Treatment of ballast water by complex process of advance filtration system

  • There have been several problems in treating shipboard sewage due to special environmental conditions of ship, such as limited space, rolling and pitching, change of temperature and so on. It was suggested that Sequence Batch Reactor (SBR) might be suitable process for overcome these problems in terms of small size, high capacity of treating wastewater and full automation. In this study a SBR process was employed for biological treatment of organic wastes in the shipboard sewage. This process was able to remove nitrogen and phosphorus as well as organic matter efficiently. More than 95% of chemical oxygen demand(COD) were removed. In addition, about 97% of total nitrogen (T-N) was reduced. The total phosphorus(T-P) reduction averaged 93%. A disturbance operation caused by the treatment of Methylene Blue Active Substances(MBAS) was not observed.

표층수를 방류하는 저수지(용담호)에서 몬순 탁수환경의 공간적 해석 (Spatial Interpretation of Monsoon Turbid-water Environment in a Reservoir (Yongdam) Discharging Surface Water, Korea)

  • In this study, temperature, turbidity, suspended paniculate matter (SPM) distribution and mineral characteristics were investigated to explain spatial distribution of the turbid-water environment of Yongdam reservoir in July, 2005. Six stations were selected along a longitudinal axis of the reservoir and sampling was conducted in four depths of each station. Water temperature was showed the typical stratified structure by the effects of irradiance and inflow. Content of inorganic matter in suspended particles increased with the concentration of suspended particulate matter (SPM) due to the reduction of ash-free dry matter (AFDM). Turbidity ranged from 0.6 to 95.1 NTU and the maximum turbidity value of each station sharply increased toward downstream from upstream. The high turbidity layers were located at the depth between 12~16 m. Particle size ranged from 0.435 to $482.9{\mu}m$. day and silt-sized particles corresponded 91.9~98.9% and 1.1~8.0% in total numbers of SPM, respectively. Turbidity showed high correlations with clay (r=0.763, p<0.05) and silt content (r=0.870, p<0.05).Inorganic matter content (r=0.960, p<0.01) was more correlated with turbidity than organic matter (r=0.823, p<0.05). Mineral characterization using x-ray diffraction and electron probe microanalyzer demonstrated that the major minerals contained in the SPM were kaolinite, illite, vermiculite and smectite. As results of this study, surface water discharge as well as small size of the SPM were suggested as long-term interfering factors in settling down the turbid water in the reservoir.

정밀여과법 하수재이용 공정에서 오존의 전처리 효과에 관한 연구 (Effect of Ozonation in Microfiltration Membrane for Wastewater Reuse)

  • The Ozone oxidation process was applied to increase the efficiency of reuse process when treating the secondary effluent by the membrane system. This paper focus on decreasing efficiency of membrane fouling, because of membrane fouling reduction by ozone and evaluation of application of the ozone oxidation. The feed water was secondary effluent from BNR process. The result shows that the ozone pretreatment can reduce membrane fouling effectively. Also, the improvement of treated water quality was obvious. The reduction of the membrane fouling led decrease of following pollutant and increase of lnner adsorptive ability of hydrophilic organic matter and decrease of molecular weight. MF membrane process alone can meet the domestic reuse water standards. And ozone pretreatment process also can increase the removal rates of turbidity, COD, nitrogen, and color.

하수슬러지 가용화와 체외고분자물질(EPS)간의 관계 (The relation between sewage sludge solubilization and extracellular polymeric substances)

  • 본 연구는 알칼리·초음파 전처리를 통한 하수슬러지의 가용화 정도를 확인하기 위해 슬러지 가용화율과 VSS 감량화율을 측정하였다. 또한 슬러지 가용화와 EPS간의 관계를 확인하기 위해 LB-EPS(Loosely-Bound EPS), TB-EPS(Tightly-Bound EPS)를 측정하였다. 실험 결과, TS 1.0%, pH 12 조건에서 슬러지 가용화율은 27.7% 증가하였고, LB-EPS as Carbohydrate와 Protein은 각각 14.6, 13.3 mg/L/g TS가 증가하여 가용화에 따른 유기물의 변화와 유사한 경향을 나타내었다. 또한 VSS는 26.7% 감량되었고, TB-EPS as Carbohydrate와 Protein은 각각 15.7, 21.9 mg/L/g TS 용출되어 가용화에 따른 고형물의 변화 역시 유사한 경향을 나타내었다.

폐탄광폐수의 자연정화처리를 위한 유기성슬러지 적용 및 지속시간예측에 관한 연구 (A Study on Organic Sludge Application and Duration Estimate for Treating Natural Purification of Acidic Mine Drainage)

