Various test specimens were prepared by austempering low alloyed Mo-Ni-Cu ductile iron blocks of high graphite nodule count at 270, 320 or $370^{\circ}C$ for 0.5, 1, 3 or 9hrs. Tensile test, CVN impact test and plane-strain fracture toughness test(compact tension specimen of 50mm W) were done for each heat treatment condition at room temperature. X-ray diffractometer and optical microscope were used to investigate the change of microstructure and relationships between microstructure and test results. The highest retained austenite volume percent at each austempering temperature was corresponded to the highest mechanical property. The highest elongation value of 17%, U.T.S. value of 1,600 MPa or $K_{IC}$ value of 90MPa${\surd}$m were reached at each optimum condition. The best heat treatment condition for fracture toughness were 3hrs' holding time combined with the austempering temperature of 270 and $320^{\circ}C$, and 1hr's of $370^{\circ}C$.
In this study, characteristics of TiAl alloy and SCM440 (Cr-Mo steel) have been investigated with the various joining condition by servo motor type friction welder. The experimental factors of friction welder used in this study are spindle revolution, friction speed, and distance, upset speed and distance, respectively. Servo motor type friction welder could be controlled by the level of oil pressure, and it could be performed by position control dependence of electrical energy. Mechanical properties and morphology of welded interface were characterized by various joining condition. This aroused due to the bond strength dependence on friction heat and size of the heat affected zone. Therefore, it is necessary to have enough friction heat and decreased heat affected zone for good friction welding between dissimilar metals. An optimum bond was obtained between TiAl alloy and SCM440 by controlling friction speed and distance. At the spindle revolution 4,000 rpm, friction speed 120 mm/min, friction distance 15 mm, the bond strength was found to be 312 MPa.
The objective of this research was to evaluate alternative treatments for the best extraction condition for collagen from chicken feet. Various properties such as chemical composition, amino acid, pH, swelling percentage, yield and pure collagen, collagen loss, color (Hunter L, a and b) and electrophoresis of collagen from chicken feet treated by 5% acids (acetic acid, citric acid. hydrochloric acid and lactic acid) and soaking times (12, 24, 36 and 48 h) were evaluated. The crude protein, fat, ash and moisture contents of chicken feet was 17.42, 12.04, 5.98 and 62.05%, respectively. Amino acid composition of collagen from chicken feet indicated that the protein of collagen was markedly hydrolized by the hydrochloric acid treatment. The result of electrophoresis also supported this phenomenon. Both the swelling percentage of lactic acid and citric acid treatments were significantly higher than that of acetic acid and HC1 treatment. The pH of the acid treatments ranged from 2.43-3.62. According to the result of yield, pure collagen and loss of collagen, the best condition of extracting collagen from chicken feet was soaked in 5% lactic acid for 36 h. However, a brighter yellow color of collagen from all treatments was observed with a longer soaking time.
The effects of modification processing on the refinement of primary Si and the wear behavior of hyper-eutectic Al-Si alloys have been mainly investigated. Refining effects of primary Si in Al-17%Si alloy was more efficient than that of B.390 alloy. Optimum condition of getting the finest primary Si microstructure was when AlCuP modifier is added into the melt at $750^{\circ}C$ and held it at $700^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. Wear loss in the specimens of as-cast condition decreases as the size of primary Si decreases, in the order of B.390 alloy, B.390 alloy with AlCuP addition, Al-17%Si alloy and Al-17%Si alloy with AlCuP addition. Wear loss in the aged condition of Al-17%Si alloy, B.390 alloy and B.390 alloy with AlCuP addition decreased due to the increase of compressive residual stress in the matrix by the aging treatment. While, wear loss increased in the aged specimens of Al-17%Si alloy with AlCuP addition and Hepworth addition in which compressive residual stress decreases by the aging treatment. Therefore, it is assumed that higher compressive residual stress in the matrix can reduce the wear loss in composite materials such as hyper-eutectic Al-Si alloys.
