Effect of sowing date and planting distance on the growth and yield of sesame in the middle area of Korea.

  • Studies were conducted to select the optimum sowing date and planting density of sesame in the middle area of Korea. To select the optimum sowing date, sesame seeds sowed from 20 April to 7 July with 15-day intervals. To select the optimum planting density, sesame seeds investigated under four different planting distances ($30{\times}10,\;30{\times}15,\;30{\times}20$, and $30{\times}25cm$)respectively in the experimental field. As seeding date was delayed, days to emergence were shortened flowering and maturing date were delayed. Delayed sowing date resulted in decreased length, capsule setting stem length and number of capsules, and branchs per plant. Number of Capsules was high sowing date on 5 May in the range of 90~95ea/plant in sesame. Also yield of sesame seeds was most high on 5 May in the range of 142kg/10a by sowing date. Sowing date up to 5 May showed no effect on grain yield, but from 5 June to 5 July decreased 27%, 68% and 86%, respectively. For all planting distances, weight of 1,000 grain was not significantly different. However, number of branches and capsules tended to increase. Number of Capsules was high planting distance of $30{\times}20cm$ and $30{\times}25cm$ in the range of 146.7~165.7ea/plant in the Geonbaekkae. Areumkkae also showed the same tendency on planting distance of $30{\times}20cm$ and $30{\times}25cm$ in the range of 122.0~147.5ea/plant, respectively. Yield of Geonbaekkae and Areumkkae seeds was most high 116kg/10a, 117kg/10a, respectively on planting distance $30{\times}20cm$. Decreased in the planting distance of sesame has increased the incidence of disease and lodging. Based on the results, we suggest a planting distance of $30{\times}20cm$ maximal growth and yield of sesame in the middle area of Korea. Considering growth characteristics, sesame yield ability, the optimum sowing date was 5 May and optimum planting pattern was founded to be two rows planting in one ridge and planting densities was $30{\times}20cm$.

  • 현재 농가에서 소규모 재배가 이루어 지고 있는 둥굴레의 적정 재식 밀도를 구명하여 종근의 알맞는 소요량을 구명하고 생산력을 높임으로서 안정적인 공급을 기할 수 있도록 알맞은 재식거리를 구명하기 위하여 시험하여 얻은 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 휴간 30, 주간 10 cm(반당 33,000본)으로 재배함으로서 지상부 및 지하부 생육이 모두 주간거리 20, 30cm에 비하여 양호하였다. 2. 근경수량은 수확본수가 많고 본당 생중이 무거운 $30{\times}10\;cm$에서 건근경중 1,593 kg/10a로 가장 높았다.

Effect of different plant densities on growth and yield of sorghum(Sorghum bicolor L. Moench.)

  • Sorghum is a crop with a various plant height depending on the planting density. If the height exceeds 1.8m, which is the harvestable height of the combine, loss is caused by clogging of the installation, entrance of the threshing section and the threshing section. The purpose of this study is to set the planting distance and number of plants per hill suitable for combine harvesting as the plant length does not exceed 1.8m. The experimental variety was Nampungchal. The experiment design was a split-plot design with three replications. The treatments were as follow: Main-plot were 1 and 2 plants as number of plants per hill and sub-plots were $60{\times}20cm$ (practice), $70{\times}15$, 20, 25, 30 cm as planting distance. The amount of nitrogen, phosphate and potassium fertilization were 100, 70, $80kg\;ha^{-1}$. Data were collected: (1) grain yield: weight of grain in $kg\;ha^{-1}$, (2) 1000 grain weight: average weight of 1000 grain, (3) plant height: distance from soil to top of panicle, (4) ear length: distance from top of stem to top of ear in cm, (5) stem diameter: diameter of second internode, (6) tiller number per hill. Analyses of variance were performed using R version 3.3.1(https://www. r- project. org). The Duncan's multiple range test(DMR) was used to separate treatment means at P < 0.05. As number of plants per hill increased, plant height and yield increased and tiller number decreased. As planting distance increased, plant height and yield decreased and tiller number increased. At 1 plant per hill, the plant height did not exceed 1.8m at all planting distance. At 2 plants per hill, the plant height did not exceed 1.8m from the planting distance of $70{\times}25cm$. At 1 plant per hill, the tiller number increased to 0.23, 0.27, 0.60 and 0.70 as the planting distance increased to $70{\times}15$, 20, 25 and 30 cm, respectively. At 2 plants per hill, the tiller number increased to 0.03, 0.03, 0.14 and 0.40 as the planting distance increased to $70{\times}15$, 20, 25 and 30 cm, respectively. At 1 plant per hill, the yield decreased to 6030, 4280, 3400 and $3230kg\;ha^{-1}$ as the planting distance increased. At 2 plant per hill, the yield decreased to 7850, 5770, 5720 and $4960kg\;ha^{-1}$ as the planting distance increased. We recommend that the optimum number of plants per hill and planting distance is 2 and $70{\times}25cm$ suitable for combine harvesting.

