We have recently reported that the continuous exposure of rats to a concrete building environment under cool temperatures had adverse effects on general health parameters and embryo-fetal development. This study examined to compare the potential effects of concrete and wood building environments on pregnant dams and embryo-fetal development in rats. Groups of 10 mated females were exposed to polycarbonate (control), concrete, or wood cages from gestational days (GD) 0 to 20 under cool temperatures $(11.9\sim12.3^{\circ}C)$. All the females underwent a caesarean section on GD 20, and their fetuses were examined for any morphological abnormalities. The temperatures in the cages were similar in all groups but the relative humidity in the concrete and wood groups were higher than in the control group. The concentration of volatile organic compounds in the wood group was higher than in the control group. In the concrete group, maternal effects manifested as an increase in the incidence of clinical signs, a lower body weight, and a decrease in the thymus and ovary weights. Developmental effects included increased post-implantation loss and decreased litter size. Infrared thermal analysis showed that the skin temperature of the rats in the concrete group was lower than that in the control group. In contrast, there were no exposure-related adverse effects on the maternal and developmental parameters in the wood group. Overall, the exposure of pregnant rats to a concrete building environment under cool temperatures has adverse effects on the clinical signs, body weight, skin temperature, organ weight, and embryo-fetal development. On the other hand, exposure to a wood building environment does not have any adverse effects in rats.
Diaphragm injuries are very important because, if both thoracic and abdominal viscera are damaged, a combination of shock and acute respiratory distress may develop. It can be highly lethal. This evaluation was based on the reviews of 17 cases of traumatic diaphragm injuries treated at the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Seoul Adventist Hospital during 5 years from March 1993 to February 1997. The mean age of the patients was 37.2 years and sex ratio was 3.2:1 with male dominance. Blunt trauma(N=5, Rt.=4, Lt.= 1) was 29.5%, penetrating trauma(N= 12, Rt.=5, Lt.=7) was 70.5%. Dyspnea(76%) was the most common symptom. Blunt trauma(9.8$\pm$3.7 Cm) was larger than the penetrating trauma(3.2$\pm$ 1.3 Cm)(P<0.05) in the size(mean$\pm$SD) of the injury. All of the patients had associated injuries and repaired immediatley with thoracic approach 11 cases(64%), abdominal approaih 3 cases(18%) and thoracoabdominal approach 3 cases(18%). f cases of penetrating diaphragmatic t auma was diagnosed on the operation of other organ injury Now we suggest that diaphragmatic injury should be suspected in all patients with penetrating as well as blunt injury of the chest and abdomen to protect the patient from its late complications.

Purpose : The bladder volume change was measured using ultrasonography for helping decrease the side effects and other organ variations in the location of radiation therapy for cervical cancer patients. An experiment was performed targeting patients who were treated with radiation therapy at PNUH within the period from September to December 2015. Materials and Methods : To maintain the bladder volume, each patient was instructed to drink 500 cc water before and after CT simulation, 60 minutes before the dry run. Also, the bladder volume was measured in each patient CT scan, and a 3D conformal therapy plan was designed. The bladder volumes measured before and after the CT simulation, dry run, and radiation treatment planning were compared and analyzed. Results : The average volume and average error of the bladder that were obtained from the measurement based on the CT scan images had the lowest standard deviation in the CT simulation. This means that the values that were obtained before and after the CT simulation were statistically relevant and correlative. Moreover, the bladder volume measured via ultrasonography was larger size, the average volume in the CT scan. But the values that were obtained Dry run and after the CT simulation were not statistically relevant. Conclusion : Drinking a certain amount of water helps a patient maintain his/her bladder volume for a dry run. Even then, it is difficult to maintain the bladder volume for the dry run. Also, whether or not the patients followed the directions for the dry run correctly is important.
when the radiation therapy of chest and abdomen, evaluation of the tumor motion and the data was used to minimize damage to normal tissues by separating the tumor and normal tissue and maximize tumor therapeutic effect. Lung and liver cancer each 20 patients based on the 50% top phase using 4D-CT simulation and Light speed-16 of shooting equipment 30 ~ 70 % gating phase interval and 0 ~90 % movement in the full phase interval was measured. If the full phase 0 ~ 90% with gating phase 30~70% of tumors in the liver and lung is shown the biggest difference compared to the motion and the size of the GTV was the largest difference in the I(inferior), full phase 0~90% degree of tumor motion only when a relatively large, gating phase to 30~70% of the tumor when the movement has been found that the reduced average 7.1mm. In the 4D-CT simulation comparing the motion value when the full phase 0~90 % and gating phase 30~70 % when the motion value, twice in the gating phase 30~70 % more than full phase 0~90 % showed a small movement value. The exposure to normal tissues, based on the results obtained from the 4D-CT simulation can be significantly alleviated, After treatment will reduce pain and disability in patients with radiation is expected to be able to effective treatment.
