The environmental characteristics of the habitats, the population structures, ecological niche, life traits and the population demography are used as an essential informations to the effective conservation plans about the target species. We first confirmed a total of 37 populations through 12 years of investigation on the extents, and investigated the environmental factors of habitats and the population structures of the 25 cohorts in 12 regions among them. And, we investigated the population dynamics targeting at 8 cohorts in the population of Daegwanryeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do. Along with this, we conducted 4 years of cultivation experiments and how pollinators affect the success of reproduction. The results shows that the Paeonia obovata Maxim. was found in a relatively wide range of habitats. For the population structures of the 25 cohorts, there were considerable differences among cohorts, including a case which showed relative stable structure and an extreme case in which only adults were found. The factor that affected the population dynamics during the investigation was thought as a forest gap created in the tree layer. In the cultivation experiment, seedlings grew well in a less soil organic matter. The seed setting rate and the number of seeds generated by visiting pollinators were higher trends. In conclusion, to understand the distribution of the Paeonia obovata Maxim., there needs to be investigated on the other factors that are involved in dispersal factors other than environmental factors, and thus we suggest the necessity of the research on the dispersal vectors. The current Paeonia obovata Maxim. population was thought as a process of expansion after the rapid reduction of the extents in the past. For the effective conservation of the Paeonia obovata Maxim., an endangered plant, we recommend to understand the species through the spatio-temporal expansion, and maintain the health of the ecosystem based on it.
This study was conducted to establish a low-input fertilization technique and increase of fertilization efficiency using the band spotty applicator(1999-2000) during the cultivation of mulching for chinese cabbage(Brassia campestris L.). The obtained results such as nitrogen efficiency, yield and soil improvement after cultivation of chinese cabbage were as follows. The content of $NO_3-N$ in soil increased in band spotty fertilization(BSF) by increasing application rate from the beginning stage to the middle stage. The content of total nitrogen increased but content of organic matter, available phosphate and exchangeable potassium decreased in comparison with the soil before experiment. Growth rate of Chinese cabbage increased in band spotty fertilization plot and uptake amount of nitrogen fertilized for chinese cabbage increased by increasing of the application rate. N use efficiency was higher by 5-21% in band spotty fertilization plot than in conventional fertilization(CF) plot. Yield of chinese cabbage increased by 16% in 70% band spotty fertilization plot and increased by 20% in 100% band spotty fertilization plot. It was found that 70% band spotty fertilization was more effective as fertilization method to reduce both environmental pollution and chemical nitrogen fertilizer in plastic film mulching cultivation.

The study purpose was to examine an effect of zero emission of excess sludge on biological reactor and treated water quality within the biological reactor in the process of biological treatment combined with excess sludge reduction system with ozone. Under an ozone injection rate 0.03 g $O_3/g$ SS, Sludge Disintegration Number (SDN) 3 and less than pH 4 as pre-treatment process, it was possible to maintain a stable biological treatment process without sludge disintegration. In the test of $OUR_{max}$, of sludge, its value was hardly under the condition of ozone injection rate 0.03 g $O_3/g$ SS. There were almost no changes of MLVSS/MLSS within biological reactor followed by a solubilization of excess sludge. Accumulation of microorganism within biological reactor was also not observed. After solubilization of excess sludge, an increase for organic matter and SS concentrations of an effluent was not observed and T-N concentration was reduced by increasing nitrification and denitrification rate within biological reactor. Most of T-P was not removed by zero emission of excess sludge and was leaked by being included in effluents.
