  • Nuclear Environment Technology Institute (KHNP-NETEC) developed the conceptual design of the low and intermediate-level radioactive waste (LILW) repository. Among many engineering challenges, it is of particular importance to find out an optimum arrangement of near-surface disposal vaults in the repository area to minimize the radionuclide flux and concentration at the interface between the geo-sphere and bio-sphere. • The firms aim to acquire services and costs advantage from logistics outsourcing strategy. But it is very important to select optimum service provider. A checklist of the criteria for the evaluation of service providers follows : service quality, low cost, logistics information system, service network, financial stability, investments in plant and equipment, management attitude and lookout for the future strategic fit, cultural and psychological barriers etc. Also, a 8-step implement of logistics outsourcing strategy will be of help for maximizing benefits of logistics outsourcing. It follows : 1-step : logistics environment analysis, 2-step : check service provider availability, 3-step : logistics outsourcing determinant analysis, 4-step : select of optimum service provider, 5-step : contract with optimum service provider, 6-step : identify of remaining barriers, 7-step : performance of logistics outsourcing, 8-step : evaluation.

  • In signal processing, the zero-error probability (ZEP) criterion and related algorithm (MZEP) outperforms MSE-based algorithms and yields superior and stable convergence in impulsive noise environment. In this paper, the analysis of the relationship with MSE criterion proves that ZEP criterion has equivalent optimum solution of MSE criterion. Also this work reveals that the magnitude controlled input of MZEP algorithm plays the role in keeping the optimum solution undisturbed from impulsive noise.

  • This paper presents the artificial life algorithm which is remarkable in the area of engineering for optimum design. As artificial life organisms have a sensing system, they can find the resource which they want to find and metabolize it. And the characteristics of artificial life are emergence and dynamical interacting with environment. In other words, the micro interaction with each other in the artificial life's group results in emergent colonization in the whole system. In this paper, therefore, artificial life algorithm by using above characteristics is employed into functions optimization. The effectiveness of this proposed algorithm is verified through the numerical test of single and multi objective functions. The numerical tests also show that the proposed algorithm is superior to genetic algorithm and immune algorithm for the Multi-peak function. And artificial life algorithm is also applied to optimum design of high-speed, short journal bearings and verified through the numerical test.

  • Earth has been used as a building material not only our country but also many foreign countries in the world. In foreign countries, we can often find the high-storied earthen houses which have been maintained for over several hundred years, which means the fact that earth differs in durability according to the methods of utilizing earth. So, the purpose of this study is to progress the fundamental research for utilizing earth as a wall material. Also, the another purpose of this study is to utilize the optimum micro-filler effect which adjusts the grain size of earth and the lime composite which promotes chemical combining power, and so examine whether earth material ensures its high compressive strength. This study applied both of rammed earth method and pour earth method among earth architecture methods. This study investigated compressive strength, slump, and air content according to unit binder weight. On the basis of such experimental results, this study derived the following conclusions. 1) Optimum micro-filler mixtures reduce a lot of fine particles contained in earth. If optimum micro-filler mixtures are used as aggregates, they develop lower W/B and relatively higher strength than general earth. 2) In this study, which uses optimum micro-filler earth mixtures and lime composite, rammed earth method develops 29MPa and pour earth method develops 28MPa in 28 days compressive strength. Such strengths can be utilized in building walls.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest optimum micro-filler experiment method to select the optimal particle size of earth for using in earth construction works and test this suggestion through compressive strength measurement. According to the results of selecting the method to choose the optimum micro-filler mixing of earth and sand, three-stage filling(plate tamping) showed relatively high results and so was estimated to be the proper filling method. According to the results of optimum micro-filler experiment of earth and sand by the maximal sizes of sand, between 80% and 90% showed the highest result values. The larger the maximum size of sand was, the lower the addition ratio of sand was in optimum micro-filler mixing. According to the results of compressive strength experiment by the particle sizes of earth and sand, 90% in the addition ratio of sand showed the highest results, and so tended to be similar to the results of unit volume weight experiment.

  • The minimum error entropy (MEE) algorithm is known to be superior in impulsive noise environment. In this paper, the optimum solutions and properties of the MEE algorithm are studied in regard to the robustness against impulsive noise. From the analysis of the behavior of optimum weight and factors related with mitigation of influence from large errors, it is revealed that the magnitude controlled input entropy plays the main role of keeping optimum weight of MEE undisturbed from impulsive noise. In the simulation, the optimum weight of MEE is shown to be the same as that of MSE criterion.

  • Since early times, captain have been sailing to select the optimum route considering the weather, ship loading status condition and operational scheduling empirically. However, it is rare to find digitalized onboard route support system whereas weather facsimile or wave and swell chart are utilized for the officer, based on captain's experience. In this paper, optimal route safety assessment system which is composed of voyage efficiency and safety component is introduced. Optimum route minimizea ETA(estimated time of arrival) and fuel consumption that shipping company and captain are requiring to evaluate for efficient voyage considering speed loss and power increase based on wave added resistance of ship. In the view point of safety, seakeeping prediction is performed based on 3 dimensional panel method. Finally, It is assistance measure for ship's optimum navigation route safety planning & assessment.