단호박 입체재배시 재식거리가 품질 및 생산성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Planting Distance on Quality and Productivity in Staking Cultivation of Squash(Cucurbita maxima) under Rain-shielding Condition)

  • 수출용 단호박의 품질 및 생산성 향상을 위한 비가림 입체재배에서의 적정 재식거리를 구명코자 수행하였다. 재식거리는 120 cm 이랑에 2조식으로 주간거리 30 cm, 40 cm, 50 cm로 하여 하였다. 주지 적심전 생육은 주간거리가 좁았던 처리에서 만장과 생체중, 엽면적이 감소되었다. 수확시의 생육에서는 처리간 생체중의 경우 주간거리 50 cm로 넓었던 처리에서 증가하였다. 암꽃 개화일과, 암꽃 착생마디에서도 차이를 보이지 않았다. 과일 특성에서는 1번과의 과경과 2번과의 과중이 주간거리 50 cm에서 커지는 경향이었다. 평균 과중도 주간거리 30 cm의 1,184 g에 비하여 50 cm에서 1,386g으로 가장 무거웠다. 수확시의 당도에서는 주간 거리간에 차이를 보이지 않았다. 총 수량이 경우 재식주수가 많았던 30 cm 처리구에서 6,510 kg/10a로 가장 많았으나, 과중 130 kg 이상의 상품과의 비율은 40cm 와 50cm에서 98% 이상으로 비슷하였으나, 주간거리가 좁았던 40cm에서 5,012 kg/10a로 가장 많았다.

재식거리 및 파종기 이동에 따른 수수자원의 분얼발생 및 생장 특성 (Effect of Planting Distance and Seeding Date on the Tiller Occurrence, Growth Characteristics of Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) Resources)

  • 재식밀도 및 파종기 이동이 수수의 분얼발생 및 생육 수량에 미치는 영향을 조사하여 기계화 수확을 위한 분얼양상 및 생육특성에 대한 기초자료를 얻기 위하여 수행한 결과 재식밀도에 따른 분얼경수는 조간 60 cm보다 80 cm에서 많았으며, 주간거리가 30 cm로 늘어날수록 증가하였다. 유효경비율은 조간 60 cm가 80 cm보다 높았으며, 주간거리가 15 cm에서 30 cm로 늘어날수록 감소하여 재식밀도가 낮아질수록 분얼경수가 증가하였으며, 유효경비율은 감소하였다. 파종기 이동에 따른 수수 3품종 분얼경수는 5월 2일 파종기(1차)에서 가장 높았으며, 파종기가 늦어질수록 분얼경수가 감소하였으며, 유효경 비율은 5월 23일(2차) 파종기에서 가장 높았다. 품종별로는 황금찰이 분얼경수가 1.2개로 가장 많았으며, 목탁수수가 0.8개로 가장 적었다. 재식밀도에 따른 수수의 출수소요일과 성숙소요일은 유의한 차이가 없었으며, 밀식할수록 간장은 증가하였으나 수장, 수당립수, 천립중 모두 감소하였다. 수량은 재식밀도 $60{\times}20cm$에서 가장 높았다. 파종기가 늦어질수록 출수소요일, 성숙소요일, 간장 및 경직경은 감소하였으나 수장과 수당립수는 증가하였다. 주경의 천립중과 수당립수는 6월 13일(3차) 파종기에서 가장 높았으며, 수량은 5월 2일(1차) 파종기에서 가장 많았다.

