Experimental Cats Model for Research of the Blood Ocular Barrier

  • Evaluate the triolein emulsion could disrupt the barriers and to suggest as an experimental model in blood-ocular barrier studies. Triolein emulsion was infused into the carotid artery in the experimental group ten cats. Normal saline was used in another the control group ten cats. Pre contrast and postcontrast T1-weighted MR images were obtained at 30 minutes and 3 hours after embolization. Signal intensities were evaluated in the anterior, posterior chamber and in the vitreus qualitatively and quantitatively. Postembolization 30 minutes MR images were not different from those of the control group. Postembolization 3 hour MR images demonstrated delayed contrast enhancement in the anterior chamber of the ipsilateral and contralateral eyeballs and in the posterior chamber of the ipsilateral eyeball. Delayed contrast enhancement of the posterior chamber of the ipsilateral eyeball was statistically significant (P<0.05). The present study demonstrated significant contrast enhancement in the posterior chamber with infusion of triolein emulsion and can be a model in blood-aqueous barrier studies.

Spontaneous Intraorbital Hemorrhage : A Case Report

  • Intraorbital hemorrhage is a rare clinical condition caused by orbital trauma, surgery around the orbit, intraorbital vascular abnormalities, and neoplasm. It was reported to occur spontaneously without any known causes and in association with orbital pseudotumor in a very few cases. A 59-year-old, female patient admitted with sudden onset of severe exophthalmos and pain on the left eye. Orbital CT and MR imaging suggested hemorrhage in the upper part of retrobulbar area of the left orbit. Cerebral angiography was taken to rule out any possible vascular abnormalities. On the left carotid cerebral angiography, the run-off of the distal ophthalmic artery was not seen and the engorgement of the supraophthalmic artery was noted. Systemic administration of corticosteroid did not improve the clinical status and craniectomy was done and retrobulbar hematoma was removed, and the clinical symptoms and signs were improved. Authors report a case of spontaneous intraorbital hemorrhage with the clinical features similar to those of orbital pseudotumor, requiring surgical decompression.

  • PROPELLER 확산강조영상기법이 금속에 의해 발생한 magnetic susceptibility artifact를 제거 할 수 있는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 뇌 MRI를 촬영한 환자 중에서 치아에 금속성 이물질을 가지고 있는 환자 20명을 대상으로 3.0T MR scanner를 이용하여 b value 0, 1000 s/mm2을 기준으로 에코 평면확산강조영상, PROPELLER 확산강조영상과 각각의 ADC map영상을 획득한 후 양쪽 측두엽, 뇌교, 안와등 네 부위에서 발생한 magnetic susceptibility artifact의 발생률을 비교 하였다.에코평면 확산강조영상 기법에서 금속물질이 있는 경우 magnetic susceptibility artifact가 발생되어 진단에 큰 제한점을 두었지만 PROPELLER 확산강조영상기법은 magnetic susceptibility artifact를 감소함으로써 임상적으로 정확한 진단에 도움이 될 것으로 생각된다.

  • 안와에 발생하는 전이암은 주로 안와 지방이나 뼈에 발생하며 한쪽에 국한되어 발생하고, 양쪽 외안근의 미만성비대 형태로 발생하는 경우는 매우 드물다. 저자들은 코에 생긴 횡문근육종 환자에서 치료 후 추적 관찰 중 발생한 안와의 전이암이 양쪽 외안근의 미만성 비대 형태로 발생하여 갑상선 안병증으로 오인되었던 1예를 보고하고 갑상선 안병증과 감별하는데 도움을 받을 수 있는 소견이 무엇인지에 대해 분석해 보고자 한다.
