  • 산업이 발달함에 따라 휘발성 유기 화합물(VOC : Volatile Organic Compound)의 배출이 급증하고 있다. 이러한 VOC들은 대기중에서 산화물과 공존시 태양광의 작용을 받아 광화학반응을 일으켜 오존등의 광화학 산화성 물질을 생성시켜 광화학 스모그를 유발시키고 일부 VOC는 그 자체로서도 암을 유발시키는등 인체에 좋지 않은 영향을 미치게 된다. 이러한 VOC중 상당수는 대기중에 미량만 존재하게 되더라도 악취를 유발시켜 불쾌감을 주게된다. (중략)

  • 매립지 내부에서 진행되는 혐기성 분해로 인한 폐기물의 부패현상은 일반적으로 악취와 관련한 직접적인 대기오염문제에서부터 메탄과 이산화탄소와 같은 온실기체의 발생 등과 같이 기후환경변화와 관련된 문제에 이르기까지 매우 심각한 오염원으로 인식되고 있다. 특히 매립지 내부의 가스상 오염물질들의 누적을 억제하기 위하여 설치하는 배출공에서는 이산화탄소나 메탄과 같은 온실기체 이외에도 약 80여 종에 이르는 다양한 휘발성유기화합물질 (Volatile Organic Compound, 이하 VOC) 성분들이 검출되기도 하였다 (Young and Parker, 1983).   • VOC(volatile organic compound)는 도료제조, 자동차, 선박의 도색, 인쇄, 염색 공정에서 주로 발생하는 휘발성 유기화합물로서 호흡기로 들어가면 중추신경 등 주요 기관의 장애를 일으킬 수 있으며, 질소화합물과 광화학반응을 일으켜 오존을 유발하는 위험물질이다. 정부에서는 1991년 대기환경보존법을 제정하여 유기용제의 배출을 규제하고 있고, 이 법에 따라 금년부터 석유화학정제업, 저유소에 VOC 방지시설을 의무적으로 설치해야 한다.(중략)

  • The crystals of ${\beta}-and\;{\beta}'-(ET)_2ICl_2$ have a modified structure of organic superconductor ${\beta}(ET)_2I_3$. These salts possess strictly different physical properties : the ${\beta}$ phase is a metal but the ${\beta}'$ phase is a semiconductor. Our band electronic structure calculations show that the ${\beta}$ phase is somewhat anisotropic 2D metal and the ${\beta}'$ phase with the 1D character in electronic structure is magnetic insulating, in good agreement with experimental indications.

  • Four compounds containing two 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yloxyl radicals were synthesized. They are all chemically bonded with squaric moieties. The diradical compounds show fundamentally the paramagnetic behaviors satisfying the theoretical magnetic susceptibility according to Curie's law. A diradical compound of salf-form 4 however shows a relatively strong antiferromagnetic interaction in comparison with other reported organic radicals. The antiferromagnetic interaction of diradical 4 approximates a value of J/k= -50 K by the theoretical analysis of its temperature dependence.

  • RNA plays an important role in numerous biological processes but little is known about the interactions between small organic molecules and RNA. Our previous work has shown that the heterodimeric compound designed by conjugation with neomycin and loop-specific chemical bind to the stem-loop structured RNA motifs. In the present study, heterodimer was used, in a reverse way, as a probe to identify structured RNA motifs. (omitted)

  • Four plausible precursors (21, 22, 24, and 25), just prior to formation of the oxathiazepine ring in eudistomin, were synthesized by the Pictet-Spengler condensation of N-hydroxytryptamine (15) or N-hydroxytryptophan ester (19) with cysteinal derivatives (5 and 10). In the case of the parent compound (21), one of these four precursors, treatment with dihalomethane in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst gave an eudistomin analogue (26) having the oxathiazepine ring in 35-50% yield.

  • The model compounds of Vitamin $B_1$ 3-benzyl-4-methylthiazolium bromide, (1), 3, 4-dimethylthiazolium iodide (2) and 2-($\alpha$-hydroxyethyl)-3-benzyl-4-methylthiazolium bromide (3) were prepared by the organic synthesis. Colorimetric determination with phosphotungstic acid showed an increase of $1.1{\sim}1.2$ folds with compound (1) and $1.5{\sim}1.9$ folds with compound (3) when readings were carried out after an overnight, compared with immediate readings. Colorimetry with 2.6-dibromoquinone chloroimide yielded the compound (1) being $2.2{\sim}2.5$ folds higher than the compound (3). The half wave potentials and diffusion currents of anodic and cathodic waves of polarography with the same concentration of the compounds (1), (2) and (3) also resulted in different values of their waves. Therefore, it was a firm conclusion that any values obtained from quantitative analysis with this model compounds (1), (2) and (3) were not directly applicable to those of $B_1$.