  • 콩의 용도는 메주나 장류 또는 두부로 이용하는 장류콩, 나물로 이용하는 나물콩, 혼반용으로 이용할 수 있는 밥밑용으로 이용되어 왔으나, 최근에는 콩을 채소처럼 먹을 수 있는 풋콩에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 시험은 풋콩재배에 기초 자료를 제공하기 위하여 검정용 및 갈색콩 품종들의 풋콩재배시 가지풋콩의 상품성을 향상시키면서 풋콩수량을 증대시킬 수 있는 적정재식거리 구명을 위한 실험으로 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 재식거리는 파종으로부터 개화까지의 소요일수, 수확까지의 소요일수 및 도복에 영향을 주지 않았다. 2. 경장은 밀식할수록 증가한 반면 협수, 분지수, 개체당 협수, 분지당 협수, 경협중 및 2+3립협의 비율은 밀식할수록 감소하였다. 3. 풋콩의 크기는 재식밀도간 유의적인 차이는 없었으나, 풋콩의 수확지수는 밀식할수록 낮았다. 4. 밀식을 하면 풋콩의 수량은 증대하지만 경협중, 분지 당 협수 및 2+3립협의 풋콩수량을 고려한 가지풋콩으로의 상품성을 고려할 때 적정재식밀도는 선흑콩과 일품검정콩은 $60{\times}25\;cm$, 갈미콩은 $60{\times}35\;cm$이었다.

Analysis of the PTO Torque of a Transplanter by Planting Condition

  • Purpose: This study measured and analyzed the PTO (power take off) torque of a transplanter according to the planting conditions during field operation. Methods: A torque measurement system was constructed with torque sensors to measure the torque of a PTO shaft, a measurement device to acquire sensor signals, and a power controller to provide power for a laptop computer. The field operation was conducted at four planting distances (26, 35, 43, and 80 cm) and two planting depths using the transplanter on a field with similar soil conditions. One-way ANOVA with planting distance and Duncan's multiple range test at a significance level of 0.05 were used to analyze the PTO torque. The torque ratio was calculated based on the minimum torque using the average PTO torque measured under each planting condition. Results: The average torques on the PTO shaft for planting distances of 26, 35, 43, and 80 cm at a low planting depth were 11.05, 9.07, 7.04, and 3.75 Nm, respectively; the same for planting distances of 26, 35, 43, and 80 cm at a middle planting depth were 12.20, 9.86, 7.94, and 4.32 Nm, respectively. When the planting distance decreased by 43, 35, and 26 cm, the torque ratio at a low planting depth increased by 88, 142, and 195%, respectively. When the planting distance decreased by 43, 35, and 26 cm, the torque ratio at the middle planting depth increased by 84, 128, and 182%, respectively. Conclusions: PTO torque fluctuated by planting distance and depth. Moreover, the PTO torque increased for short planting distances. Therefore, farmers should determine the planting conditions of the transplanter by considering the load and durability of the machine. The results of this study provide useful information pertaining to the optimum PTO design of the transplanter considering the field load.

Effect of planting density and seeding date on the tiller occurrence, growth and yield of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the aspect of tiller occurrence, growth and yield of sorghum according to planting density and sowing date. The subject of this experiment is to supply basic data to inhibit non-productive tillers uneconomical and cumbersome for mechanical harvesting. Also another subject was to evaluate optimum planting density and sowing date in central district area. Total number of tillers was more in 80cm ridge than 60cm ridge and it was increased as the planting distance was wider from 15cm to 30cm on the each ridge. Ratio of effective tillers was higher in 60cm ridge than 80cm ridge and it was decreased as planting distance was wider from 15cm to 30cm. The lower the planting density, the more increased total number of tillers, whereas effective tillers were decreased as planting density was high. Average of total number of tillers of three varieties was higher in sowing date of 2 May (1st sowing date), whereas ratio of effective tillers was the highest in sowing date of 23 May (2nd sowing date). Hwanggeumchal showed the highest total number of tillers (1.2 tillers), while Moktaksusu had the lowest total number of tillers (0.8 tillers) among three varieties. There were no significant difference between planting density and days to heading and ripening date from seeding. Culm length increased as planting density was high, but ear length, grains per ear and 1000 grain weight were decreased on the other hand. The highest yield of sorghum per 10a was obtained from $60{\times}20cm$ planting density among 6 planting densities.