Air pollution trends in Japan between 1970 and 2012 were analyzed, and the impact of air pollution countermeasures was evaluated. Concentrations of CO decreased from 1970 to 2012, and in 2012, the Japanese environmental quality standard (EQS) for CO was satisfied. Concentrations of $SO_2$ dropped markedly in the 1970s, owing to use of desulfurization technologies and low-sulfur heavy oil. Major reductions in the sulfur content of diesel fuel in the 1990s resulted in further decreases of $SO_2$ levels. In 2012, the EQS for $SO_2$ was satisfied at most air quality monitoring stations. Concentrations of $NO_2$ decreased from 1970 to 1985, but increased from 1985 to 1995. After 1995, $NO_2$ concentrations decreased, especially after 2006. In 2012, the EQS for $NO_2$ was satisfied at most air quality monitoring stations, except those alongside roads. The annual mean for the daily maximum concentrations of photochemical oxidants (OX) increased from 1980 to 2010, but after 2006, the $98^{th}$ percentile values of the OX concentrations decreased. In 2012, the EQS for OX was not satisfied at most air quality monitoring stations. Non-methane hydrocarbon (NMHC) concentrations generally decreased from 1976 to 2012. In 2011, NMHC concentrations near roads and in the general environment were nearly the same. The concentration of suspended particulate matter (SPM) generally decreased. In 2011, the EQS for SPM was satisfied at 69.2% of ambient air monitoring stations, and 72.9% of roadside air-monitoring stations. Impacts from mineral dust from continental Asia were especially pronounced in the western part of Japan in spring, and year-round variation was large. The concentration of $PM_{2.5}$ generally decreased, but the EQS for $PM_{2.5}$ is still not satisfied. The air pollution trends were closely synchronized with promulgation of regulations designed to limit pollutant emissions. Trans-boundary OX and $PM_{2.5}$ has become a big issue which contains global warming chemical species such as ozone and black carbon (so called SLCP: Short Lived Climate Pollutants). Cobeneficial reduction approach for these pollutants will be important to improve both in regional and global atmospheric environmental conditions.
When $[U-^{14}C]$ 3,3', 4,4'-tetrachloroazobenzene$([U-^{14}C]\;TCAB)$ was added to the $MM_2$ medium as a sole carbon source for the isolated microorganisms and incubated, some radioactive metabolites were detected by autoradiography. No $^{14}CO_2$ was evolved from $[U-^{14}C]\;TCAB$ which was added as a sole carbon source to an organic matter-free soil inoculated by the isolates, wetted with the $MM_2$ salt medium, and incubated at $30^{\circ}C$. One of the metabolites in pure culture of Achromobacter group VD, which was isolated and identified, was tentatively identified as a compound of m/z 250 by means of GC/MS. The possible pathways for its formation are thought to include dechlorination from the TCAB structure, hydroxylation, ortho fission of the two benzene rings, and reduction of the resulting carboxyl group.
The aim of this study was to investigate the accumulation of metallic elements and the control effect of marine pollution caused by ocean dumping in the sediments at a waste disposal area in the Yellow Sea. In July 2009, concentrations of organic matter and metallic elements (Al, Fe, As, Cd, Cr, Co, Hg, Ni, Mn, Pb, and Zn) were measured in surface sediments at the site. The ignition loss (IL) in the surface sediments showed a mean value of 15.4%, about 1.5 times higher than the mean value of the sediments in the coastal areas of Korea. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) at some disposal sites exceeded 20 mg $O_2/g{\cdot}dry$, which signifies the initial concentration of marine sediment pollutants in Japan. The disposal sites contain higher concentrations of Cr, Cu and Zn than the sediments of bays and estuaries that might be contaminated. The magnitude of both metal enrichment factors (EF) and adverse biological effects suggest that pollution with Cr and Ni occurred due to the dumping of waste in the study area. In addition, the geoaccumulation index (Igeo) showed that the surface sediments were moderately contaminated. By the mid-2000s, when the amount of waste dumped at this site was the highest, the concentration of metallic elements was higher than ever recorded. On the other hand, in 2008-09, the need for environmental management was relatively low compare with the peak. As a result, the quality of marine sediment has been enhanced, considering the effect of waste reduction and natural dilution in the disposal area.
The aluminum composition of the citrus orchard soils (volcanic ash soil) in Cheju Island was studied. The content of extractable Al was high, especially for the sub-soil. However the exchangeable Al was relatively low : it was only one-tenth of the extractable Al content. The exchangeable Al of the citrus orchard soils decreased with increasing number of years of cultivation. This has resulted from an increase in pH. The content of the extractable Al of the citrus orchard soils also decreased with the increase in number of years of cultivation. This is related to the fact that the application of phosphate fertilizers led to a reduction in Al activity. Therefore, the extractable Al showed a highly significant correlation with the available phosphorus in the top soil. However it was not significantly affected by phosphates in the sub-soil where the available phosphorus was extremely low. The extractable Al content strongly correlated with the organic matter and pH(NaF) in the sub-soil, but the correlation was less significant in the top soil. This suggests that large amounts of the extractable Al are released from the hydrous oxides of Al and that the organically complexed form in the sub-soil and non-extractable due to the reactions with phosphates applied to the top soil.
