Silicon carbide (SiC) has been used for many engineering applications because of their high strength at high temperatures and high resistances to chemical degradation. SiC is very useful especially for a glass lens mold whose components demanded to the machining with good surface finish and low surface damage. The performance and reliability of optical components are strongly influenced by the surface damage of SiC during grinding process. Therefore, the severe process condition optimization shall be necessary for the highly qualified SiC glass lens mold. Usually the major form of damage in grinding of SiC is a crack occurs at surface and subsurface. The energy introduced in the layers close to the surface leads to the formation of these cracks. The experimental studies have been carried out to get optimum conditions for grinding of silicon carbide. To get the required qualified surface finish in grinding of SiC, the selection of type of the wheel is also important. Grinding processes of sintered SiC work-pieces is carried out with varying wheel type, depth of cut and feed using diamond wheel. The machining result of the surface roughness and the number of flaws, have been analyzed by use of surface profilers and SEM.
This paper develops and evaluates a mechanical machining process which involves drilling on PVS material. According to the material, two treatment experiments were conducted, one involving drilling in a wet condition or using a lubricant and one involving drilling in a dry condition with no lubricant. Drilling in a dry condition showed better performance in terms of the cutting time than in the wet condition. Otherwise, the wet condition has several advantages. The lubricant influenced the burr diameter size and minimized the temperature on the surface of the work piece. During the wet condition drilling process, a smaller burr diameter size was noted as compared to the dry condition. The temperature showed a linear correlation with the drill bit size, where a least-square analysis provided an $R^2$valuewhichexceeded 0.95. The wet condition required more cutting time than the dry condition. In this condition, the water provides a lubrication effect. A thin layer between the cutting edges and the surface of the work piece is formed. The chip formation is affected by the drilling depth. The color on the tips of the chips was darker than in the initial condition. No correlation between the drilling depth and the bore roughness was noted, but the variation of the cutting speed or the RPM influenced the roughness of the bore. The optimum cutting speed ranged from 40 RPM to 45 RPM in the condition which provided the finest roughness surface.
Determination of an optimal feed rate is valuable in the sense of the precision and efficient machining. In this regard, a new surface roughness model for the face milling operation that considered the radial and axal runouts of the inserts in the cutter body was developed. The validity of the model was proved through the cutting experiments, and the model is able to predict the real machined surface roughness exactly with the information of the insert runouts and the cutting conditions. From the estimated surface roughness value, the maximum feed rate that obtains a maximum naterial removal rate under the given surface roughness constraint can be selected by using a bisection method. Therefore, this mehod for optimizing the feed rate can be well applied to the using a bisection method. Therefore, this method for optimizing the feed rate can be well applied to the using selsction of the cutting condition during the NC data generation in CAM.
Wafer scale micro mirror array with high surface quality for small form factor (SFF) optical pick-up was fabricated by micro UV-molding. To replicate micro mirror array for SFF optical pick-up, a high- precision mold was fabricated using micro-machining technology. Wafer scale micro mirror array was UV-molded using the mold and then the process was optimized experimentally. The surface flatness and roughness of UV-molded micro mirror array were measured by white light scanning interferomety system and analyzed the transcribing characteristics. Finally, the measured flatness of UV-molded micro mirror away for SFF optical pick-up, which was fabricated in the optimum processing condition, was less than 70nm.

The optimum cutting condition of PMMA lens sample with ultra precision SPDT, the diamond tool nose radius, the cutting speed, the feed rate, the depth of cut, and cutting fluid type are found. The demanded surface roughness 10 nm Ra, aspherical form error $1.0\;\mu{m}$ P-V for aspherical lens of optical data storage device are satisfied.

In order to prevent the production defects the optimum design of product, jig and fixture putting in the field is very significant manufacturing method. Drilling Jig is the device according to industrial demand for multi manufacturing products on the growing at alarming rate. In the field of design and making for machine tool working, welding, assembling with jig and fixture for mass production is a specific division. They require analysis of many kinds of important factors, theory and practice of machine tool operating process and jig & fixture structure, machining condition for tool making, tool materials, heat treatment of jig & fixture components, know-how and so on. In this study we designed and constructed a drilling jig of mass production and performed tryout under the Auto CAD, Auto Lisp database, that we made by database, and window environment. Especially this study is reveals with the analysis of part drawing, jig planning, jig design etc, and then the result of drill jig's making try out.

Recently the use of ceramic materals has been greatly increased in the industries. But machining of the ceramics is quite unproductive because of their high stength, high hardness, and brittleness. The efficiency of the grinding operation of ceramics depends on the preparation of diamond grinding wheel, i.e.,truning and dressing. This paper describes some experimental results on the dressing conditions of diamond grinding wheel. The dressing performance is evaluated by the magnitude of normal grinding force. The better dressed wheels result in the lower normal grinding forces. The dressing performances of copper plate and aluminum oxide dressing stick are compared. The optimum dressing conditions including the grit size of dressing sticks, the depth of the dressing operation, and the dressing speed qre determined.
For the net shape manufacturing, grinding is a important process that influences directly the accuracy and the integrity of products. We studied and researched the grinding force, surface roughness, and grinding wheel durability, according to the change of a feed speed of the table and a depth of the cut step by step with experiment that it is used to WA wheel. Workpiece materials were used STDII. The purpose of this study proposes the basic data for design of the machine tool and for controlling the machining parameters to obtain optimum performance of plunge grinding system during operation.