Among the Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies, the Binder-Jetting printing technology is a method of spraying an adhesive on the surface of powder and laminate layer by layer. Recently, this technique has become a major issue in the production of large casting products such as ship-building, custom vehicles and so on. In this study, we performed research to make actual mold castings and increase mechanical property by using special sand and water-based binders. For use as a mold, it has a strength of more than 3MPa and permeability. Various experiments were carried out to obtain suitable them. The major process parameters were binder jetting volume, binder types, layer thickness and heat treatment condition. As a result of this study, the binder drop quantity was measured to be about 60 pico-liter, layer thickness was 100㎛ and the heat treatment condition was measured about 1,000℃ and compressive strength were measured to be more than 5MPa. The optimum condition of this experiment was established through actual casting of aluminum. The equipment used in this study was a Freeforms T400 model (SFS Co., Ltd.), and the printing area of 420 * 300 * 250mm and resolution of 600dpi can be realized.
Re-hydration properties of heated and ground CaO-SiO2-H2O system were studied under hydrothermal condition in order to examine the possibility of recycling ALC waste as raw materials of ALC. Powder of calcium silicate hydrates and ALC waste without heat treatment did not show further hydration while those of heat-treated at proper temperature showed re-hydration properties under hydrothermal condition. The lath-like shape of initially synthesized tobermorite was gradually turned into small debris during heating and plate-like tobermorite was crystallized during re-hydration of the heated powders. Heated and ground ALC waste could be added to natural raw mix for ALC at the ammount up to 20% with increased compressive strength and up to 30% with slightly decreased compressive strength. The optimum heating temperature of ALC for recycling was about 50$0^{\circ}C$.
Drawing optical fibers in a graphite furnace is one of the most convenient and economical means of producing optical fiber. Since the flaw formation on optical fiber is mainly due to dust contaminations during drawing and surface corrosion by water vapor penetration through coating layer, the tensile strength of optical fiber drawn in a graphite furnace is greatly inflenced by the drawing conditions. The important factors found in this investigation were preform treatment (fire polishing), furnace interior environment (dust contamination, inert gas flows), primary coating condition (resin curing temperature, coating materials, method, thickness) and fiber pulling condition (furnace temperature, drawing speed, pulling tension). The tensile strength at optimum drawing conditions turned out to be 5 ~ 6 GPa.
This study aims to attain gray tone dyed goods by using tannin that is contained in green tea. Tannin is given general name of polyphenol, which has a characteristic that bonds with protein and it is used for food preservative that protects against bacteria, as well as its purpose of black tone dye for silk treatment that has been processed since its early ages. In particular, as tannin reacts with all kinds of metallic mordant and changes to various colors, when tannin acid is combined with iron, it becomes tannin steel and produces gray tone color. Tannin that is contained in green tea is condensed tannins and its structure does not hydrolyze, thus having flavan type structure. In order to find the suitable condition for processing tannin, UV-Vis part absorption spectrum of green tea tannin, dye ability based on temperature and time, reflection rate based on concentration, color changes based on acid treatment and alkali treatment, changes on surface based on concentration or metal mordant condition, and lightfastness were measured. Maximum absorption wavelength (${\lambda}_{max}$) of green tea tannin was at around 273nm, while strong absorption was also observed at below 350 nm. Dye ability of green tea tannin is done more easily on silk rather than cellulose fibers such as cotton, while the optimum condition for dyeing was observed to be at $60^{\circ}C$, for 20 minutes. As a result of acid treatment, the color of dye material consisted highly of gray tones and showed overall gray tone with the combined color of yellow and red after the alkali treatment. While it was observed that as dye concentration and metal mordant concentration increased, the color changed at counter-clockwise direction on the Y-scale of Munsell's scale of colors. Additionally, lightfastness was more on a normal fading.
The oxidation and recrystallization behaviors of Ni-base single crystal superalloy, CMSX-2 were investigated to determine the condition of the preparation for transient liquid phase (TLP) bonding operations. The faying surfaces of CMSX-2 were worked by the shot peening, fine cutting and mechanical polishing treatments and the degree of working of treated surfaces was evaluated by the hardness test and X-ray diffraction method CMSX-2 was heat-treated at 1,173∼1.589k for 3.6ks in vacuum of 4mPa. The mechanically polished surface was slightly oxidized after heat treatment even in the vacuum atmosphere of 4mPa. The thickness of an oxide film increased with increasing the heating temperature and the surface roughness of the faying surface. Recrystallization occurred at the surface after heat treatment at above 1,423K when the hardness was increased more than Hv600 by the shot peening treatment while the mechanically polished or fine cut surfaces didn't recrystallized. Based on these results, it was clearfied that the mechanically polishing with fine abrasive grit could be used for the preparation of faying surface of CMSX-2 before bonding operation.
