  • Nowadays software defect prediction (SDP) is most active research going on in software engineering. Early detection of defects lowers the cost of the software and also improves reliability. Machine learning techniques are widely used to create SDP models based on programming measures. The majority of defect prediction models in the literature have problems with class imbalance and high dimensionality. In this paper, we proposed Centroid and Nearest Neighbor based Class Imbalance Reduction (CNNCIR) technique that considers dataset distribution characteristics to generate symmetry between defective and non-defective records in imbalanced datasets. The proposed approach is compared with SMOTE (Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique). The high-dimensionality problem is addressed using Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) technique by choosing relevant features. We used nine different classifiers to analyze six open-source software defect datasets from the PROMISE repository and seven performance measures are used to evaluate them. The results of the proposed CNNCIR method with ACO based feature selection reveals that it outperforms SMOTE in the majority of cases.

  • This paper focuses on a mobile edge-computing-enabled heterogeneous network. A battery level-aware task-scheduling framework is proposed to improve the energy efficiency and prolong the operating hours of battery-powered mobile devices. The formulated optimization problem is a typical mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem. To solve this nondeterministic polynomial (NP)-hard problem, a decomposition-based task-scheduling algorithm is proposed. Using an alternating optimization technology, the original problem is divided into three subproblems. In the outer loop, task offloading decisions are yielded using a pruning search algorithm for the task offloading subproblem. In the inner loop, closed-form solutions for computational resource allocation subproblems are derived using the Lagrangian multiplier method. Then, it is proven that the transmitted power-allocation subproblem is a unimodal problem; this subproblem is solved using a gradient-based bisection search algorithm. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed framework achieves better energy efficiency than other frameworks. Additionally, the impact of the battery level-aware scheme on the operating hours of battery-powered mobile devices is also investigated.

  • Objective: • To detect black hole and warm hole attacks in wireless sensor networks. • To give a solution for energy depletion and security breach in wireless sensor networks. • To address the security problem using strategic decision support system. Methods: The proposed stackelberg game is used to make the spirited relations between multi leaders and multi followers. In this game, all cluster heads are acts as leaders, whereas agent nodes are acts as followers. The game is initially modeled as Quadratic Programming and also use backtracking search optimization algorithm for getting threshold value to determine the optimal strategies of both defender and attacker. Findings: To find optimal payoffs of multi leaders and multi followers are based on their utility functions. The attacks are easily detected based on some defined rules and optimum results of the game. Finally, the simulations are executed in matlab and the impacts of detection of black hole and warm hole attacks are also presented in this paper. Novelty: The novelty of this study is to considering the stackelberg game with backtracking search optimization algorithm (BSOA). BSOA is based on iterative process which tries to minimize the objective function. Thus we obtain the better optimization results than the earlier approaches.

  • One of the challenging tasks in Mobile Ad hoc Network is to discover precise optimal routing solution due to the infrastructure-less dynamic behavior of wireless mobile nodes. Ant Colony Optimization, a swarm Intelligence technique, inspired by the foraging behaviour of ants in colonies was used in the past research works to compute the optimal path. In this paper, we propose a Recurrent Ant Colony Optimization (RECACO) that executes the actual Ant Colony Optimization iteratively based on recurrent value in order to obtain an optimal path convergence. Each iteration involves three steps: Pheromone tracking, Pheromone renewal and Node selection based on the residual energy in the mobile nodes. The novelty of our approach is the inclusion of new pheromone updating strategy in both online step-by-step pheromone renewal mode and online delayed pheromone renewal mode with the use of newly proposed metric named ELD (Energy Load Delay) based on energy, Load balancing and end-to-end delay metrics to measure the performance. RECACO is implemented using network simulator NS2.34. The implementation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the existing algorithms like AODV, ACO, LBE-ARAMA in terms of Energy, Delay, Packet Delivery Ratio and Network life time.