  • 다양한 환경조건에서 충진 유기성슬러지, 즉 하수슬러지와 제지슬러지의 분해측도를 추정하기 위한 모델을 개발하고 SRB 반응조의 운전시간에 따른 분해정도를 추정하여 탄소원으로 사용 가능한 유기성슬러지의 지속시간을 예측하였다. 유출 평균 TCOD는 28.7~63.2mg/L를 나타내어 유기성슬러지는 실험기간 동안에 그다지 많은 양의 탄소원을 공급하지 않았으나 지속성 측면에서 단기간내 다량의 유기물 분해에 의한 소모보다는 효율적인 것으로 평가되었다. $SO_4{^{2-}}$ 환원율이 증가함에 따라 고정경향이 가장 강한 Pb 제거율이 77~82% 로 가장 높았으며 그다음에 Fe가 33~59%의 제거율을 나타내었다. Al의 경우에는 수산화물로 침전하기 때문에 낮은 pH를 유지한 R-1~R-3에서는 약 $54{\pm}2%$ 정도의 제거율을 보였으나 높은 pH를 유지한 R-4의 경우에는 약 78%의 아주 높은 제거율을 보였다. Mn은 용해도적이 크기 때문에 다른 중금속에 비하여 아주 낮은 제거율을 나타내었다. 초기 SRB를 위한 탄소원의 공급과 장기간 지속성을 고려해볼때 하수슬러지에 비하여 세지슬러지의 혼합비율이 2배 많은 0.5가 보다 더 적합하며 이때 탄소완의 지속시간은 약 3.08년이었으나 유기성슬러지의 분해에는 다양한 인자가 작용하므로 안전율을 고려하여 적용해야할 것으로 평가되었다.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the factors affecting the optimization of coagulation hybrid UF membrane processes for the reuse of secondary effluent from sewage treatment plant. The experimental results obtained from the UF membrane process showed that organic colloids in the size range of $0.2{\mu}m{\sim}1.0{\mu}m$ caused the most substantial influence on the fouling of UF membrane. When using a coagulation pretreatment to UF membrane, alum dosage of 50mg/L resulted in the least reduction in membrane permeate flux. Also, for the rapid mixing process, in-line mixer type was more efficient for organic removal than back mixer type. Therefore, it may be concluded that coagulation-UF hybrid membrane process comparing to UF alone process showed not only higher removal efficiency of organic matter, but also substantial improvement of permeate flux of UF membrane.

  • South Dakota is an important agricultural state in the United States with annual cash receipts from agricultural products exceeding $9 billion dollars. This production is possible because of large areas of productive soils. This publication describes the general characteristics and qualities of the major soil groups recognized in South Dakota. The soil forming factors are briefly described, soil classification is introduced, and the genesis of typical Udalf and Ustoll soils are discussed. Soil management issues impacting the use of SD soils are considered. Long-term (>70 yrs) cultivation has significantly reduced surface soil organic carbon levels (>30% reduction) when compared to non-cultivated soil. Soil test phosphorus levels significantly increased in cultivated fields due to commercial P fertilization. The major long-term production problems for SD soils are conservation of soil moisture, organic matter and nitrogen losses, fertility management, and wind and water erosion control.

생물활성탄 유동상법에 의한 상수원수의 생물학적 전처리공정 (Pretreatment by the Process of BAC Fluidized Bed to produce the Biologically Stable Drinking Water)

  • This study was to investigate the effects of carbon loadings, temperature and expansion ratio on the waterborne organic removal by the biologically active GAC fluidized bed on a laboratory scale. The raw water to be treated comes from midstream of Han river. BACFB(Biological Activated Carbon Fluidized Bed) process was very effective to remove the biodegradable fraction of dissolved organic matter. The more carbon weighed, the more DOC removed in a range from 16.7 to 133.3 g/l. DOC and UV$_{254}$ were removed more than 40% and 20% above 20$\circ$C respectively. Between 5$\circ$C and 10$\circ$C, DOC and UV$_{254}$ were eliminated about 30% and 15% respectively. In general, even if the temperature was higher, DOC removal was a little sensitive, probably influenced by GAC's residual adsorption capacity. UV$_{254}$ reduction was little fluctuated in accordance with water temperature. The gradual increase in expansion ratio from 10% to 75% didn't greatly affect on the removal of DOC and UV$_{254}$. The expansion ratio, therefore, is not a key factor over the critical expansion ratio.

안산천에서 청보리 혼파조합이 사초 생산성과 토양 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Barley Mixtures on Forage Production and Soil Characteristics in Dry Riverbed of Ansancheon)

  • 하천부지에서 청보리와 월년생 두과작물을 혼파하여 사초 생산성과 토양 특성을 조사하였다. 안산천 하천부지에서는 청보리와 헤어리베치의 혼파조합이 다른 조합보다 건물 및 TDN 수량이 많았다. 그러나 수확 시 건물률은 청보리 단파가 가장 높았으며, 혼파조합 중에서는 청보리와 크림손클로버 조합이 다른 조합보다 높았다. 혼파조합의 조단백질 함량은 청보리와 헤어리베치 조합이 가장 높았으나 조지방과 TDN 함량은 가장 낮았다. 조사료 생산에 포함된 수질오염물질의 제거량은 청보리와 헤어리베치 조합이 유기물과 인산 모두에서 유의적으로 높았다(P<0.05). 안산천에서 청보리 혼파조합의 토양특성은 질소 고정능력이 우수한 청보리와 헤어리베치 조합이 다른 조합보다 토양의 전질소(TN) 함량이 높았다. 반면 토양의 유기물 함량은 청보리 단파가 가장 많고, 혼파조합 중에서는 청보리와 크림손 클로버 조합이 유기물 함량이 높았다. 토양의 유효인산 함량은 청보리와 크림손 클로버 및 유채 조합이 높고, 청보리와 헤어리 베치 조합은 낮았다. 토양의 CEC 함량은 청보리와 헤어리 베치 조합은 우수하였다. 이상의 결과를 종합해 볼 때 청보리와 헤어리베치 조합이 사초 생산성이 우수하고, 조단백질 함량이 높고, 토양의 인산 함량이 낮아 하천변의 환경개선에도 효과적인 것으로 판단되었다.