Cultivation area of the plastic film-house has been continuously increased with the increase of consumers' income. Intensive land use without fallowing or crop rotation caused severe problem such as salt accumulation in soils and in turn retarded growth and low productivity. This study was carried out to solve them derived from longterm intensive farming practices. Seven farmers who are practicing plastic film-house cultivation were recommended for case study by municipal government and selected for their excellency of cultivation and soil management. The cultivation periods of these systems were in the range of 5 to 40 years in the regions mainly located in alluvial soil cultivated with cucumber, tomato and red pepper. The soils texture of the excellent farmers' fields were silt loam or sandy loam, ranged from 7 to 15 percents of clay contents. Soil bulk density, depth of plowing layer and soil aggregates contents of the farmers' soils were 0.89, 23.1 cm, 61.6% whereas those in neighboring soils were 1.10, 17.8 cm, 54.2 %, respectively. And pH, OM and $NO_3-N$ of the farmers' soils also were better than those of neighboring soils. There was no difference in population densities of nematode between the good farmers' and neighboring soils, but actinomyces and Fusarium densities of recommended farmers' soils were better than neighboring soils. The major farming practices by the good farmers were characterized by deep plowing with flooding, amendment of crude organic matter, and reduction of chemical fertilizer application before transplanting, and also drip irrigation and liquid manure application after planting. They also conducted solar sterilization with or without flooding, removal of plastic films during rainy days and culturing rice or corn as rotation crops to avoid the problems mentioned above.
This study was carried out to establish low-input fertilization and seeding technique using the simultaneous with seeding and fertilizer application machine and band spotty applicator which were manufactured for experiment during cultivation of mulching for peanut(Arachis hypogaea L.). The labor hour for seeding by simultaneous with seeding and fertilizing machine was appeared over 90% reduction effect compared with control plot($17.3hr\;10a^{-1}$). In band spotty fertilization plots, the emergence date was delayed about 4 days and the seedling stand rate was decreased 11~18% compared with control plot(man power). The content of total nitrogen of soil after experiment was increased while the contents of organic matter, available phosphate and exchangeable potassium were decreased than before experiment. The content of nitrogen forming nitrate was increased in band spotty fertilization(BSF) plots by increasing the amount of applied fertilizer from early growth stage till the middle growth stage. Growth rate was increased in band spotty fertilization plots and the absorbed amount of phosphate and potassium for peanut were increased in 70% band spotty fertilization plot compared with control plot. Yield of peanut was increased 70% in band spotty fertilization plot due to high pod kernel ratio and ripened pod rate compared with control plot($3,150kg\;ha^{-1}$). It was found that 70% band spotty fertilization was more effective as fertilization method to reduce both environmental pollution and chemical nitrogen fertilizer in plastic film mulching cultivation of peanut.

This study was conducted to investigate survival of Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) on stainless steel and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and its transfer from two material to lettuce. The stainless steel and PVC were innoculated with B. cereus and stored at 6 combination conditions (temperature : $20^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$, relative humidity (RH) : 43%, 69%, and 100%). Although the total numbers of B. cereus at RH 43% and RH 69% were reduced by 3.53-4.00 log CFU/coupon within 24 h regardless of material type, the spore numbers of B. cereus was lasted at 3.0 log CFU/coupon. When two materials were stored at $30^{\circ}C$, RH 100%, the spore numbers of B. cereus was rapidly increased by 3.0 log CFU/coupon. In addition, the reduction rate of B. cereus was decreased in the presence of organic matter. Transfer rate of B. cereus from surface of stainless steel and PVC to lettuce was increased by 10 times in the presence of water on the lettuce surface. As a result of this study, the presence of B. cereus on produce contact surfaces can increase the risk of cross-contamination. Thus, it is important that the packing table and conveyer belt in post harvest facility should be properly washed and sanitized after working to prevent cross-contamination.