Interleukin-2 (IL-2), a glycoprotein mainly secreted by CD4+ T helper Iymphocytes, has been developed to use recombinant cytokine to augment the immune response against cancer since IL-2 not only stimulates T Iymphocytes but also enhances natural killer (NK) cell activity. In order to evaluate the immunological safety of recombinant mouse IL-2 (rmIL-2) in cancer therapy, renal cell carcinoma was established in the flank by s.c. injection of renca cell line. Tumor-bearing BALB/c mice were treated with I.p. injections with $2{\times}10^5$ Lu rmIL-2. Even though the tumor size was diminished, there were not significant recovery of body and relative lymphoid organ weights including thymic atrophy in rmIL-2 immunotherapy. Distribution ratios of T cell subsets in thymus were analysed using flow cytometry. Without regard to dosage of rmIL-2, the ratio of CD3+CD4-CD8- T cells was increased in accordance with survival of solid tumor but that of CD4+CD8+ T cells was decreased dramatically. Emergence of autoantibodies (ANA, anti-dsDNA, and anti-histone) in blood was measured after rmIL-2 treatment. The results showed that the levels of ANA and anti-dsDNA did not significantly changed, but the level of anti-histone was increased significantly owing to rmIL-2 therapy. These results indicate rmIL-2 immunotherapy is to induce the autoimmune potential, and the anti-histone measurement as a biomarker of autoimmunity is useful in cancer immunotherapy.
96 patients underwent cardiac valve replacement for valvular heart diseases consecutively between February 1986 to February 1990 in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery of Yeungnam University Hospital. The follow up period was between 6 months and 4.5 years postoperatively[mean 23.4$\pm$13.1 months]. 75 cases got mitral valve replacement, 6 cases, aortic valve replacement, 15 cases, double valve replacement. 30[31.2%] patients were male and 66[68.8%] were female and the age ranged from 14 to 66 years old. Early hospital death within 30 days postoperation were 5 patients[5.2%], consisting of by low cardiac output in 2, infective endocarditis in 1, multiple organ failure with sepsis in 1 patient. There was no late postoperative death. Most common early postoperative complication was wound disruption [8.7%] and then low cardiac output, pneumothorax, pleural effusion in order. Most common late postoperative complications were minor bleeding episodes[8.7%] related to anticoagulant therapy which were consisted of frequent epistaxis in 3, gum bleeding in 2, hemorrhagic gastritis in 1, hypermenorrhea in 1, hematoma in right arm in 1 patient. Valve-related complications included valve thrombosis [1.6%/ patient-year], valve failure due to pannus formation[1.1% /patient-year], prosthetic valve endocarditis[1, 1%o/patient-year] and minor anticoagulant hemorrhage[4.4% /patient-year]. 5 cases of reoperations were performed in 4 patients due to valve failure and all of them were in the mitral positions[2.7% /patient-year]. Cardiothoracic ratios in the chest X-ray decreased at the 6th month and 1st year postoperation in all patients. But in New York Heart Association[NYHA] functional class IV, no change in cardiothoracic ratio was found between 6 months and 1 year postoperation. In the echocardiogram, the size of the cardiac chambers decreased, but ejection fraction increased postoperatively in each functional class. In the electrocardiogram, decreases were found in the incidence of atrial fibrillation, left atrial enlargement, left ventricular hypertrophy with right bundle branch block increasing postoperatively in each functional class. The actuarial survival rate was 98.4% for all patients, 98.7% for mitral valve replacement, 83.8% for aortic valve replacement, and 80% for double valve replacement at the end of a 4.5 year follow up period. Meanwhile the actuarial freedom rate was 91.5% for prosthetic valve endocarditis, 91.6% for thromboembolism, 89.0% for prosthetic valve failure and 83.7% for minor anticoagulant hemorrhage. Preoperative NYHA class III and IV were 75% of all patients, but 95% of all patients were up graded to NYHA class I and II postoperatively.