  • Recently, some meta-heuristic algorithms, such as GA(Genetic Algorithm) and GP(Genetic Programming), have been used to optimize CNN(Convolutional Neural Network). The CNN, which is one of the deep learning models, has seen much success in a variety of computer vision tasks. However, designing CNN architectures still requires expert knowledge and a lot of trial and error. In this paper, the recent attempts to automatically construct CNN architectures are investigated and analyzed. First, two GA based methods are summarized. One is the optimization of CNN structures with the number and size of filters, connection between consecutive layers, and activation functions of each layer. The other is an new encoding method to represent complex convolutional layers in a fixed-length binary string, Second, CGP(Cartesian Genetic Programming) based method is surveyed for CNN structure optimization with highly functional modules, such as convolutional blocks and tensor concatenation, as the node functions in CGP. The comparison for three approaches is analysed and the outlook for the potential next steps is suggested.

  • Content distribution to a large number of concurrent clients stresses both server and network. While the server limitation can be circumvented by deploying server clusters, the network limitation is far less easy to cope with, due to the difficulty in measuring and balancing network load. In this paper, we use two useful network load metrics, the worst link stress (WLS) and the degree of interference (DOI), and formulate the problem as partitioning the clients into disjoint subsets subject to the server capacity constraint so that the WLS and the DOI are reduced for each session and also well balanced across the sessions. We present a network load-aware partition algorithm, which is practicable and effective in achieving the design goals. Through experiments on PlanetLab, we show that the proposed scheme has the remarkable advantages over existing schemes in reducing and balancing the network load. We expect the algorithm and performance metrics can be easily applied to various Internet applications, such as media streaming, multicast group member selection.

  • Detecting cyber-attacks using machine learning or deep learning is being studied and applied widely in network intrusion detection systems. We noticed that the application of deep learning algorithms yielded many good results. However, because each deep learning model has different architecture and characteristics with certain advantages and disadvantages, so those deep learning models are only suitable for specific datasets or features. In this paper, in order to optimize the process of detecting cyber-attacks, we propose the idea of building a new deep learning network model based on the association and combination of individual deep learning models. In particular, based on the architecture of 2 deep learning models: Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short Term Memory (LSTM), we combine them into a combined deep learning network for detecting cyber-attacks based on network traffic. The experimental results in Section IV.D have demonstrated that our proposal using the CNN-LSTM deep learning model for detecting cyber-attacks based on network traffic is completely correct because the results of this model are much better than some individual deep learning models on all measures.

  • A robust asset management methodology is essential for effective decision-making of maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of a bridge network. It can be achieved by a computer-based bridge management system (BMS). Successful BMS development requires a reliable bridge deterioration model, which is the most crucial component in a BMS, and an optimal management philosophy. The maintenance optimization methodology proposed in this paper is developed for a small bridge network with limited structural condition rating records. . The methodology is organized in three major components: (1) bridge health index (BHI); (2) maintenance and budget optimization; and (3) reliable Artificial Intelligence (AI) based bridge deterioration model. The outcomes of the paper will help to identify BMS implementation problems and to provide appropriate solutions for managing small bridge networks.

  • In this paper, we propose a design method for GBSB (generalized brain-state-in-a-box) based associative memories. Based on the theoretical investigation about the properties of GBSB, we parameterize the solution space utilizing the limited number of parameters sufficient to represent the solution space and appropriate to be searched. Next we formulate the problem of finding a GBSB that can store the given pattern as stable states in the form of constrained optimization problems. Finally, we transform the constrained optimization problem into a SDP(semidefinite program), which can be solved by recently developed interior point methods. The applicability of the proposed method is illustrated via design examples.

  • Energy consumption has become a main problem of sustainable development in communication networks and how to communicate with high energy efficiency is a significant topic that researchers and network operators commonly concern. In this paper, an energy-efficient multicast algorithm in multi-hop wireless networks is proposed aiming at new generation wireless communications. Traditional multi-hop wireless network design only considers either network efficiency or minimum energy consumption of networks, but rarely the maximum energy efficiency of networks. Different from previous methods, the paper targets maximizing energy efficiency of networks. In order to get optimal energy efficiency to build network multicast, our proposed method tries to maximize network throughput and minimize networks' energy consumption by exploiting network coding and sleeping scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better energy efficiency and performance improvements compared with existing methods.