Development of a Hopper-Type Planting Device for a Walk-Behind Hand-Tractor-Powered Vegetable Transplanter

  • Purpose: In order to ensure that vegetable seedlings (with a soil block around their roots) are planted in an upright orientation after metering in a vegetable transplanter, they need to be dropped freely from a certain height. The walk-behind hand-tractor-powered machines do not have sufficient space to drop the seedlings from that height. In the present work, a hopper-type planting device was developed for the walk-behind hand-tractor-powered vegetable transplanter to ensure that the soil block seedlings are planted in an upright orientation. Methods: Various dimensionless terms were developed based on the dimensional analysis approach, and their effect on the planting of soil block seedlings in an upright orientation (planting efficiency) was studied. The optimum design dimensions of the hopper-type planting device were identified by the Taguchi method of optimization. Results: The ratio of the height of free fall to the sliding distance of the seedling on the surface of the hopper had the highest influence on planting efficiency. The planting efficiency was highest for plants with a height $15{\pm}2cm$. The plant handling Froude number, in interaction with the design of the hopper-type planting device, also significantly affected the planting efficiency. Of the hopper design factors, the length of the slide of the seedlings on the surface of the hopper was most important, and induced sufficient velocity and rotation to cause the seedling to fall in an upright orientation. An evaluation of the performance of the planting device under actual field conditions revealed that the planting efficiency of the developed planting device was more than 97.5%. Conclusions: As the seedlings were fed to the metering device manually, an increase in planting rate increased missed plantings. The planting device can be adopted for any vegetable transplanter in which the seedlings are allowed to drop freely from the metering device.

지역 및 재식거리가 곰취 '쌈마니' 품종의 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Planting Region and Distance on the Growth and Yield of Gomchwi 'Sammany' Variety)

  • 최근 육성된 곰취 신품종 '쌈마니'의 고랭지와 평난지 다수확 재배를 위한 적정 재식거리를 구명하고 자 본 연구를 수행하였다. 재배지역은 표고가 해발 750 m인 고랭지와 해발 20 m인 평난지에서 하였으며, 재식거리는 $20{\times}20$, $20{\times}30$, $30{\times}30$, $35{\times}40$, $40{\times}40cm$ 등 5처리를 하고 난괴법 3반복으로 정식하고 노지에서 35% 차광재배를 하였다. 1년차 '쌈마니' 품종의 생육은 평난지보다 고랭지에서 컸으나 엽수는 고랭지보다는 평난지가 많게 나타났고, 재식거리간에는 $40{\times}40cm$구가 가장 많았고 재식거리가 넓을수록 많은 경향이었다. 그러나 주당 엽중은 평난지보다 고랭지가 더 높게 나타났다. 10a당 엽수는 고랭지보다 평난지가 많았으며, 재식거리가 좁을수록 많은 경향을 보였고, 평난지 $20{\times}20cm$ 재식구에서 543.5천매로 가장 많았다. 수량은 평난지보다 고랭지가 약간 많은 편이었으며 $20{\times}20cm$ 재식구에서 2,983 kg/10a로 가장 많았다. 2년차에도 생육은 고랭지가 컸으며 엽수와 엽중에서도 고랭지가 높게 나타났으며 수량에 있어서도 같은 경향이었다. 재식거리간에는 2지역 모두 재식거리가 좁은 $20{\times}20cm$ 재식구에서 높았는데 평난지는 3,369 kg/10a, 고랭지는 7,257 kg/10a로 나타났다. 3년차의 생육은 고랭지가 평난지보다 약간 좋은 편이나 큰 차이를 보이지 않았으며 경직경은 유사하였다. 그러나 주당 엽수와 엽중에 있어서는 고랭지보다는 평난지에서 많았으며 재식거리간에는 재식거리가 넓을수록 많아지는 경향을 보였다. 그러나 10a당 엽수와 수량을 보면 역시 고랭지보다 평난지가 많았으며 재식거리간에는 재식거리가 좁을수록 수량성이 높아 평난지 $20{\times}20cm$ 재식구에서 6,051 kg/10a로 가장 높게 나타났다. 3년간의 수량 변화를 보면 평난지는 3년차까지 계속 높아지나 고랭지에서는 2년차가 가장 많고 3년차에는 약간 떨어지는 경향을 보였다. 재식거리 간에는 2지역 모두 재식거리가 좁을수록 수량이 많고 잎의 크기는 작아지는 경향이었다.
