Scrubbers that treat hazardous materials at workplaces have high treatment efficiency; however, the design is complex, and pumps need to be operated 24 hours a day, which can be costly. Therefore, to minimize the operating costs, small businesses do not install scrubbers, or operate them while circulation pumps are suspended. Hence, this study investigated the application of low-cost, high-performance scrubbers that can be used economically in small businesses. Low-cost, high-efficiency scrubbers are applied to bubble columns to utilize devices for hazardous chemical absorption treatment purposes, and for the development of these scrubbers, absorption performance was reviewed and the optimal application method was studied under certain conditions. The changes in the absorption performance of hazardous gas were studied in certain environments by varying the physical conditions, and the optimal application methods were analyzed. The results showed that, while it was possible to treat some of the gas flowing into the low cost, high performance scrubber, the treatment capacity was reduced. Performance degradation was prevented by supplying an absorption liquid, and a certain level of absorption was maintained depending on the amount of circulation. Based on this, three types of site application methods of low cost, high performance scrubbers were presented. In addition, the appropriate timing of circulation and anti freezing measures were also discussed.
The optimum annealing conditions of corn starch slurry were studied for RS4 type resistant starch production by phosphorylated cross-linking. When a corn starch slurry was cross-linked by using phosphate salts (STMP/STPP mixture) in the presence of 0.9%, 1.2% and 1.5% NaOH/st.ds, a high concentration of NaOH resulted in a rapid increase of the RS contents at the early reaction stage. However, similar RS contents were obtained after 12 h of cross-linking regardless of NaOH concentrations. The annealing treatment was conducted under various conditions such as pH between 2-10, temperature $40-60^{\circ}C$, time 0-14 h followed by phosphorylated cross-linking. The lower slurry pH was for the annealing treatment, the higher RS contents were obtained after cross-linking. When the slurry annealed for various period of time and temperature, a maximal amount of RS was formed after 2 h of annealing at $50^{\circ}C$ of annealing temperature of the starch slurry (pH 2.0). Therefore, an optimal annealing conditions at pH 2.0 and $50^{\circ}C$ for 2 h were proposed under the cross-linking conditions of sodium sulfate 10%/st.ds, NaOH 1.2%/st.ds and 12 h of the reaction time. The RS contents were linearly increased with the increase of phosphate salt addition. The RS4 prepared under the optimal conditions contained RS 72.3% and its phosphorus content was 0.36%/st.ds, which was below the limit (0.4%/st.ds) of modified starch by Korea Food Additives Code.
To obtain the optimal condition of heat treatment of wear-resistant alloy, hardness and Charpy V-notch test have been performed with Co-based Stellite No.4, No.6 and Tribaloy 800 alloys, following by heat treatment at the various conditions. Heat treatment at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 1 hours caused the as-casted Tribaloy 800 with FCC crystal structure to transform to HCP structure and lamellar eutectic structure was disappeared, which did not influence on the hardness. Aging at $800^{\circ}C$ for 20 hours, following by $1250^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours heat treatment has enhanced hardness significantly, which is due to the precipitation of large amounts of Laves-phase. The hardness of Stellite alloys was increased by the aging at $800^{\circ}C$ to 5 hours, and was nearly constant by the aging over 5 hours. The toughness of Stellite alloys was a few influenced by the aging treatment.
Advanced oxidation of wastewater was studied with a purpose to remove TOC and color by the ozone-assisted Fenton reaction. The optimal conditions were determined by hydrogen peroxide and ozone concentrations. Experimental results indicate that the ozone treatment after Fentons process was found to provide very efficient removal efficiency in the process, avoiding the exclusive ozone treatment. The combined process of ozone in the Fenton oxidation respectively was increased removal efficiences of 10.7% in comparison with exclusive Fenton oxidation. Also, the treatments of ozone after Fenton's oxidation respectively had increased the removal efficiences of 16.%. As a result, the treatment of ozone after Fentons oxidation had the best removal efficiency of approximately 96%. Removal efficiency of color was significantly increased as mush as 26% by the advanced Fenton's oxidation in comparison with exclusive Fenton's oxidation. The removal efficiencies in the biological treatment using Bacillus subtilis after Fenton's oxidation and after Fenton's and ozone's oxidation were increased by 14% and 19% respectively. Although these combined Bacillus subtilis-assisted Fenton's oxidation was determined to be effective method to treat the dyeing wastewater in an economic point of view, the choice of wastewater treatment can be varied depending on water quality.

Concrete structures stand in poor surrounding than it has ever been met before, because they are installed in severe conditions such as chloride penetration. $CO_2$ gas, water and so on. Therefore, the countermeasure to efficiently protect from the deterioration of concrete structures should be urgently considered. From this point of view, this study was aimed to develop surface treatment systems for concrete structures, which cover physical properties, long term durability and economic consideration. Developing the optimal surface treatment materials, powder type polymer or liquid type polymer was added to inorganic base materials. Three surface treatment materials which had shown best results in primary tests were selected and durability tests were fulfilled. Consequently optimum surface treatment material was developed. The surface treatment materials, which were developed through this study, can efficiently extend the service life of concrete structures. As a result, the life cycle cost should be reduced and the waste of material resources would be cut down.
