  • The wind power generation systems have a fluctuating or intermittent power output due to the variability of the wind speed. The amount of wind generation which can be connected to the grid without causing voltage stability problems is limited. In this study, the simulation of the wind power generation including energy storage system were performed to reduce the fluctuation of wind power output and to obtain the optimal operation planning of energy storage system.

  • This paper presents the optimization of CHP (Combined heat and power) plant under deregulated market. In this case, a boiler is added as different source for heat providing, that gives flexible and efficient operation for the plant. The purpose of optimization is to maximize the profit in period of 24 hours by making unit commitment decision, called "optimal policy". In this paper, Dynamic Programming method is introduced as the effective and efficient method. Finally, an example is solved to illustrate the optimal Policy of such a CHP and boiler.

  • The recent concerns over the threat of global climate change and the requirements of national reduction of $CO_2$ emission have led to the diversification of energy resources and a large scale integration of renewable resources. In these circumstances, the policy decision currently made by the government sector includes several programs to promote the equipment of large scale generating assets to use wind energy. However, the power systems and wind farms need such innovative operation scheme schemes that maintain an adequate level of system security for continuing growth of renewable resources. This paper presents a method for determining optimal operating points for wind farms by making use of a nonlinear interior point method.

  • The authors have been discussed the optimal voltage regulation method and on-line real time method using artificial neural networks in the distribution system interconnected with Distributed Generation and Storage(DSG) systems. However, these methods have difficulty in dealing with the random load variations and operation characteristics of a number of DSG systems. To overcome these problems, this paper shows the basic concepts of smart grid system which is considered as one of the power delivery system in the near future and presents an evaluation method on the impacts of customer voltages by the operation of smart grid system. The smart grid system can change the system configuration in a flexible manner by using the static switches and offer the different power qualities in power services through the power quality control centers.

  • We consider an economic approach for spectrum operations in mobile networks. We present the investment function of base stations according to the number of FAs assuming the linearity of cell splitting. We show that there is an economic amount of spectrum which corresponds to the optimal number of FAs that minimizes the investment. We analyze the impact of the cost structure and the traffic distribution in base stations on the economic amount of spectrum. This paper is applicable to an economic spectrum operation for mobile operators. In addition, the national regulatory authority can use the economic amount of spectrum as the minimal amount for spectrum allocation.

  • This paper presents a decision making model for the cruise ship management. A network based optimization model has been developed for a single cruise ship operation. It gives optimal itinerary patterns over the planning period for the cruise ship managers wanting to maximize profit from the cruise ship operation. A network solution method to find the optimal solution is also developed. This network model can be equivalently transformed into a linear programming model, which makes the implementation of the model quite practical however complicated the given set of possible itineraries may be. The ship scheduling network developed in this study can also be used as a general framework to describe all possible cruise ship itineraries the cruise ship manager can figure out.

  • Following the needs for increment of public transportation system electric railroad system should be expended. There are several solutions to expend. One of these solutions is to reduce the interval between two railroad vehicles. However, it cannot be reduced too much because reduction of interval means increment of loads and induces supplying voltage decrement. In this paper, voltage variation according to railroad intervals is simulated and optimal operation in railroad system is proposed.

  • For the stable operation of high speed air spindle, the low rotational inertia and high damping ratio of spindle shafts as well as high fundamental natural frequency are indispensable. Conventional steel spindles are net appropriate for very high speed operation because of their high rotational inertia and low damping ratio. In this study, a high speed spindle composed of carbon fiber epoxy composite shaft and steel flange was designed for maximum critical speed considering minimum static deflection and radial expansion due to bending load and centrifugal force during high speed relation. The stacking angle and the stacking thickness of the composite shaft and the adhesive bonding length of the 7teel flange were selected through vibrational analysis considering static and thermal loads due to temperature rise.

  • On face milling operation a newly optimal tool, which can minimize the resultant cutting forces resulted from the cutting force model, was designed and manufactrued. Cutting experiments using the new and conventional tools were carried out and the cutting forces resulted from those tools were analyzed in time and frequency domains. The performance of the optimized cutter was tested through the dynamic cutting forces resulted form the newly designed tool are much reduced in comparision with those from the conventional tool. By reducing the dynamic cutting force fluctuations, machine tool vibrations can be reduced, and stable cutting operation can be carried out.

  • A marine diesel engine should realize optimal efficiency operation while reducing NOx. Fuel injection systems by electronic control can become effective means for that. Although it would be able to get more precise engine control compared to the mechanical injection system, it needs some accurate and instant information in order to bring its ability into full play while sailing on the sea. Very important information of them is shaft torque and continuous combustion pressure of all cylinders. The system presented in this report can deliver those data.
