Modification of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) films by using hydroxylamine (HA) and hydrazine to produce hydroxyl and amine groups, respectively, and to introduce cross-linking of PAN polymers was studied. Modified PAN films obtained by HA and/or hydrazine treatment including a successive or a simultaneous process were analyzed by the degree of conversion, water and N,N'-dimethylformamide (DMF) swelling ratio, FTIR spectra, atom content, and thermal analysis data. PAN films reacted with HA showed increased hydrophilicity and low dimensional stability in water. Hydrazine treatment gave PAN films high dimensional stability of low DMF swelling. Although the DMF swelling ratio of the modified PAN films was dramatically decreased by the successive treatment of hydrazine and HA, the introduction of the hydrophilic functional groups was limited due to the cross-linking. Simultaneous treatment of HA and hydrazine was the most effective method to increase hydrophilicity of PAN films with a high dimensional stability.
This study covers synthetic effect of the various hydrothermal treatments on formation of artificially made kaolinite mineral. The hydrothermal treatment includes the temperature treatment with time duration, addition of seeds, particle size of the starting material used, pH variation and the different types of organic acids. A colloidal silica and alumina sol which are commercially available are used for this study. A colloidal silica and alumina sol are mixed by the atomic ratio of Al/Si = 1, based on the theoretical kaolinite composition and calcined at $600^{\circ}C$ for 8 hours duration. It was found that the kaolinitic clay mineral was well developed; thereby, the different patterns of crystalline mineral are appeared. Spherical type as a crystal form was distinctively formed at the temperature of 20$0^{\circ}C$ to 25$0^{\circ}C$ with short duration time, while platy type as a crystal was highly yielded at 300~35$0^{\circ}C$. Moreover, by adding more than 20 wt% of seed as the natural kaolinitic clay to the starting material is widely distributed and developed when 2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ or less particle size of the starting material is used; also, when they are heat-treated at the temperature of 25$0^{\circ}C$ with 5 hours duration. With respect of the effect of pH variation on formation of the synthetic kaolinite minerals, the crystalline minerals are highly yielded at less than pH 2 and gradually diminished at more than pH9. Regarding to the effect of different acids on development of the kaolinite mineral, the organic acids with high chelating capacity produces good formation of crystalline minerals; whereas, amine radical-(NH2) is not an effective agent to generate the crystalline minerals.
A series of organic-inorganic hybrids, PCL/EP/$SiO_2$, involving epoxy resin and triethoxysilane-terminated polycaprolactone elastomer (PCL-TESi) were prepared via polymerization of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) with amine curing agent KB-2 and sol-gel process of PCL-TESi. The curing reactions were started from the initially homogeneous mixture of DGEBA, KB-2 and the PCL-TESi. The organicinorganic hybrids containing up to 4.95% (wt) of $SiO_2$ were obtained and characterized by FT-IR, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA). It was experimentally shown that the swelling property in toluene, morphologies and thermal properties of the resulting hybrids were quite dependent on the contents of $SiO_2$. The crosslink network density decreases with increasing of the PCL-TESi. And in TEM, the phase separated morphology of these hybrids was found, which resulted from the coagulation of Si-O-Si networks resulting from $-Si(OC_2H_5)_3$ of PCL-TESi self-curing by hydrolytic silanol condensation, with the advancement of the curing reaction in the modified epoxy resin systems. Meanwhile, the change of the $SiO_2$ content made the morphologies changed from aggregated particles of Si-O-Si in the hybrid to nanocluster of interconnected Si-O-Si particles, then to aggregated Si-O-Si dispersing in the continuous cured epoxy phase again, and last to co-continuous interpenetrating network. The glass transition behavior of the hybrid material was cooperative motion of large chain segments, which were hindered by the inorganic Si-O-Si network. And in TG analysis, the characteristic temperature at 5% of weight loss was evidently increased from $120.5^{\circ}C$ of pure cured epoxy to $277.6^{\circ}C$ of 3.84% (wt) of $SiO_2$ modified epoxy due to the existence of Si-O-Si when PCL-TESi was added in the hybrid.
Water solubility of conjugated polymers may offer many applications. Potential applications of water-soluble conjugated polymers include the polymer light-emitting diode and new materials for nano and micro hollow-capsules, and bio- or chemo-sensors. We synthesized neutral polyfluorenes containing bromo-alkyl groups by the palladium catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction. Bromo-alkyl side groups in neutral polyfluorenes were quaternized by tri-methyl amine solution. The electrochemical and optical properties of water-soluble conjugated polymers are discussed. This novel synthesized water-soluble conjugated polymers were used as a interfacial dipole layer between active layer and metal cathode in polymer solar cell for enhancement of open-circuit voltage (Voc), which is one of the most critical factors in determining device characteristics. We also investigated the device performance of polymer solar cell with different metal cathode such as Al, Ag, Au and Cu. In polymer solar cell, novel cationic water-soluble conjugated polymers were inserted between active layer and high-work function cathode (Al, Ag, Au and Cu).