In an effort to develop novel mushroom-derived anti-obesity nutraceuticals, water and ethanol extracts containing the lipaseinhibitory compound from Phellinus linteus were prepared, and their nutritional components were determined. The optimal conditions for the extraction of P. linteus lipase inhibitor involved the treatment of the fruiting bodies with distilled water at $80^{\circ}C$ for 72 hr and 80% ethanol at $100^{\circ}C$ for 60 hr, respectively. The distilled water extract and ethanol extract contained 10.9% and 6.11% of crude protein, and 0.96% and 15.86% of crude fat, respectively. Additionally, the distilled water extract contained a large quantity of minerals, including 239.5 mg of K, 39.3 mg of Mg, and 39.3 mg of Na. The free amino acid content of the distilled water extracts was also higher than that of the ethanol extracts, and in particular, the distilled water extracts contained 5,139 mg of asparagine, 3,891 mg of tryptophan, 2,598 mg of alanine, and 2,066 mg of serine in 100 g of the distilled water extracts. 100 g of the distilled water and ethanol extracts were found to contain 12.31 g and 8.16 g of malic acid, respectively.
Dyes are released into the environment from industrial wasterwater. They are considered to be a pollution problem because of the wide spread into environment with a variety of colors. In order to biological treatment of industrial dyes waste water, biodegradation of reactive dyes such as Rifacion Red H-3EB, Rifazol Blue BT, Rifacion Yellow P-4G and Rifacion Brown RT were carried out decolorized by Aspergillus sojae B-10. Aspergillus sojae B-10 showed the almost completely biodegradation ability when it was cultivated in a 2.0% glucose, 0.06% sodium nitrite, 0.1% $KH_2PO_4$, 0.5% $MgSO_4\cdot 7H_2O$ containing each reactive dyes (500 ppm) under the optimal conditions of 32$\circ$C and pH 5. The mycelium of Aspergillus sojae B-10 was produced extracellular enzyme which has concerned responsible for dyes biodegradation. Under optimal conditions, reactive dyes started being decolorized within 24 hr and its was almost decolorized c ompletely after 5 days incubation. Rifazol blue RT was not completely decolorized until 5 days of cultivation. Rafacion Red BT, Rifasol blue BT and Rifacion yellow P-4G were completely decolorized after 5 days cultivation.
This study investigated an efficient method for the extraction of astaxanthin from the red yeast Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous. The extraction process comprised three steps: 1) cultivating the yeast; 2) treating the yeast culture suspension with microwaves to destroy the cell walls and microbodies; and 3) drying the yeast and extracting the astaxanthin pigment using ethanol, methanol, acetone, or a mixture of the three as the extraction solvent. Ultimately, various treatment tests were performed to determine the conditions for optimal pigment extraction, and the total carotenoid and astaxanthin contents were quantified. A frequency of 2,450 MHz, an output of 500 watts, and irradiation time of 60 s were the most optimum conditions for yeast cell wall destruction. Furthermore, optimal pigment extraction occurred when using a cell density of 10g/l at $30^{\circ}C$ over 24 h, with a 10% volume of ethanol.
Bacteriocin is ribosomally synthesized by bacteria and inhibits closely related species. In this study we aimed at isolating lactic acid bacteria producing bacteriocin presenting anti-staphylococcal activity. A Lactococcus lactis strain was isolated from kimchi for the purpose and identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. As preliminary tests, optimal culture conditions, stabilities against heat, solvents, and enzymes treatments, and type of action (bacteriostatic or bactericidal) of the bacteriocin were investigated. The optimal culture conditions for production of the bacteriocin were MRS broth medium and $25^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$ culture temperatures. The bacteriocin was acidic and the activity was abolished by a protease treatment. Its stability was maintained at $100^{\circ}C$ for 15 min and under treatments of various organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, acetone, acetonitrile, and chloroform. Finally, the bacteriocin showed bactericidal action against Staphylococcus aureus where 200 AU/mL of the bacteriocin decreased the viable cell count (CFU/mL) of S. aureus by 2.5 log scale, compared with a control (no bacteriocin added) after 4-h incubation.

Scholars have proposed wafer-level bonding and three-dimensional (3D) stacked integrated circuit (IC) and have investigated Cu-Cu bonding to overcome the limitation of Moore's law. However, information about quantitative Cu-Cu direct-bonding conditions, such as temperature, pressure, and interfacial adhesion energy, is scant. This study determines the optimal temperature and pressure for Cu-Cu bonding by varying the bonding temperature to 100, 150, 200, 250, and 350 ℃ and pressure to 2,303 and 3,087 N/cm2. Various conditions and methods for surface treatment were performed to prevent oxidation of the surface of the sample and remove organic compounds in Cu direct bonding as variables of temperature and pressure. EDX experiments were conducted to confirm chemical information on the bonding characteristics between the substrate and Cu to confirm the bonding mechanism between the substrate and Cu. In addition, after the combination with the change of temperature and pressure variables, UTM measurement was performed to investigate the bond force between the substrate and Cu, and it was confirmed that the bond force increased proportionally as the temperature and pressure increased.
