Electrum-sulfide minerals of the Namsan Au-Ag mine were deposited in two stages of quartz and calcite veins that fill fault planes in Mesozoic granitic rocks (230~155 Ma). The K/Ar radiometric dating of hydrothermal sericite indicates that mineralization is early Cretaceous age ($127{\pm}3.0Ma$). Mineralogic, fluid inclusion and sulfur isotopic data show that ore minerals were deposited at temperatures between $340^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$ from fluid with salinities of 3 to 6 equiv. wt % NaCl. Evidence of fluid boiling (and $CO_2$ effervescence) indicates a maximum pressures of 100 bars. The formation temperature and $fs_2$, of Au-mineralization from the Namsan mines are mainly $280{\sim}230^{\circ}C$ and $10^{-11}{\sim}10^{-13}$ atm, respectively. Au deposition was likely a result of boiling caused to chemical change (pH, $f_{O2}$, ${\Sigma}_{H_2S{\cdot}{\cdot}}$) of ore-fluids. Sulfur isotope composition of sulfide minerals (${\delta}^{34}S=5.1$ to 8.2‰) are consistent with ${\delta}^{34}S_{{\Sigma}{H2S}}$ value of +6 to +7‰, suggesting an igneous source of sulfur partially mixed with wall-rock sulfur.

Haenam pyrophyllite deposit occurred in the rhyolitic tuff of late Cretaceous age is located in the northern part of Haenam-gun, Jeonranam-do. The ore of the Haenam deposit is predominantly composed of pyrophyllite and illite accompanying such clay minerals as kaolinite, chlorite, and smectite. Pyrophyllite ore at the center of altered mass is often associated with kaolin minerals and high temperature minerals such as corundum, andalusite, and diaspore. On the basis of mineral assemblage the Haenam deposit can be devided into three alteration zones from the center to the margin of the deposit; the pyrophyllite zone, kaolinite zone, and illite zone. All alteration zones are associated with appreciable amounts of chalcedonic quartz. Those mineral assemblages indicate that hydrothermal solution which produced the Haenam deposit is strongly acidic solution with high silica and hydrogen activity and low $SO_4{^{2-}}$ activity. Discriminant analysis shows that $Na_2O$, $K_2O$, and $Al_2O$, of major elements are discriminant elements which classify alteration zones, while in case of trace elements Cr, Ni, and Sr turned out to be discriminant elements in this deposit. According to the mineral assemblage and illite geothermometry, pyrophyllite ore is considered to have been formed at about $240-290^{\circ}C$. K-Ar isotopic age for illite from this deposit indicates that it was formed at much the same age of later stage volcanics in the area, suggesting that the hydrothermal alteration of these deposits is associated with later volcanism of the area.

This is a study on the mineral compositions, SK numbers of refractoriness and the genesis of the clay mineral deposits in Cheonnam Province and Handong area. 1. Jindo kaolin deposits: Chief clay minerals of the deposits are kaolinite, quartz and alunite. The SK number of the ore is from $34^+$(the highest) to 27(the lowest). On the genesis of the deposits some geologists believe that the deposits were formed by the alteration of the siliceous tuff. But the deposits seems to be formed by the hydrothermal alteration of the rhyolite lava beds. This area is formed by alternative beds of tuff; and kaoline deposits. 2. Hadong area: Chief mineralogy of Hadong kaolin area is $10{\AA}$ halloysite and kaolinite. The SK number of some of the ore is up to $36^+$. The theoretic SK number of kaolinitic composition is 35. So one of the highest alumina minerals of gibbsite is formed in the ores of $36^+$ SK numbers. 3. Hampyong kaolin deposits: Most of kaolin has black color. The chief minerals are kaolinite, quartz and muscovite. Some of the kaoline contains rutile crystals. SK number ranges from 30 to 17. The kaolin deposit is formed by the transported sedimentation in lower part of the seashore. 4. Jangsan kaoline deposits: Chief minerals of the kaolin is kaolinite, quartz and muscovite. Some kaoline contains small crystals of pyrite. This area consists almost of the tuffs. Kaolin deposits also would be formed by the alteration of the tuffs. 5. Nohwado pyrophyllite deposits: Quartz and pyrophyllite are chief minerals. SK number of the ore ranges from 32 to 30. The pyrophyllite deposits would be formed by the hydrothermal alteration of the rhyolitic lava beds. This area consists of alterative beds of tuffs and rhyolitic lavas. 6. Songsuk pyrophyllite deposits: Chief minerals are quartz, kaolinite, pyrophyllite and iron oxides. In the pyrophyllite deposits egg-like inclusions of diaspore and kaolinite in composition. This area almost consists of tuffs. Several faults are developed and along the fault the tuff would begin to alter to pyrophyllite and some parts to diaspore and kaolinite nodules by the acts of hydrothermal solution.