Highly ordered pure-silica MCM-41 materials possessing well-defined morphology have been successfully prepared with surfactant used as a template. The fabrication of mesoporous silica has received considerable attention due to the need to develop more efficient materials' for catalysis, separations, and chemical sensing. The surface modified MCM-41 was used as anadsorbent for biomolecules. Silica-supported organic groups and DNA adsorption on surface modified MCM-41 were investigated by FT-IR and UV-Vis spectrometer, respectively. The use of MCM-41 as the modification of electrode surfaces were investigated electrochemical properties of metal mediators with biomolecules. The modified ITO electrodes increased peak currents for a redox process of $[Ru(bpy)_3]^{2+}$ relative to the bare electrode. The electrochemical detection of DNA by cyclic voltammetry when the current is saturated in the presence of the mediator appeared more sensitive due to a higher catalytic current on the MCM-41 supported electrodes modified by carboxylic acid functional groups. The carboxyl or amine groups on the surface of MCM-41 interact and react with the $-NH_2$ groups of guanine and backbone, respectively. Highly ordered mesoporous materials with organic groups could find applications as DNA sensors.
This paper addresses recent status and trends of carbon dioxide capture technologies using dry sorbents in the flue gas. The advantages of dry sorbent $CO_2$ capture technology are broader operating temperature range, less energy loss, less waste water, less corrosion problem, and natural properties of solid wastes. Recently, U.S.A. and Korea have been developing processes capturing $CO_2$ from real coal flue gas as well as sorbents improving sorption capacity to decrease total $CO_2$ capture cost. New class of dry sorbents have been developed such as chemisorbents with alkali metals of which material cost is low, amines physically adsorbed on silica supports, amines covalently tethered to the silica support, carbon-supported amines, polymer-supported amines, amine-containing solid organic resins and metal-organic framework. The breakthrough is needed in the materials on dry sorbents to decrease capture cost.

This study describes the influence of the amount of curing agent and curing temperature on the kinetics of polyurethane elastomers. The urethane prepolymer series was prepared by reacting toluene diisocyanate with polytetramethylene ether glycol at $80^{\circ}C$ for 1 h, and 4,4'-methylene bis(2-chloroaniline) was used as the curing agent. The ratio of the amine group of the curing agent to the isocyanate group of the urethane prepolymer was controlled from 0.85 to 1.05 at curing temperatures ranging from 80 to $120^{\circ}C$. The curing rate of the urethane prepolymer was monitored by observing the change in heat flow during the curing process using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). As either the content of curing agent or the curing temperature was higher, the conversion rate to the polyurethane elastomer was high. The DSC results were compared with those obtained from using real-time FT-IR.

Low foaming scouring agents (LSSA) were prepared by blending of amine salt of dodecylbenzene sulfone, poly (PO-b-EO) glycol, Newpol PP-2000, MJU-100, ethylene glycol and organic solvent. As the results of several tests, LSSA-2 showed good scouring effect, penetrating ability and emulsifiability, and showed not much water pollution. The foaming power of LSSA-2 measured by Ross & Miles method was 11mm foam height immediately after foaming. And the foaming power of LSSA-2 measured by Ross & Clark method were less than 310mm foam height at $30^{\circ}C$, 17mm at $80^{\circ}C$. As a result, LSSA-2 was proved as a good foaming scouring agent.

Organic fluorine chemistry produces many useful products. This paper elucidates the reaction of ethyl-4,4- difluoro-2-iodo-5-oxo-5-phenylpentanoate (2) with primary amines in a one-pot scheme. The reaction produced a series of β-fluoropyrrole derivatives at ambient temperatures. In this reaction, the less bulky the primary amine the higher was the resultant yield. When (2) and aqueous methylamine (40%) were allowed to react below 0 oC, 5-(ethoxycarboxyl)-1-methyl-3,3-difluoro-2-hydroxy-2-phenylpyrrolidine, an intermediate molecule for 2-ethyl-4-flouro-1-methyl-5-phenylpyrrole-2-carboxylate (5), was isolated first. Then, (5) reacted with hydroperchloric acid and acetic anhydride to form 5-(ethoxycarboxyl)-1-methyl-3,3-difluoro-2- phenylpyrrolinium perchlorate (6), which was converted to 2-ethyl-4-flouro-1-methyl-5-phenylpyrrole-2- carboxylate gradually in the presence of a base. Our experiments demonstrate that the formation of 2-ethyl-4- flouro-1-methyl-5-phenylpyrrole-2-carboxylate occurs via both one-pot schemes and stepwise pathways, depending on the reaction conditions. The isolation and characterization of the isolated intermediate (6) suggest an anionic pathway for this reaction.
Using nanotechnology, magnetic nanoparticles of iron oxide were produced via co-precipitation method and followed modification with organic compounds. In the next step, functionalized monomer was provided via coupling ${\beta}$-cyclodextrine and allylamine onto modified magnetic nanoparticles. These nanoparticles were used to establish the adsorption rate of celecoxib. Magnetic nanoparticles are modified by (3-mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane. Nano-adsorbent was characterized by analytical and spectroscopic methods, such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, thermo-gravimetric analysis, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Laboratory parameters, such as the kinetics of adsorption isotherms, pH, reaction temperature and capacity were optimized. Finally, by using this nano-adsorbent in the optimized condition, extraction of celecoxib from biological samples as urine, drug matrix and blood plasma was carried out by high performance liquid chromatography with sensitivity and high accuracy.
