Optimal design of a piezoelectric smart structure is studied for cabin noise control. A cubic shaped acoustic cavity with a flat plate which covers one side is taken as the problem. The sensor signal is returned to the actuator through a negative gain. The acoustic cavity is modeled using the modal approach which represents the pressure fields in the cavity as a sum of mode shapes of the cavity with unknown coefficients. By using orthogonality of the mode shapes of the cavity, finite element equation for the structure with the influence of the acoustic cavity is derived. The objective function is the average pressure at a certain region, so-called silent zone, in the cavity and the design variables are the locations and sizes of the piezoelectirc actuator and sensor. The optimal design is performed at several frequencies and the results show a remarkable noise reduction. To see the robustness of the optimally designed result, the configuration is used to examine the noise reduction at different frequencies. By adjusting the gain at each frequencies, it is possible to reduce the noise in comparison with the result when the actuator is not activated.

Recently, a new type actuator using multi-pole magnet has been developed for high-density and high-speed disk drive, which can be achieved higher sensitivity than a conventional actuator for applying one-pole magnet. However, it is very difficult for the actuator of multi-pole magnet to meet simultaneously the optimal design condition for reducing rolling mode effect and improving driving sensitivity because the force center is different from the mass center In this paper, First We propose the new shape coil for tracking which can reverse moment additionally in tracking motion, Next we achieve the optimal design to reduce phase disturbance and peak gain at the rolling mode frequency. Finally, the validity of the proposed methods is proved from experimental results.

As the packing density of ICs in recent submicron IC design increases, interconnects gain importance. Because interconnects directly affect on two major components of circuit performance, power dissipation and operating speed, circuit engineers are concerned with the optimal design of interconnects and the aid tool to design them. When circuit models of interconnects are given (including geometry and material information), the analysis process for the given structure is not an easy task, but conversely, it is much more difficult to design an interconnect structure with given circuit characteristics. This paper focuses on the latter process that has not been foucsed on much till now due to the complexity of the problem, and prsents a design aid tool(DATOIS) to synthesize interconnects. this tool stroes the circuit performance parameters for normalized interconnect geometries, and has two oeprational modes:analysis mode and synthesis mode. In the analysis mode, circuit performance parameters are obtained by searching the internal database for a given geometry and interpolates results if necessary . In thesynthesis mode, when a given circuit performance parameter satisfies a set of geometry condition in the database, those geometry structures are printed out.
Sliding mode control (SMC) is a robust control method to control a robot arm with nonlinear properties. A high switching gain of SMC causes chattering problems, although the SMC allows the adequate control performance by giving high switching gain, without the exact robot model containing nonlinear and uncertainty terms. In order to solve this problem, SMC with sliding perturbation observer (SMCSPO) has been researched, where the method can reduce the chattering by compensating the perturbation, which is estimated by the observer, and then choosing a lower switching control gain of SMC. However, optimal gain tuning is necessary to get a better tracking performance and reducing a chattering. This paper proposes a method that the Q-learning automatically tunes the control gains of SMCSPO with an iterative operation. In this tuning method, the rewards of reinforcement learning (RL) are set minus tracking errors of states, and the action of RL is a change of control gain to maximize rewards whenever the iteration number of movements increases. The simple motion test for a 7-DOF robot arm was simulated in MATLAB program to prove this RL tuning algorithm. The simulation showed that this method can automatically tune the control gains for SMCSPO.
Torque control methods of wind turbine are mainly classified into two methods: torque-mode and speed-mode methods. The traditional torque-mode method, in which generator torque proportional to square of generator speed is determined, has been chosen in many wind turbines but its response is slower as they are larger in multi-MW size. Torque control methods based on both speed-mode and torque-mode can be used to make response of wind turbine faster. In this paper, two torque control methods based on the traditional torque-mode method are applied to a 2.75 MW wind turbine. It is shown through some simulation results for real turbulence wind speeds that torque control method based on torque-mode has the merit of reducing fluctuations of generated power than PI controller based on speed-mode.
The Stewart platform manipulator is a closed-kinematics chain robot manipulator that is capable of providing high structural rigidity and positional accuracy. However, this is a complex and nonlinear system, so the control performance of the system is not so good. In this paper, a new robust motion control algorithm is proposed. The algorithm uses partial state feedback for a class of nonlinear systems with modeling uncertainties and external disturbances. The major contribution is the design of a robust observer for the state and the perturbation of the Stewart platform, which is combined with a variable structure controller (VSC). The combination of controller and observer provides the robust routine called sliding mode control with sliding perturbation observe. (SMCSPO). The optimal gains of SMCSPO, which is determined by nominal eigenvalues, are easily obtained by genetic algorithm. The proposed fitness function that evaluates the gain optimization is to put sliding function. The control performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by the simulation and experiment to apply to the Stewart platform. The results showed high accuracy and good performance.
This paper proposes LQ optimal controller design method based on the modal decomposition. Here, the design problem of linear time-invariant systems is considered by using pencil model. The mathematical model based on matrix pencil is one of the most general representation of the system. By adding some conditions the model can be reduced to traditional system models. In pencil model, the state feedback is considered as an algebraic constraint between the state variable and the control input variable. The algebraic constraint on pencil model is called purely static mode, and is included in infinite mode. Therefore, the information of the constant gain controller is included in the purely static mode of the augmented system which consists of the plant and the control conditions. We pay attention to the coordinate transformation matrix, and LQ optimal controller is derived from the algebraic constraint of the internal variable. The proposed method is applied to the numerical examples, and the results are verified.

In cognitive radio networks (CRNs), hybrid overlay and underlay sharing transmission mode is an effective technique for improving the efficiency of radio spectrum. Unlike existing works in the literature, where only one secondary user (SU) uses overlay and underlay modes, the different transmission modes should be allocated to different SUs, according to their different quality of services (QoS), to achieve the maximal efficiency of radio spectrum. However, hybrid sharing mode allocation for heterogeneous services is still a challenge in CRNs. In this paper, we propose a new resource allocation method for hybrid sharing transmission mode of overlay and underlay (HySOU), to achieve more potential resources for SUs to access the spectrum without interfering with the primary users. We formulate the HySOU resource allocation as a mixed-integer programming problem to optimize the total system throughput, satisfying heterogeneous QoS. To decrease the algorithm complexity, we divide the problem into two sub-problems: subchannel allocation and power allocation. Cutset is used to achieve the optimal subchannel allocation, and the optimal power allocation is obtained by Lagrangian dual function decomposition and subgradient algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm further improves spectrum utilization with a simultaneous fairness guarantee, and the achieved HySOU diversity gain is a satisfactory improvement.

The fuel cell which converts directly chemical energy of fuel into electric energy has higher efficiency than the conventional power generation which involves several additional processes. Especially, polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) of which the electrolyte is a thin proton conductive polymer membrane is affordable for portable power applications and small-scale distributed power generation including household and small building. It is very important to not only increase the efficiency of FC itself but determine the optimal operation mode. The optimal operational planning of lkW household PEMFC system based on the daily electricity and heat demand patterns was performed. The estimated economic gain was up to 20% by adoption of PEMFC system.