The separation of rare earths minerals is very difficult because of their similar chemical properties. The rare earth minerals are used as the mixed rare earth minerals or the misch metal without separation to each element. However, the high purity rare earths are recently produced commercially to each element so they there are used as the materials for high tech. Based on the characterization results for the raw minerals, we have developed a combined process containing gravity seperation, magnetic seperation and flotation. The result obtained from this study is monazite concentration of TREO grade 69.11% and Recovery 56.02%.

The Dangdu Pb-Zn deposit is located at approximately 10 km south of Jecheon, Korea. Geology of Dangdu deposit area consists of Pre-cambrian metamorphic rocks, Ordovician sedimentary rocks, Jurassic and Cretaceous igneous rocks. The ore deposit is developed along the fracture trending $N20{\sim}40^{\circ}W$ in Ordovician limestone and is considered to be a skarn type ore deposit. The shape of ore bodies developed in the Dangdu ore deposit can be divided into lens-form(two ore bodies of -30 m level adit and one ore body of -63 m level adit) and pocket-form developed in -30 m level adit. Ore minerals observed in the ore deposits are magnetite, pyrrhotite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, cosalite, marcasite, hessite, native Bi and bismuthinite. Chemical composition of sphalerite ranges FeS 14.14~18.08 mole%, CdS 0.44~0.70 mole%, MnS 0.52~1.13, 1.53~2.09 mole%. Galena contains a small amount of silver with an average of 0.54 wt.%. An average composition of cosalite is Ag 2.43 wt.%, Bi 44.36 wt.%, Pb 35.05 wt.% which results the chemical formula of cosalite as $Pb_{1.7}Bi_{2.1}Ag_{0.2}S_5$. Skarn minerals consist of epidote, garnet, pyroxene, tremolite, quartz and calcite. The zoning pattern of the ore deposit can be subdivided into epidote-clinopyroxene zone, epidote-clinopyroxene-chlorite zone and epidote-garnet-clinopyroxene zone from the central part of the ore body towards the wall rocks. The chemical composition of garnet shows an increasing trend of grossular from epidote-clinopyroxene zone to epidote-garnet-clinopyroxene zone. Clinopyroxene occurs as a solid solution of diopside and hedenbergite, and the ratio of johannsenite increases from epidote-clinopyroxene zone to epidote-clinopyroxene-chlorite and epidote-garnet-clinopyroxene zones. The mineralization of the ore deposit is considered to be one stage event which can be separated into early skarn mineralization stage, middle ore mineralization stage and late low temperature mineralization stage. The temperature estimation from the low temperature mineralization range from $125{\sim}300^{\circ}C$ which is considered to be representing the temperature of late mineralization.
Crystallization behavior of platinum minerals within Pt-Sb-Bi bearing ore magmas and mineralogical properties of the existing minerals were investigated at 1,00$0^{\circ}C$ by synthetic experiment. High purity reagents were used as starting materials and silica tubings as containers. Reaction products were analysed by reflecting microscopy, X-ray diffraction, electron probe microanalysis, and micro-hardness test. Stable minerals at 1,00$0^{\circ}C$ are platinum, electron probe microanalysis, and micro-hardness test. Stable minerals at $1,000^{\circ}C$ are platinum, stump-flite (PtSb) and geversite (PtSb2). They are in equilibrium with liquid (ore magma). Platinum contains considerable amount of Sb of 7.5 at.%, whereas Bi only up to 0.9 at.%. Pure stumpflite is hexagonal with space group P63/mmc, and unit cell parameters are a=4.1318(6), c=5.483(1)$\AA$. VHN50=417(2)$\AA$. Geversite has cubic structure with space group Pa3. Cell parameters are a=6.4373(2)$\AA$ and Vicker hardness values VHN50=663.5 (566~766). Both stumpflite and geversite show solid solution and their end-members are Pt48.8Sb40.7-Bi10.5, and Pt33.7-Sb59.8Bi6.5, respectively. Although stumpflite (m.p. $1,043^{\circ}C$) and unnamed PtBi (m.p. 7$65^{\circ}C$) do not form a complete solid solution at $1,000^{\circ}C$, they are known, at $600^{\circ}C$, to form a continuous solid solution. Geversit (m.p. $1,226^{\circ}C$) also forms complete solid solution with insizwaite (m.p. $660^{\circ}C$). Unit cell dimensions of the minerals above increases with the amount of Bi substituting for Sb.
