  • Objectives : The objective of this study was to compare oral health behaviors and oral health indices between regular scaling group and irregular scaling group. Methods : This study was performed at M Dental Clinic in Busan on 352 dental patients treated between January 2014 and June 2015 using V6.0 software and medical interviews. The 352 patients were divided into 3 groups and oral health behavior (OHB) and oral health indices were compared. Results : The OHB scores significantly differed among Groups C and A. Group C had the lowest number of "Bad" scores for the Simplified Debris Index (S-DI), Simplified Calculus Index (S-CI), and Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (S-OHI). Groups B and A had the lowest number of "Excellent" scores. Group C had the lowest bleeding on probing (BOP), calculus rate (CR) and decayed teeth (DT). Furthermore, Group C had the highest number of missing teeth (MT) and filled teeth (FT). Conclusions : Patients who underwent regular scaling had the highest OHB and oral health index scores. This emphasizes the importance of regular scaling for prevention and early detection of oral disease.

  • This study analyzed and compared the oral health care knowledge, oral health behaviors and oral health status of elementary school students in schools with a dental clinic and those without. This study was carried out in November of 2012. The subjects were 188 elementary school students. Structured questionnaires were completed and the SPSS(Ver.17.0) Program was used for the collected data to perform frequency analysis, a t-test, and ANOVA. For oral health knowledge, the operating school dental clinic (OSD) group had a high score of 6.72 points, while the non-operating school dental clinic (NSD) group had 5.95 points. The results were statistically significant(p<0.01). For oral health behavior, the OSD group had a high score of 5.55 points, while the NSD group had 4.59 points, which was statistically significant(p<0.01). Students in schools with school dental clinics have much better knowledge and behavior about oral health than students without school dental clinics.

  • The present study surveyed 300 adults who completed orthodontic treatment to determine their oral health-related quality of life and changes in oral health behavior in orthodontic patients. The collected data is analyzed using the spss 22.0 program. Before orthodontic treatment, social factors (4.68) had the lowest associated quality of life score, and after orthodontic treatment, socially related quality of life showed the highest increase at 3.72 points. Changes in oral health behavior showed that many phosphorus scaling increased by 1.28 points after correction compared to before correction. As oral health quality of life and oral health behavior have changed through orthodontic treatment, dental professionals need to take appropriate management of each patient's individual quality through health education. Appropriate management needs to be developed.

  • This study was conducted on 350 students of health and medical department of universities in Busan from June 3, 2013 to June 21, 2013, and a total of 350 questionnaires were researched. Among them 337 responses were used after 13 unfaithful responses were excluded. The effects of oral health belief on use of dental service of students of health and medical department of universities were examined and analyzed to provide basic data which can be used to expand understanding about oral health belief, to promote changes in behaviors regarding oral health and to improve oral health of the public. Collected data was analyzed through SPSS (Statistical Packages for Social Science 15.0. SPSS Inc. USA). For verification of differences of oral health belief depending on general matters and oral health behavior, t-test and ANOVA analysis were conducted, and for examination of the effects of oral health belief on use of medical service, logistic regression and regression analysis were conducted. The study results suggest that those who had higher sensitivity among oral health belief variables had higher probability of needing dental treatment and seeing the dentist immediately. And those who showed higher sensitivity and importance had higher frequency of seeing the dentist for six months. Future studies need to be conducted on the methods to change oral health belief for sustainable and systematic oral health enhancement in consideration of the factors affecting oral health belief and oral health behavior of the students of dental hygiene department.

However, it was found that the times of brushing were less than three (p<0.05) and the time for brushing was two minutes (p<0.05), which negatively affects oral health behavior. The concern of oral health was high (p<0.001), whiledental hygiene products (p<0.05), interdental toothbrush (p<0.05) and mouth saliva (p<0.05) were found to have positive effects on oral health care. Conclusions:Based on the results above, it was found that the concern and the behavior of oral health increased depending on the heterosexual status. The reason for this is that the motivation for oral care is more likely to be induced to make oneself attractive by making a resignation. Therefore, in order to promote oral health care and oral health activities, it is necessary to precede the motivation.
