, [6,6]-phenyl $C_{61}$ butyric acid methylester(PCBM-$C_{61}$)as an electron acceptor, and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate)(PEDOT:PSS) used as a hole injection layer(HIL), after fabricated active layer, between active layer and metal cathode(Al) deposited LiF interlayer(5 nm). The properties of fabricated organic solar cell(OSC) devices have been analyzed as a function of different thickness. The electrical characteristics of the fabricated devices were investigated by means J-V, fill factor(FF) and power conversion efficiency(PCE). We observed the highest PCEs of 0.628%(MDMO-PPV:PCBM-$C_{61}$) and 2.3%(P3HT:PCBM-$C_{61}$) with LiF inter-layer at the highest thick active layer, which is 1.3times better than the device without LiF inter-layer.
In this study, we investigate the capacitance-voltage (C-V) characteristics of metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) capacitors consisting of pentacene, as an organic semiconductor, and polymeric insulators such as poly(4-vinylphenol) (PVP) orpolystyrene (PS) prepared by spin-coating process, to analyze the interfacial characteristics between pentacene and polymeric insulators. Compared with the device with PS, the MIS capacitor with PVP exhibited a pronounced shift in the flat-band voltage according to the bias sweep direction. This hysteric feature in the C-V characteristics is thought to be attributed to the trapped charges at the interface between pentacene and PVP owing to the hydrophilicity of PVP. From the experimental results, we can conclude that surface polarity of polymeric insulator has a critical effect on the interfacial properties, thereby affecting the bias stability of organic thin-film transistors.

The OTFT performance depends strongly on the interfacial properties between an organic semiconductor and ${\alpha}$ metal electrode. The contact resistance is critical to the current flow in the device. The contact resistance arises mainly from the Schottky barrier formation due to the work function difference between the semiconductor and electrodes. We doped pentacene/source-drain interfaces with $F_4TCNQ$ (2,3,5,6-Tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane), resulting in p-doped region at the SD contacts, in order to solve this problem. We found that the mobility increased and the threshold voltage decreased.