To reveal the origin of the Chuncheon nephrite deposit, radiogenic isotopes of Sr and Pb, stable isotopes of 0 and H, and rare earth elements concentrations were analyzed. Such geochemical data were integrated to track the stepwise changes during the various ore formation stages. All the samples from the nephrite deposit have significantly low 0 isotopic ratios compared with the marble from which they had been formed, which reflects the very important role of the crustal circulating water with low 6180 and 6D in every stage of ore formation. There were progressive decrease of 6180 and 6D during the genesis of Chuncheon nephrite deposit. Newly formed minerals during the ore formation reveal disequilibrium with existing minerals in the respect of 0 isotope, which suggests that the ore-forming fluid of circulating water origin was involved with significant water-rock ratios in every step of ore formation process. The ore samples have Sr and Pb isotopic ratios similar to the values of Kyeonggi gneiss complex within which the deposit is located, which also suggests the important role of crustal circulating water in the genesis of the deposit. In conclusion, all the geochemical data support that major portion of the ore-forming fluid of Chuncheon nephrite deposit was derived ultimately from the surface water of meteoric origin. The meteoric water supplied Sr and Pb through leaching the rocks surrounding the ore deposits.
Rare metal (Nb-Zr-REE) ore deposits are located in the Chungju area. Geotectonically, the rare metal ore deposits are situated in the transitional zone between Kyeonggi massif and Okcheon belt. The rare metal deposits are distributed in Kyemyeongsan Formation which consist of schist and alkaline igneous rocks. Alkali granite has suffered extensive post-magmatic metasomatism and hydrothermal processes. The ore contains mainly Ce-La, Ta-Nb, Y, Y-Nd, Nd-Th group minerals. More than 15 RE and REE minerals are found in the ore deposits. Allanite, one of the Ce-La rich REE minerals belonging to the epidote group, is the most common mineral in the studied area. The allanite- bearing rocks may be devided into seven types by features of occurrence and mineral associations; zircon type (ZT), allanite-vein type (AT), feldspar type (KT), fluorite type (FT), quartz-mica type (QT), iron-oxide type (MT), and amphibole type (HT). The allanite veins (AT) and zircon rich rocks (ZT) contain the highest total REE contents. Differences in REE abundance can be interpreted in terms of varying portions of magmatic hydrothermal fluid. Petrographical and chemical data are presented for allanites which were collected from different types. The allanites show wide variations in optical properties, due in part to differences in their chemical composition (depending on the types) and to the degree of crystallinity of the individual specimens. Allanite metamicts in biotite are generally surrounded by well developed pleochroic haloes. Usually, allanite is accompanied by zircon and other REE-bearing minerals. CaO and total REE contents $({\sum}RE_2O_3)$ range from 9.29 to 18.79% and 11.66 to 26.31%, respectively. Also, SiO, (28.87~32.61%), $Al_2O_3$ (8.30~16.88%), and $Fc_2O_3$ (16.74~24.38%) contents show varying contents from type to type. The ${\sum}RE_2O_3$ of allanite has positive relationships with $Fe_2O_3$ and negative relaton with CaO, $SiO_2$, and $Al_2O_3$ Backscattered electron microscope images (BEl) of allanite shows that the its mineral composition and texture is very complex. The allanite-bearing hosts show distinct light REE enrichment with strong negative Eu anomaly except for HI. The HT has an almost flat REE distribution pattern with a small negative Eu anomaly. The chemical variation of the allanites with occurrences and mineral association can be related to condition of temperature and oxidation states in precipitation environment.

This study investigated spectroscopic exploration of Myeonsan formation, the titanium(Ti) ore hostrock, in Joseon supergroup based on machine learning technique. The mineral composition, Ti concentration, spectral characteristics of Myeonsan and non-Myeonsan formation of Joseon supergroup were analyzed. The Myeonsan formation contains relatively larger quantity of opaque minerals along with quartz and clay minerals. The PXRF analysis revealed that the Ti concentration of Myeosan formation is at least 10 times larger than the other formations with bi-modal distribution. The bi-modal concentration is caused by high Ti concentrated sandy layer and relatively lower Ti concentrated muddy layer. The spectral characteristics of Myeonsan formation is manifested by Fe oxides at near infrared and clay minerals at shortwave infrared bands. The Ti exploration is expected to be more effective on detection of hostrock rather than Ti ore because ilmenite does not have characteristic spectral features. The random-forest machine learning classification detected the Myeonsan fomation at 85% accuracy with overall accuracy of 97%, where spectral features of iron oxides and clay minerals played an important role. It indicates that spectral analysis can detect the Ti host rock effectively, and can contribute for UAV based remote sensing for Ti exploration.
