Performance Comparison of Different GPS L-Band Dual-Frequency Signal Processing Technologies

  • The Global Positioning System (GPS) provides more accurate positioning estimation performance by processing L1 and L2 signals simultaneously through dual frequency signal processing technology at the L-band rather than using only L1 signal. However, if anti-spoofing (AS) mode is run at the GPS, the precision (P) code in L2 signal is encrypted to Y code (or P(Y) code). Thus, dual frequency signal processing can be done only when the effect of P(Y) code is eliminated through the L2 signal processing technology. To do this, a codeless technique or semi-codeless technique that can acquire phase measurement information of L2 signal without information about W code should be employed. In this regard, this paper implements L2 signal processing technology where two typical codeless techniques and four typical semi-codeless techniques of previous studies are applied and compares their performances to discuss the optimal technique selection according to implementation environments and constraints.

  • This paper proposes a new haptic cue vehicle accelerator pedal device using magnetorheological (MR) brake. As a first step, an MR fluid-based haptic cue device is devised to be capable of rotary motion of accelerator pedal. Under consideration of spatial limitation, design parameters are optimally determined to maximize control torque using finite element method. The proposed haptic cue device is then manufactured and integrated with accelerator pedal. Its field-dependant torque is experimentally evaluated. Vehicle system emulating gear shifting and engine speed is constructed in virtual environment and communicated with the haptic cue device. Haptic cue algorithm using the feed-forward control algorithm is formulated to achieve optimal gear shifting in driving. Control performances are experimentally evaluated via feed-forward control strategy and presented in time domain.

  • The purpose of this study is an evaluation of end mills to develop appropriate tools for the high speed machining. First of all, several flat end mills which are produced by different makers are selected to analyze the performances of the tools. Experimental works are also executed to measure cutting force, tool wear and surface roughness for different cutting conditions. And then the results are compared and analyzed for developing optimal cutting tool in the high speed condition. Especially, analysis about tool wear is introduced in this research.

  • In this work, numerical experiments ave conducted to find out the optimal shape of flapping-airfoil using thickness variation airfoils. In the previous study of flapping-airfoil, we had found that the thrust efficiency of thicker airfoil is better than thinner one, but the latter has higher thrust coefficient. Therefore, we have combined thin(NACA0009) and thick(NACA0015)airfoil to overcome these demerits of each airfoil. Using this combined airfoil, we can achieve acceptable aerodynamic performances from thrust efficiency and coefficient points of view. In order to computational study, we have used parallel-implemented incompressible Wavier-Stokes solver. Computational results show how to design leading and trailing edge shapes.

Cost Evaluation of multirate LQD Control

  • In this paper,we consider a LQG problem subject to the stochastic multirate system. By restating the problem as a periodic LQG problem, it is pointed out that the lack of measurements and control inputs in some time instants makes the problem singular. A method of transforming the problem into a nonsingular one enables us to obtain the solution,however which gives a resulting value of the LQG cost and the setimation error dynamic different with those of the original system. As a consequence, we present a optimal value of the original cost and the estimation error covariance of the original system,which are expressed by periodic Lyapunov equation respectively. The evaluation resulte can be exploited in comparing the control system performances and specifying the sampling rates.

  • Localization is a very important technique for the mobile robot to navigate in outdoor environment. In this paper, the development of the sensor fusion algorithm for controlling mobile robots in outdoor environments is presented. The multi-sensorial dead-reckoning subsystem is established based on the optimal filtering by first fusing a heading angle reading data from a magnetic compass, a rate-gyro, and two encoders mounted on the robot wheels, thereby computing the dead-reckoned location. These data and the position data provided by a global sensing system are fused together by means of an extended Kalman filter. The proposed algorithm is proved by simulation studies of controlling a mobile robot controlled by a backstepping controller and a cascaded controller. Performances of each controller are compared.

Parametric Study on Water Mist Nozzles for Fire Suppression System Based on CFD Methods

  • Numerical simulation has been performed to investigate the mist flow characteristics through the fire suppression nozzles for the design purposes. The commercial softwares, FLUENT and the fire dynamic simulator, FDS with the proper modelings were chosen as the numerical tools. In order to find optimal conditions in sense of the main performances of nozzles, the spray characteristics were analyzed both inside and outside of the nozzles. Geometric factors of the injecting orifices, i.e., diameter and chamfered angle were chosen as the simulation parameters for design application. From the present numerical results, 1.0c nozzles, whose orifice-diameter was 1 mm, having the chamfered angles were shown as the best performance of the fire suppression.

  • This paper considers the simultaneously firing model for the artillery operations. The objective of this paper is to find the optimal fire sequence minimizing the final completion time of the firing missions of multiple artillery units for multiple targets. In the problem analysis, we derive several solution properties to reduce the solution space. Moreover, two lower bounds of objective are derived and tested along with the derived properties within a branch-and-bound scheme. Two efficient heuristic algorithms are also developed. The overall performances of the proposed branch-and-bound and heuristic algorithms are evaluated through various numerical experiments.

  • This paper proposes on the structure for reducing the circuit area and increasing the computation speed in implementing to hardware using the SEED algorithm of a 128-bit block cipher. SEED cipher can be implemented with S/W or H/W method. It should be important that we have minimize the area and computation time in H/W implementation. To increase the computation speed, we used the structure of the pipelined systolic array, and this structure is a simple thing without including any buffer at the input and output circuit. This circuit can record the encryption rate of 320 Mbps at 10 MHz clock. We have designed the circuit with the Verilog HDL coding showing the circuit performances in the figures and the table.

  • In this paper, the control of a membrane used in reverse osmosis desalination plant by using immune algorithm(IA) is addressed. The proposed algorithm IA of auto tuning method can find optimal gains and compared with conventional Ziegler-Nichols tuning method. The results of computer simulation represent that the proposed IA shows a good control performances better than Ziegler-Nichols tuning method.