Dentigerous cyst is one of the most prevalent types of odontogenic cysts in the jaw. Usually dentigerous cysts begin to develope through an accumulation of fluid between remnants of the enamel organ and subjacent tooth crown which is developing or submerged. The teeth most often involved are mandibular third molars, maxillary canines, and mandibular premolars. And the cysts usually occur in the second or third decade of life. The treatment of dentigerous cysts-enucleation, marsupialization, and fenestration-is dictated by the size, environmental structures of the lesion, and desirability of conserving involved tooth. Marsupialization is a conservative technique which allows the reduction or elimination of cystic lesion by making it an accessory compartment of the oral cavity in the case where complete enucleation is not desirable. Marsupialization is thought to be the most suitable method of treatment for the conserving of the involved tooth, thus guiding eruption of it. We report the positive outcome got from marsupialization in dentigerous cysts with review of literature.
Objectives : We evaluated anti-hyperlipidemia effect of Gyeongshinganjeehwan (GGEx) in high fat induced obese male micro-pigs. Methods : 7 month-old micro-pigs are fed with normal (n = 3) or high fat diet (n = 18) for 12 weeks. The pig revealed obesity in high fat diet were divided into 2 groups (n = 5 each) and vehicle (OMP) and Gyeongshingangjeehwan (GGEx, 616.7 mg/kg/day) were administrated for 1 month. We monitored the changes in body weight and measured plasma cholesterol, triglyceride, free fatty acid, GOT and, GPT after 1 month. The visceral fat were measured with computerized tomography and weights of various organs were measured after sacrifice. Results : 1. GGEx group had significantly reduced body weight gain than obese control group in statistics. 2. GGEx group didn't significantly differ from obese control group in blood total cholesterol, blood LDL-cholesterol, blood triglyceride. but it's data were similar to normal control group. 3. GGEx group had prominantly reduced visceral fat than obese control group in computerized tomography. 4. Blood GOT and GPT didn't differ from between groups. The organ weight were not significant different. And it is normal in size and colour of visceral organs. Conclusions : It is concluded that GGEx has anti-hyperlipidemia effect by improving visceral fat and access to security.
GATA binding protein 6 (GATA6) is a transcription factor that is expressed in the early blastocyst stage and controls the expression of important genes in the differentiation and development of the heart, pancreas, and intestine. This study confirmed the role of GATA6 in cell differentiation and organ development using mouse embryonic stem cells and zebrafish, respectively. First, the mouse embryonic stem cells were differentiated into pacemaker cardiomyocytes. An RT-PCR analysis revealed that the expression of the GATA6 gene was greatly increased from day 4 of differentiation. The expression of GATA6 was upregulated prior to increased expression of NK2 homeobox 5 (Nkx2.5) and myocyte enhancer factor 2C (MEF2C), which are critical transcription factors involved in regulating heart formation. To examine the role of GATA6 in development, GATA6 morpholino was microinjected into zebrafish embryos. Knockdown of GATA6 expression significantly decreased the heart size and heart rate in the zebrafish compared to a control. In addition, the brains were degenerated in the GATA6 morpholino-injected zebrafish. Acridine orange staining showed that knockdown of GATA6 expression increased apoptotic cells in the brain. Interestingly, knockdown of GATA6 expression decreased apoptotic cells in the early bud stage. This study points to the importance of the GATA6 gene in heart and brain development.
This study was carried out to investigate the supplementary effects of giant embryonic rice, which has over two times of embryo size compared the normal rice, on lipid metabolism of insulin dependent diabetic rats. Streptozotocin induced diabetic rats were fed four kinds of experimental diets com starch diet as a control (C-D), a polished rice diet (R-D), a brown rice diet (BR-D) and a giant embryonic rice diet (GER-D) respectively, for 6 weeks. Diet intake body weight, organ weights and lipid levels of serum, liver and feces were measured. There was significant difference in diet intake and body weight among experimental groups. The concentrations of serum triglyceride and total serum cholesterol of BR-D and GER-D groups were lower than those of others. The total hepatic cholesterol level was the lowest in GER-D group. The contents of total lipid and total cholesterol excreted in feces of BR-D and GER-D groups were higher than those of C-D and R-D groups. These results suggested the giant embryonic rice diets can effectively reduce serum triglyceride level and total hepatic cholesterol level in insulin dependent diabetic rats, and hypolipidemic effects be due to increasing fecal lipid excretion.
